Page 1 Event in a tent scores again! “Maybe not a full house, but certainly a full tent!” said St John’s Lodge Charity Steward, Robin Tudor. “Once more it proved a hit with over 130 people turning up to this fifth annual charity cabaret evening and hog roast. The evening showcased young local talent. Top of the bill was circuit entertainer, Marshall King, who provided his inimitable brand of comedy and singing. “All profits are going to the 2018 Grand Charity Festival,” continued Robin. “May I add my thanks to Mandy and John Keedwell and the committee of 'The Little Vintage Show' for providing a free venue for this event, not to mention their hard work in preparing it for our use. Full praise must also go to our IPM, Martyn Slater; again determined that it would be a success. Martyn has been a major figure in orchestrating the substantial St John's contributions towards for the 2018 festival. In addition to the hog roast, ladies from the ‘We’ll Meet Again Vintage Tea Rooms’ once more provided an alternative beverage. “These ladies travel around vintage steam and country shows throughout the summer, selling tea and Camp coffee. They use China tea services and sell home-made cakes,” said Martyn Slater. “Full tent!”

Waypoints flashing past “A cheque will be presented at the next lodge meeting, plus £1000 from the recent successful race night. The lodge will have passed bronze, silver and gold Waypoints during the past eight months; a wonderful achievement,” concluded Robin. “The event started when we realised that as a lodge we fell short of our target for the PGM’s festival,” responded Martyn (right). “So a group of us got together and brainstormed some ideas. “John Keedwell was in the middle of organising The Little Vintage Show, which is held at his property every May. He suggested that we get the marquee there a day early so that we had a 'free' venue with a licenced bar, adding that as he was tied up with the running of the show that he could not be ‘hands on’, but would assist where possible. “So, for the past five years we have held 'Event in a Tent' which showcases local young talent whilst we enjoy 'field food'. I am pleased to say that it has always been successful and, although a lot of hard work, it brings its rewards.”
