To start the week off, both Cheyenne Fenton and Piper Robertson from Year 5 sang as part of the Riverina Central Choir for the opening. Students from Kindergarten and 3/4S also performed to a large crowd the following day. Our Open Day, last Thursday was a huge success with many parents turning up to visit classrooms and watch the students parade in their book character costumes. Many books were also sold at the annual Book Fair, helping raise money for additional library resources. The theme of Education Week was Celebrating Local Heroes and as part of this, each school received a Director of Schools Recognition Certificate and book voucher. At our school the prize was awarded to Owen Ranby from Year 5. Owen was chosen as our ‘Local Hero’ for helping out another student recently in a big way in a time of need. Congratulations Owen! Also, last week Miss Woodside, Mrs Standley and I attended the Leading Educators Around the Planet (LEAP) Conference in Sydney. The theme of the conference was around building teacher capacity and student outcomes through professional learning. Recognised keynote speakers, including Stephen Dinham, Tom Whittinham and Helen Timperley, presented models of the most up to date research on teacher professional learning and it was pleasing to see that our school is well on track with building a learning community at North Wagga Public School. Building professional learning and leadership capacity has been a major focus for the past eighteen months and we are seeing the results in classrooms. The School Captains and Vice Captains will join Mr Griffith in the procession. The parade will begin at 4.30pm in Morgan Street, proceed along Baylis Street and finish in the Civic Theatre Gardens.
