The Parent Association is working hard to support the needs of our students and families, and as part of that effort, the association voted to apply for 501(c)(3) status. Obtaining this status would allow the Parent Association to operate as a non-profit organization on a tax-exempt basis. The Parent Association is asking that each parent kindly contribute $10 to put towards the filing fee. Parents can turn in their contribution on Saturdays at the West Education Annex. A CAE committee member will be available to accept your contribution and provide you with a receipt. For more information regarding this effort, contact Mr. C. Maduka, Chair of the Communication, Advocacy, and Education Committee, at 301-773-2629 or [email protected]. Senior Timeline: What should seniors be doing in March?

• Watch the mail for college admissions decisions and financial aid award letters. Also, check your email account daily. Many colleges now communicate with applicants via email.

• Some colleges will ask for additional income documentation to process your financial aid award package. Be sure to respond to requests for additional information promptly.

• Many colleges hold open houses for admitted students in March and April. Consider attending an open house with your parents to help you make an informed final college decision.

• Worried about getting not getting into ANY college or university? Talk with your PCP counselor. There may be additional steps you can take to increase your chances of acceptance.

• Job? Internship? SIBS program? Consider your options for summer. Pre-College Programs’ SIBS get to take a 3-credit course for free at UMD, plus free room + board at UMD during the summer. SIBS applications will be available this month.

• Just three more months until graduation! Stay focused on your classes! Don’t let your grades drop!

Junior Timeline: What should juniors be doing in March?

• Register for the May or June SAT and/or April or June ACT before the deadline (fee waivers cannot be used for late registration).

• Consider attending the Spring College Tour sponsored by PCP. $50 = the opportunity to visit 4 colleges -- a great way to see what type of environments will work best for your college experience.

• Make a list of 8-10 colleges that offer majors of interest and are in desired locations. Not sure which colleges offer your major? Utilize the College MatchMaker feature on www.collegeboard.org to search by location, majors, cost, and more to find colleges that fit your interests and preferences.
