Bentley i-model Composition Server

• Introduced May of 2012

• Great uptake! – Over 7X Increase in Usage

• Fidelity and Performance – Huge performance gains over DS – Examples and reference implementations in

upcoming lecture

• Renamed – From: ProjectWise Dynamic Composition Server – To: Bentley i-model Composition Server

• Motivation – Common Service – More than PDF – Automating i-model publishing

What are the Details?

• PDF, i-model, and raster files are created from multiple input formats – DGN, DWG, PDF, Office, Raster, IPS

• Using predefined publishing standards – Presentation, Format, Filename, Destination

• Either On-Demand through ProjectWise Explorer

• Or, On-Schedule – Automatically create renditions of key

project information to stay current

• Through a server-side solution – Deploy once with no required desktop installation or configuration

iCS – What’s Needed for Deployment?

• ProjectWise V8i (SELECTseries 4) – Bentley i-model Composition Server for PDF

• ProjectWise InterPlot Organizer V8i (SELECTseries 4)

– Bentley i-model Composition Server for i-models

• Bentley i-model Composer V8i (SELECTseries 4)

Common Publishing issues at Burns & McDonell

1. Publishing is very time consuming

2. Varied skill\knowledge by project team members

3. Project partners do not always have access to same plotting technology

4. Client\ Project owner always want “last minute” up-to-date plan set.

iCS at Burns & McDonnell

Publishing is very time consuming

- On average plotting 500 sheets with standard plotting methods takes about ½ day to a day.

- With iCS we schedule projects to plot overnight and we are seeing on average about 2 hours for 500 sheets

- If you need a set during the business day you right click the ips file and hit submit. Then the Server processes the job leaving the client machine free to continue job chargeable duties

Varied skill\knowledge by project team members

- Publishing parameters (pen table, sheet size, dpi etc...)

- Plotting is difficult

With iCS it is as simple as right click publish. The user does not have to know anything about plotting, or even how to open the design tool.

Client\ Project owner always want “last minute” up-to-date plan set.

With current methods we have to stop production and take that ½ a day to publish an unplanned up to date set.

With iCS we always have an up-to-date set that was published overnight. Just grab it and go.

Configuring iCS

• iCS uses Rendition profiles

• Rendition Profiles are composed of 4 Components – Source File Presentation settings

– Output File Formats

– Output File Naming Conventions

– Output Destination Folders

• Rendition Profiles and Components are accessed and modified in ProjectWise Administrator.

Source File Presentation Settings

• Built using Interplot Settings files – I have had best luck leaving them binary from Interplot

In administrator you path to the set file in ProjectWise

• You can specify an alternate set file for DWG’s
