IMPROVING SAFETY AT WORK PLACE Good health and safety at work is not only important in human terms, but it is also one of the most effective ways to ensure that the enterprises are successful and sustainable. Simple cost benefit analysis will not be the appropriate way to look towards the issue of health and safety, as it is almost impossible to determine the cost of losses such as suffering, pain caused to the affected person and his family, loss in mobility, etc. Good health and safety of their employees is not only the moral obligation of the enterprises, but it comes along with the legal bindings as well. Hence, it is very important for any organization to follow the existing policies, to keep track of new updates in rules and regulations and to be innovative in finding out the ways to reduce risks. In order for a workplace to be a productive and welcoming environment, safety must be a priority. The overall plan and execution of safety measures ensure that the staff or workers will be well-prepared and have peace of mind on a daily basis. The best way to handle any bad situation is to properly evaluate the steps and think about scenarios ahead of time. In order to improve safety in a work environment, the company must analyze the location, availability, and knowledge of the workers in regard to safety equipment, evacuation plans, and emergency medical situations. Safety should be priority at the management level to become a priority for employees. Managers should identify what type of injuries happen more frequently and then find a way to deal with them. This might require a series of steps, such as posting warning signs, training employees, and making building or room modifications. Involving workers in prevention measures improves the chances of them staying healthy and safe. Safety training meetings should general safety programs, such as fire drills and first aid,

Effective designing and implementation of workplace safety programs can minimize the loss and damage caused to persons and property by eliminating the risk of industrial accidents. In addition to it, the employee safety programs can result in substantial cost savings, increased productivity and establishing harmonious relations with workers.

It is considered as one of the major steps to control occupational health hazards and treat them before they become worse. Regular medical check-ups of employees help detect the signs and symptoms of tension, stress, ulcers, depression and other diseases resulting from the exposure to harmful gases or other irritants. In order to reduce the risk of mental breakdowns because of tension, pressure and depression and mental illness, a mental health service is provided to the employees in different ways such as psychiatric counseling, co-operation and consultation with specialists, educating employees about the importance of mental health and establishment, development and maintenance of harmonious human relations at workplace.

We all must have heard of a simple phrase, “Health is Wealth.” This is true for individuals as well as organizations. Understanding, developing, implementing and evaluating workplace safety programs not only helps individuals in maintaining their health but also helps organizations in retaining their resources. With the implementation of initiatives suggested above we can achieve new heights in the record books of health and safety and can become a role model, which every other project in the country would like to follow.
