Dit jaar is drummer Sun-Mi Hong de Artist in Focus van North Sea Round Town. Speciaal voor het festival ontwikkelde Sun-Mi haar droomproject ‘Dance in Four Colours’ en geeft ze gedurende het hele festival in verschillende bezettingen concerten door de stad.

“Dance In Four Colours” is een eigentijds ensemble onder leiding van Sun-Mi Hong dat drums, elektronics, strijkers en dans combineert. Een geïmproviseerd samen-spel van Hong (North Sea Round Town, Artist in Focus 2021) en toetsenist Philipp Rüttgers vormt de basis van “Dance in Four Colours”. Deze fundering van slagwerk en keys is aangevuld met strijkers, blazers, synths en bas.

Hong’s droom om moderne jazz te combineren met (deels geïmproviseerde) dans komt uit in dit project, waarbij een samenwerking met danser en choreograaf Joseph Simon en Dansateliers centraal staat. De Four Colours worden gerepresenteerd door vier professionele dansers, met

elk een eigen taal, stijl en filosofie. Verwacht heden-daagse dansimprovisatie, breaking, hip-hop en house. Geïnspireerd door de variërende disciplines en energie van de dansers, hebben Hong en Rüttgers matchende stukken gecom-poneerd. “Dance In Four Colours” is een co-productie van North Sea Round Town, de Doelen en Dansateliers.

North Sea Round Town is hét jaarlijkse fringe festival van North Sea Jazz en vindt plaats op veel uiteenlopende locaties van 24 juni t/m 11 juli 2021. Met de beste jazz, blues, soul, funk, hip-hop, pop, improvisatie en cross-overs op avontuurlijke plekken in de stad én op de jazzpodia.
