Correct floor care helps your mafi naturalwoodfloors retain their beauty. That means customers who are satisfied in the long-term and will happily recommend mafi natural floors to others.

Attention! Every floor is unique! Differences in colour and texture are natural features of wood. Sample pieces, floors used for display purposes etc. can therefore never be 100 % identical to your wood floor.

Lye-treated: After the lye has been applied the individual planks have variations in colour due to the varying resin content of the wood. UV-rays and care with the right type of mafi Wood Floor Soap will ensure that the colour of the entire surface will regain a uniform appearance within approx. 6 months after installation.

Vulcano floor: The fine dark colour of Vulcano floors is achieved by special heat treatment without using any chemicals. So that the floor retains its natural appearance it must also be protected from strong UV light in order to avoid lightening. Vulcano floors should never be sanded with a single-disk machine and mesh.

After installation

Information about Vulcano floors:

Every naturalwoodfloor must be polished again after installation with mafi Wood Floor Oil or mafi Prof Oil (1 litre for approx. 40 - 50 m2 ). The oil can be finely applied using a spray and is then polished in immediately using a white pad. Finally polish dry with a sheepwool pad or white pad.

After re-polishing the floor should not be walked on for 24 hours. It can then be walked on carefully and should not be wiped for the next 10 - 14 days (to allow the oil to harden).

[ • ] do not use a green pad – scratch marks are noticeable!

[ • ] protect from exposure to strong and direct sunlight. Vulcano floors become lighter in colour when exposed to UV rays.

The floor should be cleaned once a week with mafi soap solution (see manufacturer’s instructions) during the first month to make it less sensitive to dirt. Further damp mopping as required – if the floor appears to be soiled or dry, otherwise simply vacuum or sweep.

NEVER wipe with clear water – this would remove protective oils!

Do not use floor cloths or mops made from micro-fibres! (The wood surface will become “rough”.)Make sure that the soap solution foams slightly during mopping, otherwise add more soap.

Wiping procedure:

We recommend working with 2 buckets:

1 bucket with soap solution (5 litre warm water and 1/8 litre soap) and

1 bucket with clear water that is used to rinse the soiled wiping mop; change water frequently!

You are pampering your wooden floor with every mafi soap treatment – and your floor will reward youwith its beauty!

During heating periods the floor should be wiped frequently with mafi soap solution (see label on canister), to prevent the floor from becoming dry! When underfloor heating is installed, make sure the floor does not become too wet as this can result in stress cracks.

On dark floors dust is more visible. We recommend to polish the floor with sheep wool. Thanks to the wool-grease the floor will achieve a nice brightness.

3-layer floors

Important! For cleaning and care use only mafi Wood Floor Soap, no other cleaning agent, or the surface could become washed out and sensitive to dirt.

Aftercare:In areas of heavy traffic we recommend that the floor is oiled once a year with mafi Prof Oil ormafi Wood Floor Oil (the floor must be well cleaned first).

mafi Balsam Oil Floor Care for freshening up the floor periodically (no special cleaning necessary).

Before use please read our instructions on the relevant containers.

To maintain the value of your oiled wood floor, a relative humidity of 40 – 50 % at a room tempera-ture of 21°C is essential!

Information and TipsCleaning & Care: Use only mafi Wood Floor Soap for cleaning and care! Never use any other cleaning agent as the floor’s surface can become washed out and sensitive to dirt! During the cold winter months the soap may thicken (due to the high oil content of pure, natural raw materials). It will become fluid again at room temperature. This causes no damage to the soap whatsoever!

NO micro-fibre! Please use cotton floor cloths or mops! Micro-fibres damage the wood’s surface slightly – the floor becomes “rough ”.

Underfloor heating The wood floor’s surface temperature should not exceed +27°C otherwise there is danger that cracks and gaps will form. If in doubt, please consult your heating engineer.

Hygrometer / Humidifier To maintain the value of your oiled wood floor, a relative humidity of 40 - 50 % with room temperature 21°C is required. During the winter months the air becomes less humid. Take precautions by using a humidifier!

Metal on wood Attach felt gliders to table and chair legs etc. to avoid scratches or oxidation of metal (in particular with oak the tannin in the wood can result in black stains = oxidation). Use white or beige felt, coloured felt rubs off. Do not place flower-pots directly on the floor as the moisture cannot dry and mould forms.

Stains? Stains caused by liquids (e.g. red wine) should be washed out several times using a sponge soaked in soap solution – do not scrub! The stains may disappear in time without treatment (the cleansing effect of wood). In the event of stubborn stains apply undiluted soap using an abrasive sponge (scotch bright) and warm water. Apply slight pressure to the actual stain, working for a short time in the direction of the wood grain. This treatment may result in a light spot which will, however, blend in again after exposure to sunlight and treatment with soap. The light spot can also be polished with oil.

Air humidificationin centrally heated rooms

Particularly in centrally heated rooms the air begins to resemble a real ‘desert climate’ in the winter months. It is not generally known that when the outside temperatures are low, ventilation inevitably leads to a reduction of the relative humidity in heated rooms.

There is often a relative humidity of only 30 % with a room temperature of 20°C. This drastically reduces the moisture content of the skin and the respiratory tract and may even result in allergies.

Lack of humidity puts a strain on the breathable wood floor and this can result in shrinkage and excessive formation of splits.

TIP: An excellent precaution is adequate humidity! This can be achieved by a sufficient number of humidifiers hung on the radiators. Even a corresponding number of plants in the room improve the humidity. Those who like a little more luxury can stand an electric humidifier in the room.

To maintain the value of your oiled wood floor, a relative humidity of 40 - 50 % with a room temperature of 21°C is required.

Larch – Wood Lye transparent + Oil natural Wood darkens (antique) / more vivid appearance, differences in colour.

Spruce / Fir / Pine – does not achieve shades of brown, only antique character (yellowish). Depending on the effect, Oil white or Oil natural can then be used.

ATTENTION: it is essential to test before treating the actual surface.

Low-viscosity oil for commercial use with high content of solid substances and good penetration properties for quality treatment of wood flooring, wooden staircases, solid wood furniture etc. for indoor use. mafi Prof Oil is on the basis soy oil, dry substances that are free from lead and zinc – oxidative drying. Aromat-free iso-paraffins with a mild odour are used for dilution.

Free from harmful substances and cleavage products. Free from biocides, formaldehyde and terpentine. Contains no citrus terpene or similar sub-stances. The wood can still breathe naturally, has antistatic properties, the wood’s surface is more robust.

Prof Oil natural

Instructions for use:[ 1 ] After fine-sanding (grit 150 - 220, depending on type of wood and the machine) apply mafi Prof Oil natural thinly

using a paintbrush or oil roller – recommended temperature for floor, room and/or product 18 - 25°C.

[ 2 ] During working time (max. 1 hour for approx. 20 - 25 m2) massage the oil into the wood with the single-disk machine, using GREEN sanding fleece. Do not use green sanding fleece on planks as scratch marks can be visible. Remove any excess oil from the wood surface immediately. Wipe around edges by hand.

[ 3 ] Finally polish the oiled wood surface dry again using white polishing fleece..

TIP: If the oil thickens while you are working and optimum polishing is no longer possible, immediately apply oil again thinly, massage in and polish dry. Working time with the oil is shorter at high temperatures or when exposed to direct sunlight. Be sure to work on only a small area at a time otherwise a regular surface appearance cannot be achieved. It is also essential to provide shade and good ventilation to avoid moisture from the windows running onto the freshly oiled floor.

[ 4 ] For badly worn floors (in commercial use etc.) re-oiling should be carried out again after a period of approx. 24 hours.

ATTENTION: apply oil very thinly, polish in immediately using white polishing fleece and polish dry! No excess oil should remain on the wood surface!

TIP: Empty oil into a spray, spray very finely and polish dry with sheepwool pad (this applies also for treatment to

mafi floors which were supplied oiled – first treatment after installation).

[ 5 ] After allowing to dry for 24 hours the floor can be walked on carefully. In case of heavier use, protective covering is necessary (final hardening approx. 10 - 14 days). Sweep the floor after installation, do not wipe with water. Then apply oil thinly, massage in using cloth or polishing machine using only as much oil as can be polished in within one hour. No excess oil should be allowed to remain on the surface!

The correct method: Shake oil thoroughly! We recommend a temperature of 18 - 25°C for floor, room and/or product.


By hand: always begin at the end of the room and work towards the door: empty a small amount of oil on the floor, massage in with a cloth lengthwise along the plank (approx. 3 – 5 planks wide) and then immediately polish dry. No excess oil should be allowed to remain on the surface! Oil that has not been polished in remains sticky!

With single-disk machine: empty a small amount of oil on the floor, then polish in using white polishing fleece; wipe room corners with polishing cloth; then polish the floor dry again using white polishing fleece or sheepwool pad, working from the end of the room towards the door. Instructions for use:

Shake Wood Floor Soap well before use.

Mix 1/8 litre (125 ml) soap with 5 litre warm water.

Immerse mop into soap solution, wring out lightly, wipe along the length of the floor with the damp mop (do not use micro-fibre floor cloth or mop – the floor can become rough). Do not apply too much water to hardwood flooring!

TIP: The soap solution should foam slightly on the floor during mopping, otherwise more soap must be added!

Then immerse the mop into the soap solution once more, wring out tightly and wipe the floor again so that no excess water is left on the floor – any remaining moisture will dry automatically.Do not wipe again using clear water as this removes protective oils.

IMPORTANT: Use Wood Floor Soap for every damp mopping! Once a week in the first month after installation, later as required. (If the floor is soiled or looks dry, increase the amount of soap if necessary).

To maintain the value of your oiled wooden flooring an ambient humidity of 40 – 50 % and room temperature of 21°C are required!

For large soiled areas we recommend mafi Super Cleaner!

SAFETY REGULATION: Keep out of reach of children! No labelling requirement.

mafi Wood Floor Soap – suitable for cleaning and care of oiled wooden flooring, wooden staircases, solid wood furniture etc., for indoor use.

Contents: potassium soap from vegetable oils (10 - 20 %), tri-sodium salt of citric acid (tri-sodium citrate), water-based, contents from self-renewable natural materials.

Shake Wood Floor Soap well before use.

Mix 1/8 litre (125 ml) soap with 5 litre warm water.

Immerse mop into soap solution, wring out lightly, wipe along the length of the floor with the damp mop (do not use micro-fibre floor cloth or mop – the floor can become rough). Do not apply too much water to hardwood flooring!

TIP: The soap solution should foam slightly on the floor during mopping, otherwise more soap must be added!

Then immerse the mop into the soap solution once more, wring out tightly and wipe the floor again so that no excess water is left on the floor – any remaining moisture will dry automatically.Do not wipe again using clear water as this removes protective oils.

IMPORTANT: Use Wood Floor Soap for every damp mopping! Once a week in the first month after instal-lation, later as required. (If the floor is soiled or looks dry, increase the amount of soap if necessary).

To maintain the value of your oiled wooden flooring an ambient humidity of 40 – 50 % and room temperature of 21°C are required!

For large soiled areas we recommend mafi Super Cleaner!

Wood Floor Soap white


mafi Wood Floor Soap – suitable for cleaning and care of oiled wooden flooring, wooden staircases, solid wood furniture etc., for indoor use.

Contents: potassium soap from vegetable oils (10 - 20 %), tri-sodium salt of citric acid (tri-sodium citrate).Titanium dioxide for white pigmentation, water-based, contents from self-renewable natural materials.

Attention: soap solidifies at low temperature; it becomes fluid again at room temperature (21°C); this does not harm the soap!

Instructions for use:The wood surface should be clean therefore please vacuum. Soiled surfaces should first be cleaned with mafi Wood Floor Soap solution before applying. When the floor has been cleaned, allow to dry (approx. 4 hours, depending on room temperature, humidity and ventilation).

mafi Balsam Oil Floor Care can be polished in by hand or using a single-disk machine with white polishing fleece / sheepwool pad.

Spray Balsam Oil Floor Care thinly and evenly on small areas a little at a time, massage in in the direction of the plank using a cotton cloth; soak up surplus oil with a dry cloth / wipe dry.

After approx. 30 min. polish the entire surface using a mafi sheepwool pad; this gives a satin sheen.

If differences in colour have occurred due to uneven application or variations in the wood’s absorbency, the Balsam Oil Floor Care can be applied a second time after approx. one hour.

The floor can be walked on carefully after approx. 2 hours (depending on room temperature, humidity and ventilation). Allow approx. 12 hours for thorough drying.

Further care with mafi Wood Floor Soap can be carried out after 4 - 5 days.

Coverage:1 litre for approx. 15 – 20 m2, depending on the absorption rate.

Rinse spray after use! Cloths are NOT self-inflammable!

Balsam Oil Floor Care naturalColour: whitish emulsion

Solvent-free floor care oil, emulsified in water and based on self-renewable, natural materials (fatty acids, soy lecithin), for indoor use, to freshen up and periodically clean mafi oiled wooden floors, wooden staircases etc.

Free from harmful substances and cleavage products. Free from biocide and formaldehyde. The wood can still breathe naturally, has antistatic properties and the wood’s surface is more robust.

[ 1 ] Mix approx. 1/2 litre Super Cleaner with 10 litre warm water.

[ 2 ] Apply wet using mop (or similar), leave to soak in for a short time and then treat the soiled surface using green sanding fleece (by hand or machine). Do not use a green pad for Vulcano floors as scratch marks can become visible.

IMPORTANT: Always treat only small areas, max. 10 - 15 m2, at a time. Remove the solution containing the dirt immediately with clear water (always work with two buckets!).

[ 3 ] Repeat this procedure if necessary.

[ 4 ] Wipe again with clear water; no Super Cleaner solution should be left on the wood surface.

[ 5 ] After the wood surface has been allowed to dry out completely, re-oiling must be carried out using mafi Wood Floor Oil or mafi Prof Oil.

Coverage: approx. 20 – 50 m2 (depending on soiling)

Use:

For badly soiled areas on oiled wood surfaces.

Contents: Non-ionic tenside (5 - 15 %), tri-sodium salt of citric acid (trisodium citrate), urea.
