International Forum on “Translation, Localization, Interpretation and Sign Language Strategies
In ASEAN Community”
1. Regional Balance Asia with largest area and population
(7,139,445 sq miles with 60% of world population) and most varied languages (2,322) should be given more attention.
2. Global Market Share - Asia shares only 12% of the world
translation market revenue while Europe leads the role with 49%, and the U.S 35%.
The world top three LSP’s: two are in Europe and 1 in the U.S. (2012).
New Thinking
3. Outsourced language services and technology value US$33.523 billion in 2012. 90% of companies outsource some or all of their translation and localization work.
4. Government economists expect job growth for translators and interpreters in the U.S. to be much faster than the average for all careers through 2018 (62,200) with the increase of 22% from 2008 (50,900)
5. It would take 83 languages to reach 80 percent of all the people in the world.
