the first time and documents what touches their hearts. This is the IN COMMON Children’s

day of school. These are the milestones of childhood and parenting,

regardless of where they call home. This is the IN COMMON Milestones

series, a collection of celebratory images taken on almost every

continent that revel in our world’s shared humanity.

photos. But suppose you want more? Suppose you want the photos you use to reflect your

socially responsible reputation? Suppose you want your use of the photos to make a tangible

difference in the world? Then you want IN COMMON’s double exposure.

Who is behind in common?

IN COMMON is a creation of the Milestones Project, a nonprofit producer of

photographic images that celebrate the universal milestones of childhood

in order to affirm our common humanity. Exhibitions of Milestones Project

photos have been seen by over 200 million people worldwide. The

Milestones Project Book received the Childrens Book Council’s Notable

Book Award in 2005. In 2003 the Milestones Project was recognized by

the United Nations with its prestigious Peace and Tolerance Award.

Founders of the Milestones Project are Dr. Richard and Michele Steckel,

who in 1998 committed their lives to highlighting the commonalities

between people as a means of reducing ethnic, racial, and religious strife.

In the decade and a half since, the Steckels have traveled the world, photographing the

milestones of childhood across religious, ethnic and cultural borders, and turning their tens

2. The fee helps those in need. Each time you

license an IN COMMON image, an unrestricted

cash donation equal to 5% of the licensing fee

will be made to a nonprofit organization of your

choice. Local soup kitchen? International Red

Cross? You choose. Direct the donation where you

want it to go to extend your philanthropic and/

or communication investments. Your nonprofit

recipient will also receive a 20” x 30” photographic

print from the Milestones Project collection.

Purpose Prize Fellows, an award that honors individuals in the second half of life who

are tackling America’s most urgent issues. In 2008 they received the Dr. Martin Luther

King, Jr. Distinguished Service Award as well as the National Education Association’s

Human & Civil Rights Award. Their work has been featured in Time magazine.

Licensing fees from IN COMMON support the award winning work of the nonprofit

Milestones Project. Through public exhibitions, books, classroom materials, and

projects such as Precious!, which provides family portraits to low-income families,

the Milestones Project uses the power of photography to encourage mutual respect

and understanding.
