T he annual ‘Seú’ Harvest Parade celebrates the end of a good harvest period. Regardless of

the age, local citizens walk down the streets dressed in traditional clothing and dancing to the ‘beats’ of traditional tunes. Every group participating in the parade chooses a specific theme. The theme is present in the colors and pattern choices for the clothes and also in the accessories each group member is carrying.

The ‘seú’ is also the name of the music genre accompanying the groups. Non-electric instruments are originally used to play the ‘seú’. Drums made out of wood and veal are called ‘barí’. A ‘chapi’, which is actually an ancient agricultural tool to move soil also known as a hoe, is another main instrument used to play the ‘seú’. Another interesting music instrument you may see is the conch, of which sound comes out of when blown in it. The different musical groups performing during the parade consist of mainly males playing the instruments and both females and males for the vocals.

The ‘Seú’ Harvest Parade takes place on Easter Monday starting in the morning hours.

Pal’i MaíshiKAS DI

Opening Hours: Tuesday - Sunday 9.00 am - 4.00 pm

Horarios : Martes - Domingo9.00 am - 4.00 pm

I naugurated on August 10, 2014, Museo Kas di Pal’i Maishi is an interactive open air museum located in between Ascencion and Dokterstuin. The

museum provides an interesting angle on how people used to live in Curaçao and the many forms of food preparation and daily activities. Kas di Pal’i Maishi is Papiamentu for a house with a roof made out of corn stalk, hence the name. The materials used to build houses in the past were really flammable, especially the corn stalk used for the roof. To avoid any incidents, the kitchen and the different types of ovens were all built in the backyard.

When visiting it is recommended to take the tour with the museum’s guide. It is more interesting and informative this way. While the guide is sharing our history and traditions, feel free to try out some of the daily chores our ancestors had to execute. For example moving ‘datu’ cactus from point A to B with a wooden tool called ‘Chi ku Cha’ or filling a water bucket at the well and balancing it on the head or taking photos with the traditional head cloth. The museum has a special focus on Community Tourism and the involvement of the neighbours and local citizens in the further development of the museum and its activities. A visit to Museo Kas di Pal’i Maishi is a unique way to learn more about Curaçao’s history and especially how our ancestors used to prepare food. The museum is open from Tuesday to Sunday and a small entrance fee is charged. On request the museum also offers different nature walks in the surroundings.

B orn on April 20th, 1939 as Lidwina Marciana Veeris. Dinah Veeris is a calm and wise woman, living on the east side of the island where she also has

her Herbal Garden ‘Den Paradera’. According to Dinah when she was a little girl she used to transform her grandmother’s garden into a classroom where she would be the teacher and the plants and trees the pupils. The ones who didn’t have flowers would be punished and not get any water for that day. That would result ofcourse in less flowers. Later on her interest for plants and herbs grew and Dinah made sure she learned everything possible about plants and herbs on the ABC islands, Aruba, Bonaire and Curaçao. In 1991 she started developing ‘Den Paradera’ plant by plant.

Dinah admits she’s not a good cook, but she can make a delicious fresh salad with different ingredients. This also happens to be her favourite meal. When asked where she would recommend visitors to have a meal, the answer was ‘Marshe Bieu’ without any doubt. At the ‘Marshe Bieu’ (the Old Market) in Punda you can try local dishes and really taste our culture.

Dinah’s favourite place when she was a little girl was a bench in her grandmother’s garden. Whenever she misbehaved they would make her sit on the bench, but little did her family know that she enjoyed her time on the bench. Her fantasy would take over and she could be anything she wanted. Nowadays Dinah’s favourite place is sitting under a tree in her own garden. She uses those moments to think, to meditate and put things into perspective. Dinah’s recommendation to the ones visiting Curaçao is to enjoy our nature, our flora and fauna. The island might be really dry during certain months but as soon as it gets a little bit of rain everything blossoms. Want to learn more about medicinal herbs and products in Curaçao? Dinah Veeris’ Den Paradera is open from Monday to Saturday and guided tours are available.

W hen in Curaçao, a visit to the Handelskade and a stroll on the Queen

Emmabridge are a must. For many locals looking at the Handelskade in person is a reminder that they are home. For all other visitors, it is one of the ‘must see’ items on their list. It is recommended to experience this both by day as by night. A visit by night is completely different and a delight for the eyes and cameras.

The Handelskade, located in Willemstad Punda, is a unification of several colorful buildings next to each other. The city’s unique and historical architecture was one of the key factors for UNESCO to place it on the World Heritage list. The rich colors of Curaçao can also be found in the different houses and buildings around the island. Scharloo, Fleur de Marie, Pietermaai and Marie Pampoen are a good example of neighborhoods with colorful and characteristic residences in the area of Willemstad. Typically small alleys and houses attached to each other, each one with a different color. In Otrobanda (Papiamentu for the other side), the same structures are

Christoff el Park is the largest park of Curaçao, with a rich variety of fl ora and fauna. One visit will simply not be enough. The Park consists of 1860 hectares of wooded hills, housing several rare and indigenous species. The Jeremi Hills are also part of the park grounds. Here the rare and indigenous Sabal Palm can be spotted, along other rare plant species.

With eight diff erent hiking trails, Christoff el Park can and must be experienced in diff erent ways. Start the day with an early morning hike to the top of the 372 meters (1,220 ft) tall Mount Christoff el. By feet, this is the highest peak to experience Curaçao. Although a breathtaking view no matter the time of the year, there is a diff erence between a hike during or right after a rainy period and a hike during the dry months. The best reward for reaching the top is a visit to one of the beaches on the West side later during the day. The Park recommends climbing the mountain before 11.00 am and starting later on is not permitted. Our recommendation is to start the climb before 8.30 am. This way you avoid the heat

Shete Boka National Park adjoins the Christoff el Park, covering over 10 kilometers of the rocky North coast. The North coast is the roughest part of the island and swimming is not recommended on this side of the island, unless you are at the small natural pool near Boca Patrick. Than the suggestion is to take a seat and simply enjoy the waves hitting the coastline. The Park is named Shete (7) Boka because of its seven inlets that are all accessible for visitors in one way or another. The Park has several inlets that are protected breeding areas for sea turtles. From the rocks and with some luck you will be able to spot a sea turtle popping up for air.

Both the Christoff el Park and the Shete Boka National Park are open everyday of the week.

T here is nothing better than being welcomed by the orange scent of the Genuine Curaçao Liqueur upon arrival at Landhuis Chobolobo. The ‘Golden Orange of Curaçao’, otherwise known as the ‘laraha’ is the main ingredient for the

famous ‘Blue Curaçao’ liqueur. The orange fl avoured liqueur comes in fi ve diff erent colors: the original clear liqueur, green, red, orange and the worldly famous blue liqueur. Probably unknown to many, but an important addition to the list of original products made in Curaçao is the ‘Alcolado Glacial’. The so-called air conditioner in a bottle is produced by Curaçao Laboratories Ltd. also located at Landhuis Chobolobo.

Find out everything about the Genuine Curaçao Liqueur and Alcolado Glacial during the self-explanatory tour in the factory. In the cozy cinema the history and production of both products are showcased in a short documentary. At the end of the self explanatory tour visitors have the opportunity to taste the diff erent liqueur fl avours, before entering the well-assorted gift shop. We recommend you to try the ‘Chobolobo Delight’ in the new Chobolobo Café before you leave. It is a delicious dessert of vanilla ice cream, two slices of peach, mint leaves and on top a mix of Genuine Curaçao Chocolate and Coff ee Liqueur. Landhuis Chobolobo is open on Weekdays and the entrance is free.

T he island offers many hidden passages that can be discovered in different ways. Off-roading with a jeep or ATV, mountain biking or simply hiking

in the natural reserves.

For the adventure seekers Curaçao is definitely a hidden treasure. Go off-roading on the North side of the island and discover different caves and even a natural pool right before you reach Boca Patrick. Some say that when you see a hole in the rocks on that side of the island, where the water bursts out right after a wave hits the coast, that is where the island breathes. On a sunny day a small rainbow will complete this splashy experience. ‘Eric’s ATV’ and ‘Curaçao Buggy and ATV Tours’ both offer different off-roading tours with a buggy or ATV. If you prefer to go on expedition by yourself, rent a jeep, grab the directions and go!

At Playa Westpunt and Kenepa Grandi, cliff jumping is pretty much the highest adrenaline rush you will get. Jumping at all times is at your own risk. Your only challenge is to make it a clean jump and landing entering the water vertically. For the beginners, it is always possible to jump from smaller platforms at Caracasbaai for example.

THE STEAKHOUSE

The Brazilian Steakhouse has the all-you-can-eat concept where waiters (called ‘Picadores’) walk around the restaurant with skewers of meat, chicken, fi sh or shrimp, and basically keep bringing guests food until the customer tells them he or she needs a break.

SPA AND DR. FISH

At the Spa facility guests and visitors can get massages, but also off ered here is the treatment where fi sh nibble at your feet to remove dead skin.

Yet one can fi nd a restaurant, attraction, spa and resort that off er exactly that, hidden away from the hustle and bustle of island life: L’Aldea - The Rainforest Mystery. It is surprising, more than a little bit odd, and there is no denying that it is out of place in Curaçao. But perhaps that is the point. To transport visitors to someplace diff erent for a little

while. L’Aldea entails two restaurants, three bars, a boutique hotel, a spa, and a zoo fi lled with animals from the Amazon Jungle. The total area is over 45,000 square feet, a detail which can’t really be anticipated from what can be seen from the street. At the entrance you are welcomed by a surprising mix of lush jungle gardens, the sound of birds, animals and waterfalls, and intricately detailed buildings. There is a sense of peace and ambiance which can be hard to fi nd nowadays, but which is very pleasant and soothing.

THE RAINFOREST MYSTERY

If you’ve ever been to Curaçao, you probably have a series of mental images that immediately spring to mind. A lush tropical rainforest garden and buildings inspired by Maya, Inca and Arawak infl uences are probably the very last things you would expect in Curaçao.

AMAZONIA TOUR

The Amazonia Tour is a guided tour which weaves its’ way across the resort, just out of sight. Equal parts zoo, amusement park and history lesson, Amazonia is a true treat for kids who like animals that make many of us shudder: snakes, spiders, parrots, monkeys, lizards. There are 130 exotic species of animal which are endemic to the Amazon jungles of South America, apparently, and all of them except for the parrots ranked reasonably high on the “exotic animals” index.

W hether it is a barbecue at a beach in Bandabou (Westpoint of the island), sailing in the Spanish Waters with

friends or jumping from a platform in the deep blue waters at Caracasbaai, one thing is certain: here in Curaçao Sunday is Seaday.

Often groups of yachts join each other and families and friends hang out at sea. This is exactly how Fuikday started years ago on the fi rst Sunday of the year. Nowadays Fuikday is the biggest party at sea in Curaçao and perhaps the biggest in the Caribbean area.

I t is often said that Curaçao is more than just its beaches and white sand, but with over 35 diff erent beaches it is surely an important part

of the island. From private to public beaches, to the secluded beaches where you may need more than just a roadmap to get there, to the small gem called Klein Curaçao. When looking for beaches in Curaçao, chances are that JanThiel Beach, Mambo Beach and Grote Knip were mentioned. The fi rst two are located on the East side and although a small fee is charged, both have diff erent facilities on location. Restaurants, shops, ATM, cocktail bars, water activities and beachsports. Grote Knip is a public beach located on the West side of the island. Visitors are allowed to bring their own snacks and drinks and it is even possible to have a BBQ on the beach. You are invited to explore the numerous beaches, especially the smaller but surely beautiful ones. Please help us keep the island, our beaches and our ocean clean by disposing all trash correctly.

AT THE BEACH

It can be seen at almost all the beaches on the South side and therefore this becomes an additional excuse to visit the beach. Depending on where you are, the experience is diff erent and you might also have a diff erent angle. A selection of recommended places to watch the sunset:

CÔTE DE ZEST: put your feet in the sand, order a bucket of your favourite beer or a bottle of your preferred wine with some sides and simply enjoy.

POP’S PLACE: a restaurant with a terrace located at the end of Caracasbaai right on the beach. Besides of having a great variety of seafood dishes with a local touch on the menu, Pop’s Place is a nice location to watch the sunset. When standing in the entrance, try to get the small table in the back corner on the right. This is in our opinion the best seat in the house. Grab a bite and enjoy the view. The transition from daylight to darkness, combined with the sound of the sea is a perfect and soothing combination.

C uraçao is called a hidden treasure in the Caribbean for many reasons. One of those reasons is the possibility to practice multiple water sports such as surfi ng, windsurfi ng, kitesurfi ng,

wakeboarding, sailing and stand up paddling.

Cooling trade winds blowing constantly from the East pick up around February. From October to January the winds normally slow down. If you want to catch some waves in Curaçao it is recommended to do so between the months of February and September. Playa Kanoa, St. Jorisbay, Caracasbay, Spanish Waters and even Klein Curaçao are great and common spots to enjoy your favourite water activities.

Surfers usually go to Playa Kanoa and during specifi c periods of the year they lodge at Klein Curaçao waiting for the big waves. St. Jorisbay is a hotspot for both windsurfers and kitesurfers. Follow the road to Ostrich Farm if you want to go kitesurfi ng. The windsurfers must follow the road to Koral Tabak and when you fi nd a small house in the middle of the road you know that’s the other entrance to St. Jorisbay.

Get acquainted with the locals and with some luck they will take you to secret spots on the island to enjoy your favourite water sport.

T he lionfish is a mysterious yet beautiful fish to look at. However, this species does not belong in our waters. The lionfish is a menace to our ecosystem and our reefs and this is the reason why it is allowed to hunt on the lionfish.

Certain dive operators offer special trips to help prevent the lionfish population from growing. If handled with care and prepared correctly, this fish makes for a delicious meal. Visit mr. Enchi at Sea Side Terrace and order a fresh lionfish with ‘funchi’ (polenta). Thankfully the lionfish is not the only species found in our waters. The underwater population is is large and diverse, including sea turtles, marine crustaceans and cetaceans among others.

F or many reasons, a visit to the historical city center of Willemstad is a must for

shoppers. In every corner a different store or a new alley can be discovered. Just like the famous Handelskade, the other alleys in Punda are colorful and diverse. The multicultural aspect of the island can also be found in Punda. From the displays, to the products, to the approach. While in Punda grab a drink on one of the terraces and enjoy the atmosphere, in between your shopping spree.

Unlike Punda, Otrobanda has one main street for shopping, which is the Breedestraat. The shops in Otrobanda offer a great variety of clothing, shoes, accessoires and electronics all at competitive prices. Some may find the viaduct about halfway through Breedestraat a little crowded, but this is a common meeting point for those living or working in Otrobanda. T he local fl avours are well represented in the so called ‘Krioyo’ (Creole) dishes. Most of these dishes are only served during lunch hours,

because of the richness in fl avours and ingredients. The Old Market in Punda (Downtown Willemstad) called ‘Marshe Bieu’, is home for various kitchens of diff erent local owners serving breakfast and lunch from Monday to Saturday. Seating at the long tables is on a ‘fi rst come fi rst serve’ basis. Share a table with locals or other visitors and do not hesitate to start a conversation when waiting for your dish. ‘Piská Kòra ku Funchi’ (A fried red snapper with polenta, fried plantain and a special sauce), ‘Kabritu Stobá’ (stewed goat meat served with a side order of choice), ‘Bakiòu ku Tutu’ (Cod fi sh with tutu which is best described as a version of sweet polenta made with black eyed peas as main ingredient). These are just three of the many local dishes that are regularly served at the Old Market.

If you want to try something completely diff erent and are able to turn a blind eye to the texture and simply let your taste buds do the work, than we recommend the ‘Giambo’ (Okra soup). Staying West of the island and craving ‘krioyo’? Cafe & Restaurant Komedor Krioyo is located at Dokterstuin. A local family transformed the old plantation house into a restaurant that is highly popular amongst the local community and travelers. The restaurant is open from Tuesday to Sunday and has a wide variety of local dishes.

FOOD TRUCKS A.K.A. ‘TRÙK’I PAN’

Looking for a real local tradition, than a stop at a ‘Trùk’i Pan’ (truck-ee-pang) is a must. ‘Trùkí Pan’ literally means bread truck in the native language Papiamentu. Every day around 9.00 pm most of these Food Trucks open their ‘windows’ and within seconds the fi rst sandwiches are ordered and prepared. The sandwiches are served with meat, chicken or seafood of choice. Instead of a sandwich it is also possible to order a side of french fries, rice or salad depending on the location. Have a chat with friends while savouring your meal in the open air next to the Food Truck, in your car or simply leaning against your car. Find out which ‘Trùk’i Pan’ is nearby and have a late dinner without a table.

‘FOOD TRUCKS’ O ‘TRÙK’I PAN’

The Government of Curaçao off ers attractive incentives through the Economic Zone law. A free (economic) zone is a fenced-in Customs area where import, export and transit of goods as well as services, are permitted free from import duties. Curaçao has several economic zones of which two off er facilities to provide service as well as trading in physical goods. One is located at the harbor and the other one is adjacent to the international airport. Special incentives make it very appealing for businesses to operate out of Curaçao’s Free (Economic) zones:

The fi scal system is in compliance with OECD standards with a standing on their white list! Curaçao also meets the most important requirements of the American tax authority (IRS). This means that Curaçao is not a “tax haven” but it has kept up with the quality de-mands of the international fi nancial industry. Curaçao has always been a center for trade, and this is now transforming into a hub function in the region. Curaçao has deep and wide natural harbors and is located outside the hurricane belt. The island also has good physical infrastructure

DOING

IN CURAÇAO

Curaçao underwent some important constitutional changes within the Kingdom of the Netherlands. One of the most visible changes is the dismantling of the entity of the Netherlands Antilles. Curaçao is indeed still part of the Dutch Kingdom, although with its autonomous status of “country” within the Kingdom.

Curaçao Airport Partners (CAP), a subsidiary of the experienced interna-tional airport operator A-Port, runs the day-to-day operations of the airport. Handling more than 1,3 million passengers every year, CAP’s goal is to offer a convenient, safe and efficient experience. Behind the scenes, teaming up with the operator is Curaçao Airport Holding (CAH). This government-owned Limited Liability Company owns the Curaçao International Airport and 450ha of surrounding terrains. “Our airport operations are in good hands and this gives CAH the opportunity to focus on its mission to stimulate air lift and acquire, develop, support and manage value-adding business activities and sustainable economic growth for Curaçao with the visionary airport plan full of interesting opportu-nities for investors and business development”, says CAH Director Maurice Adriaens.

dreaming bigCuraçao Airport Holding envisions the Curaçao International Airport to be a highly efficient airport servicing origin and destination traffic, and connecting South America and the Caribbean to North America and Europe. The airport will grow to become a center of aviation, transport and travel with both aviation and non-aviation businesses, all the while focusing on green, sustainable, innovative and knowledge-intensive industries, creating a powerful engine for the economic develop-ment of Curaçao. “We dream it to become the first 100% self-sufficient green energy based airport in the region, featuring such innovations as Salt Water Air Conditioning, Waste to Energy and Ocean Thermal Energy Conversion for generation of electricity. We invite investors and business development organizations to contact us about our unique 450ha airport site”.

a state-of-the-art competitive airportCAH occasionally contributes in improvement of the airport through investments of its own. Commercial Developer Simon Kloppenburg explains why: “We look at the bigger picture and the long-term initiatives that innovate our airport experience. We aim to become the airport you will want to come back to, stay longer in, with facilities that attract both business travelers and leisure visitors. Entering and leaving Curaçao through our airport should be something to remember the warm hearted Curaçao people by. CAH plays a central role in inspiring, initiating, organizing and managing ideas and concepts for our stakeholders and most importantly, for our visitors.”

more technical stops, transit passengers and cargo transshipmentThe quality operation of the airport itself is a determining factor in the attractiveness of Curaçao as a choice for e.g. cargo trans-shipment, technical stops and transit of passengers to other destinations. “In this sense we can speak of a strong reciprocal development, which is why CAH’s role in all three of the afore-mentioned areas of development is equally as important”, says Director Adriaens. “The stimulation of additional air traffic of multiple types is key. The current majority of traffic in Curaçao is origin and destination traffic, consisting of locals, visiting business people, tourists and cargo destined to the island itself. The airport has a great potential to influence more discretionary traffic, such as technical stops, transshipment of cargo and passengers in transit to other destinations.” Looking to attain and expand a central logistic hub position for Curaçao between South America, the Caribbean, North America and Europe, CAH aims to raise and maintain excellence in the total package of services to achieve a competitive position and attract new business. Things like reason-able fuel prices, a fast turnaround, excellent cargo and passenger facilities, efficient immigration and customs processing all play an equally important role in the success of Curaçao’s hub function.

facilitator with a business senseIn a more entrepreneurial sense, CAH also believes more traffic can be attracted by proactively building new facilities. For instance, in order to stimulate cargo transshipment, CAH seeks cooperating investors to prebuild warehouses for potential operators. Besides proactive expansion of facilities, CAH also contributes to airline incentive schemes to open up new strategically attractive air routes for passenger traffic, if they contribute to the vision of Curaçao’s hub function.

In addition, CAH is looking to further expand the General Aviation niche in conjunction with CAP, by extending leases to new Fixed-base Operators (FBOs) for services such as ground handling, cargo, hospitality, fueling, hangars, tie-down and parking, aircraft rental, aircraft maintenance, flight instruction, etc.

economic growth through sophisticated area developmentCAH’s mission is also to attract investments for the transforma-tion of the airport towards the future. When talking about this subject, Maurice Adriaens sounds most determined. He says: “Dreams consist of thoughts and visions; Innovation exists in the perseverance to turn these ideas into actions. Curaçao Airport Holding has full control over 450 hectares (1100 acres) of land around the airport, of which about 200 hectares (494 acres) are suitable for immediate development.

This development will provide a major boost to Curaçao’s overall economic growth and will put Curaçao on the map as the #1 business hub in the Pan-American Region.” Simon Kloppenburg is excited about the vision: “Curaçao International Airport will be so much more than just another airport. We are talking about new hotels, offices, warehouses, universities, housing, sporting & entertainment facilities and ecological industries.” CAH takes the lead as the driving force and coordinating authority to get the first projects going and motivate private investors to participate. New businesses preferably operate in innovative, environmen-tally conscious green industries. CAH also provides incentives to stimulate strategic developers, in the form of seed capital and co-investments in strategic projects, and acts as intermediary to obtain government permits, licenses, and other decisions; as advisor, coordinator or matchmaker between parties; and as general source of knowledge. One of CAH’s first partners in this effort is a Spaceport for commercial space travel, operated by the Space Expedition Corporation. But Space Travel is definitely not the only good thing to come to Curaçao in the near future. CAH also proactively initiates the realization of the necessary basic and more elaborate infrastructure, as well as several energy and cost saving technologies such as Sea Water Air Conditioning with investing partner BlueRise (www.bluerise.nl), in order to facilitate the high-quality durable development of the area.

In order to succeed in this mission, Curaçao Airport Holding has various roles and responsibilities, not only towards its stakeholders, but also to Curaçao as a whole.

As airport supervisor, CAH’s primary responsibility is guaranteeing a well-functioning quality airport, through monitoring of operations and reporting on performance. CAH also seeks to continuously improve the airport’s functioning through new investments. As air service developer, CAH proactively supports and assists in efforts to increase the volume and quality of air traffic to, from and through Curaçao.

As innovator and area developer, CAH initiates development of the terrains surrounding the airport for economic activity, creating a high tech, 100% self-sufficient, green and sustainable Airport City.Between all these ambitions, CAH recognizes its position as a government agency and assumes responsibility for excellence towards Curaçao and its people.

CLIMATE: Located in the tropics, just 12’ north of the Equator, Curaçao has a warm, sunny climate year round. The average temperature is about 27°C (in the mid 80s°F). Cooling trade winds blow constantly from the east, picking up in the spring months. The rainy season, October to February, is usually marked by short, occasional showers, mostly at night, and continued sunny weather by day. Curaçao is outside the hurricane belt; only three hurricanes have come near the island this century. Occasionally, a tropical storm brewing elsewhere in the Caribbean can cause uncharacteristically cloudy weather for a day or two.

TIME: Curaçao is on Atlantic Standard Time: one hour later than US Eastern Standard Time (the same time as Eastern Daylight Savings Time) and four hours earlier than Greenwich Mean Time.

MONEY MATTERS: Local currency is the Antillean guilder (also called the fl orin), abbreviated ANG. It is pegged to the US dollar at a stable rate of US$ 1 = ANG 1.77 for cash, ANG 1.78 for traveler’s checks. Exchange rates may vary slightly at stores and hotels. There is no black market. Exchange rates for other currencies are posted at banks and listed in the daily papers. Banks are open nonstop from 8:00 am to 3:30 pm Monday till Friday. The airport bank is open for exchange service from Monday till Saturday from 7:00 am to 8:00 pm and on Sunday from 7.30 am to 4.00 p.m. Selected bank branches have ATMs that disburse US dollars and Euros.

CURAÇAO CURRENTS: Electricity is 110 - 130 volts/50 cycles, similar but not identical to the US standard. Most electrical appliances from the United States will function properly, although appliances that have internal time mechanisms will not keep the correct time and hairdryers and curling irons may overheat. Dual voltage appliances from Europe and South America will need an adapter plug, readily available on the island. Although electrical current is generally reliable, consider using a surge regulator for sensitive electronic devices and computers. It’s a good idea to charge underwater strobes and videos on the regulated systems at dive shops and photo centers.

QUENCHING YOUR THIRST: Tap water is distilled directly from the sea, tastes good, and is safe to drink.
