ISAIAH 60:1-6 (NIV) Pastor Jonathan Leach

“Arise, shine, for your light has come, and the glory of the Lord rises upon you.See, darkness covers the earth and thick darkness is over the peoples,but the Lord rises upon you and his glory appears over you.Nations will come to your light, and kings to the brightness of your dawn.“Lift up your eyes and look about you: All assemble and come to you;

your sons come from afar, and your daughters are carried on the hip. Then you will look and be radiant, your heart will throb and swell with joy;the wealth on the seas will be brought to you, to you the riches of the nations will come.Herds of camels will cover your land, young camels of Midian and Ephah. And all from Sheba will come, bearing gold and incense and proclaiming the praise of the Lord.

Veni Veni Emmanuel (Sung in Latin)arr. John Englert

Veni, veni Emmanuel; O Come, O Come Emmanuel

Captivum solve Israel, And ransom captive Israel,

Qui gemit in exilio, Who mourns in lowly exile here,

Privatus Dei Filio. Until the Son of God appears.

Gaude! Gaude! Emmanuel, Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel

Nascetur pro te, Israel Shall come to you, O Israel.

Veni, veni, O Oriens; O come, thou Dayspring, come and cheer

Solare nos adveniens, Our spirits by thine advent here,

Noctis depelle nebulas, Disperse the gloomy clouds of night,

Dirasque noctis tenebras. And death’s dark shadows put to flight.

Gaude! Gaude! Emmanuel, Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel

Nascetur pro te, Israel Shall come to you, O Israel.

This Little Babe from A Ceremony of CarolsBenjamin Britten Mrs. Hannah Spivey, harp

This little babe so few days old, Is come to rifle Satan’s fold; All hell doth at his presence quake, Though he himself for cold do shake; For in this weak unarmed wise The gates of hell he will surprise.

With tears he fights and wins the field, His naked breast stands for a shield, His battering shot are babish cries, His arrows looks of weeping eyes, His martial ensigns, Cold and Need, And feeble Flesh his warrior’s steed.

His camp is pitched in a stall His bulwark but a broken wall; The crib his trench, haystalks his stakes; Of shepherds he his muster makes; And thus as sure his foe to wound The angels’ trumps alarum sound

My soul with Christ join thou in fight; Stick to the tents That he hath pight. Within his crib is surest ward; This little Babe will by thy guard If thou wilt foil thy Foes with joy, Then flit not from this heavenly boy!

His Light In UsKim Andre Arnesen

God’s distant call flares in the night, so long expected, so longed for; and all my life, Christ called my name, and now at last, I’ll answer Him.

Renewed, his hope, his light in us, incarnate, fragile, our Lord appears, Alleluia, alleluia! Eternal, so perfect, his cry of changeless love.

Alive, awake, His call is here: it is the crying of the Child; I know Christ’s call, its hidden flame, it makes my spirit flare with hope!

This root, this stem, this flowering Love, this mustard seed, it grows to the greatest tree, the birds of souls have nested there. The light of the night Now blazes at dawn!

You’ve led me here, O little child, your being singing with God’s life. The kingdom sings, it choirs with earth, all creation lives Christ’s peace.

HYMN

From Heaven Above to Earth I Come CW 38 Ms. Sarah Sauer, organ Audience joins in singing 1. “From heav'n above to earth I comeTo bear good news to ev'ry home;Glad tidings of great joy I bring,Whereof I now will say and sing:

2. “To you this night is born a childOf Mary, chosen virgin mild; This little child of lowly birthShall be the joy of all the earth.

3. “This is the Christ, our God most high,Who hears your sad and bitter cry;He will himself your Savior beFrom all your sins to set you free.

13. Ah, dearest Jesus, holy Child,Prepare a bed, soft, undefiledWithin my heart, made clean and new,A quiet chamber kept for you.

14. My heart for very joy must leap;My lips no more can silence keep.I, too, must sing with joyful tongueThat sweetest ancient cradle song:

15. Glory to God in highest heaven, Who unto us his Son has given! While angels sing with pious mirthA glad new year to all the earth.

Crusader ChorusMary Did You Knowarr. Jack Schraeder Lauren Shult, piano

Mary did you know that your baby boy will one day walk on water? Mary did you know that your baby boy will save our sons and daughters? Did you know that your baby boy has come to make you new? This child that you’ve delivered, will soon deliver you.

Mary did you know that your baby boy will give sight to a blind man? Mary did you know that your baby boy will calm a storm with his hand? Did you know that your baby boy has walked where angels trod? And when you kiss your little baby, you have kissed the face of God.

The blind will see, the deaf will hear, the dead will live again, The lame will leap, the dumb will speak, the praises of the Lamb.

Mary did you know that your baby boy is Lord of all creation? Mary did you know that your baby boy will one day rule the nations? Did you know that your baby boy is heaven’s perfect Lamb? This sleeping child you’re holding is the great I AM.

For Unto Us a Child Is Born from MessiahGeorge Frideric Handel, arr. Stevens and Landes Lauren Shult, piano

For unto us a child is born,Unto us a son is given,And the government shall be upon his shoulders,And his name shall be calledWonderful Counselor, the Mighty God, the Everlasting Father, the Prince of Peace.

Fum Fum Fum traditional Spanish carolarr. Ed Lojeski

On December five and twenty,Fum, fum, fum.On December five and twenty,Fum, fum, fum.Now we all our voices raise,And sing a song of grateful praise.Celebrate in song and story,All the wonders of His glory.Fum, fum, fum.

LUKE 2:1-7(KJV) Mr. Thomas Hansen

And it came to pass in those days, that there went out a decree from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be taxed. (And this taxing was first made when Cyrenius was governor of Syria.) And all went to be taxed, every one into his own city. And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judea, unto the city of David, which is called Bethlehem; (because he was of the house and lineage of David:) To be taxed with Mary his espoused wife, being great with child. And so it was, that, while they were there, the days were accomplished that she should be delivered. And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn.

Concert ChoirO Holy NightAdolphe Adam Ms. Sarah Sauer, piano

O holy night! The stars are brightly shining,It is the night of our dear Savior’s birth.Long lay the world in sin and error pining,Till He appear’d and the soul felt its worth.A thrill of hope, the weary world rejoices,For yonder breaks a new and glorious morn.Fall on your knees! O hear the angel voices!O night divine, O night when Christ was born;O night divine, O night, O night Divine.

Truly He taught us to love one another; His law is love and His gospel is peace.Chains shall He break for the slave is our brother; And in His name all oppression shall cease.Sweet hymns of joy in grateful chorus raise we,Let all within us praise His holy name.Christ is the Lord! O praise His Name forever,His power and glory evermore proclaim. His power and glory evermore proclaim.

What ChildPaul Lohman

What Child is this, who laid to rest,On Mary’s lap is sleeping?Whom angels greet with anthems sweet,While shepherds watch are keeping? This is Christ, the King,Whom shepherds guard and angels sing:Haste, haste to bring him laud,The Babe, the Son of Mary!

Why lies he in such mean estate Where ox and ass are feeding?Good Christian, fear: for sinners hereThe silent Word is pleading. This is Christ, the King,Whom shepherds guard and angels sing:Hail, Hail the Word made flesh,The Babe, the Son of Mary!

So bring Him incense, gold and myrrh,Come, peasant, king to own Him.The King of kings salvation brings;Let loving hearts enthrone Him.This is Christ, the King,Whom shepherds guard and angels sing:Joy, Joy for Christ is born,The Babe, the Son of Mary!

LUKE 2:8-14 (KJV) Mr. Lucas Boehm

And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid. And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, which is Christ the Lord. And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger. And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying, Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.

Mass Choir and Concert BandAngels’ CarolJohn Rutter Hannah Spivey, harp

Have you heard the sound of the angel voices Ringing out so sweetly, ringing out so clear? Have you seen the star shining out so brightly As a sign from God that Christ the Lord is here?

Have you heard the news that they bring from heaven To the humble shepherds who have waited long? Gloria in excelsis Deo! Gloria in excelsis Deo! Hear the angels sing their joyful song.

He is come in peace in the winter’s stillness, Like a gentle snowfall in the gentle night. He is come in joy, like the sun at morning, Filling all the world with radiance and with light.

He is come in love as the child of Mary. In a simple stable we have seen his birth. Gloria in excelsis Deo! Gloria in excelsis Deo! Hear the angels singing ‘Peace on earth’.

He will bring new light to a world in darkness, Like a bright star shining in the skies above. He will bring new hope to the waiting nations, When he comes to reign in purity and love.

Let the earth rejoice at the Saviour’s coming. Let the heavens answer with a joyful morn: Gloria in excelsis Deo! Gloria in excelsis Deo! Hear the angels singing, ‘Christ is born’.
