From ThePublishera Tribute

It is with great sadness and a heavy heart as I write this tribute, honoring the 20

children and six teachers who lost their lives in Friday’s shooting rampage. It makes no sense and there are not enough words to express a nation’s grief and outrage at this tragedy.

The devastation of such innocence has changed the face of our country and the only silver lining is that their sacrifice has brought us together as a united front for the darkness that took so many lives before their time.

As we are viewing this event, watching the outpouring of love and support, we can take comfort with the realization that these 20 young souls have become Angels in the Realm of God and that the teachers and principal of Sandy Hook, have taken up the mantle of Guardian Angels who will watch over the families that are so deeply affected.

We must also know that the gunman’s own mother is among those souls who made the transition, and although we may not understand the “whys” as to the loss of life on such a large scale, she too is a victim at the hands of her son.

With the anger, pain and grief, healing will take place with time; however, we must not play into the darkness by blaming. We must not second guess the Divine Plan for all is perfect in the overall scheme of life…despite our objections.

So, remember, we create reality through thoughts. We can either raise the vibration to a positive realm or stay mired in the dark, thus not allowing true healing to happen.

Call upon the Angels of Heaven and the Guardians of time to melt away the grief, pain and anger and replace it with understanding, forgiveness, love and closure.

To all those in pain, our prayers are with you.

Blessings,

In Love & Light,Michelene

propertieS ~ Garnet species are found in many colors including red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple, brown, black, pink and colorless. The rarest of these is the blue garnet, discovered in the late 1990s in Bekily, Madagascar. It is also found in parts of the United States, Russia, Kenya, Tanzania, and Turkey. It changes color from blue-

green in the daylight to purple in incandescent light as a result of the relatively high amounts of vanadium (about 1 wt. % V2O3). Other varieties of color-changing garnets exist. In daylight, their color ranges from shades of green, beige, brown, gray, and blue, but in incandescent light, they appear a reddish or purplish/pink color. Because of their color-changing quality, this kind of garnet is often mistaken for Alexandrite.

Garnet species’ light transmission properties can range from the gemstone-quality transparent specimens to the opaque varieties used for industrial purposes as abrasives. The mineral’s luster is categorized as vitreous (glass-like) or resinous (amber-like). According to the Talmud, the only light on Noah’s Ark was provided by a large Garnet. All types of Garnets carry the energy of prosperity.

Garnet is the “Stone of Health”, extracting negative energy from the chakras, and transmuting the energy to a beneficial state. It is said to have been one of the powerful stones used in the breastplate of the high priests of the time.

It has been used as a sacred stone by the Native American Indians, the South American Indians, the Aztecs, the African tribal elders, and the Mayans. It acts with speed due to the flash of lightening contained within, helping one to change ones world by producing both expansiveness in awareness and manifestation. It enhances one’s internal fire, bringing the creative powers to the stage of implementation. It allows one to recognize inherent responsibility with respect to personal freedom and patience, inciting personal magnetism and cooperation in instances of change.

It has also been known as the “Stone of Commitment” … to purpose, to others, and to oneself. The loving powers of Garnet tend to reflect the attributes of devotion, bringing the love of others to expressions of warmth and understanding. It is very helpful when in moods of abandonment, allowing one to realize that surrender to discontinuity brings freshness to one’s life.

The Garnet balances and stimulates the development and movement of the Kundalini. It carries the ability from both the base and crown chakras to provide for the free flow of movement, via the spinal column and the inner pathway of light, helping to distribute the appropriate amount of energy to each portion of

the body. It provides for a stable connection between the physical and ethereal nervous systems, energizing the total system to vitality. It esthetically controls and dispenses the amount of energy that is best for the system.

It is an excellent stone for treating disorders of the spine and the spinal fluid, bone cellular structure and composition of the heart, lungs and blood. It has been used in the treatment of sexual energies and to enhance the assimilation of iodine, calcium, magnesium, and Vitamins A, D, and E. It balances the sex drive and alleviates feelings of disharmony. This amazing stone can also be helpful in all conditions requiring regenerative forces.

I find the power of Garnet to be unsurpassed in specific healings and I use it myself.

Monthly Inspirations from

Alan CohenEnlightEning ViEws

Many years ago a young Kansas City artist struggled to get his cartoons

published in the city newspaper. His offerings, however, were met with

rejection after rejection. …

“Forget it,” editors told him. “You have no talent. Get a real job.” But the artist felt he did have talent and refused to compromise his career.

Finally, the artist found himself holed up in a mice-infested garage, penniless. Bored, he began to sketch his environment, especially one little mouse who ran back and forth on his window sill. Over time the artist made friends with the rodent and the two developed a relationship. He named the mouse “Mickey.”

The artist was Walt Disney, and you know the rest of the story. Disney went on to establish the most expansive entertainment empire in the world, with amusement parks spanning the globe, major film and television companies, and countless spinoff products. Over the years Walt, Mickey, and their entertainment progeny have provided limitless joy for hundreds of millions of children and their families. If you have ever visited one

of the Disney parks or watched Disney films or television, you can thank Walt Disney for trusting his talent.

Everyone has a bankable talent. You came to Earth for a purpose. On the deepest level you are here for a spiritual purpose, to discover your identity and your value in the cosmic plan. You also have a form of expression in the world, to serve others while fulfilling yourself. Do not stop until you have tapped into your talent and expressed it. It is why you are here.

In biblical times, a “talent” was a high-value unit of currency, about 80 pounds of silver, equal to the wages paid to a man for about twenty years of work. Translate that into the dollar amount for twenty years of work today, and you will understand its huge worth.

The biblical parable of the talents tells of a householder who left home for a long time and gave three servants talents to use wisely. When the master

returned, he found that two of the servants had invested their talents and generated a significant return. The third servant, however, had simply hidden his talent in the ground and made no use of it whatsoever. The master was highly displeased with this servant, and cast him out.

The parable teaches that talents are valuable only if you use them. If you “hide your light under a basket,” the light doesn’t get to do what it was created to do. If you ignore or deny your talents, the world misses the blessing you were born to bring to it, and you miss the spiritual and

material reward you deserve.

A more modern wayfarer, Cesar Milan grew up poor in Mexico in a house with no running water. Young Cesar was shy and unpopular, and other kids made fun of him because he spent time with dogs; they laughingly calling him “El Perrero,” or “dog boy.” In 1990 at age 21 Cesar crossed the border into the U.S. as an illegal immigrant, paid for by his father’s $100 investment in his son’s better future. Speaking no English, homeless, and penniless, Milan walked the streets panhandling, and hung out in a park. There Milan befriended people walking their dogs and helped them improve their pets’ behaviors. Eventually Cesar got a job in a dog grooming shop, where he helped tame an aggressive Cocker Spaniel. The owners liked him and gave him a key to the store so he could get off the streets and have a place to sleep and shower.

Milan moved to Los Angeles, where he worked hard in a car wash. The owner gave him a van to start a mobile dog training business. Cesar met actress Jada Pinkett (who later became actor Will Smith’s wife) and helped her with her dog. Pinkett was so impressed that she introduced Cesar to her Hollywood friends and paid for him to get a tutor for a year to improve his English. In 2004 the National Geographic Channel gave Cesar Milan his own television show, which became a hit

and fueled his worldwide reputation as “The Dog Whisperer.” Milan’s show, broadcast in 80 countries, has spawned five bestselling books, a line of pet products, several dog sanctuaries, and generous charity donations.

One has to wonder what the world would be like without the gifts bestowed by Walt Disney, Cesar Milan, and Stephen Jobs, who quit college to design fonts, and eventually built the Apple empire. Do you believe you have less to offer than them? You may not be interested or destined to build an empire, but you can build a kingdom of heaven raising your child, waitressing in a restaurant, or helping the elderly. God has given everyone a unique talent to serve and find reward, including you.

The beginning of a new year is a perfect time to take stock of your talents. What comes easily and naturally to you? What would you do even if you weren’t getting paid for it? What do people compliment you for? These are all clues to your talent. This year don’t bury your talent or hide it under a basket. It’s why you’re here.

the saying goes, nobody likes a quitter. But if you really want to experience true happiness and fulfillment this year, that’s exactly what you should strive to

be in a few key areas.

Overall, Americans are just plain exhausted—and it isn’t surprising. Society tells us (not very subtly, either) that we need to perform to a certain standard, look a certain way, weigh a certain number, make a certain amount of money, and much more. Too bad that “perfect” lifestyle is impossible to achieve. Nobody can do it all, all of the time. So when you inevitably take on too much and allow one of the plates you’re juggling to drop, you end up disappointed, tired, and miserable. Case in point: How are your New Year’s resolutions faring? Chances are, they’ve already fallen by the wayside, and you’re feeling like a failure.

The problem is that we set ourselves up for disappointment by having unrealistic and unsustainable expectations. Instead, we’ll be best served by making 2013 the year we stop doing things that aren’t adding to our happiness.

Let’s face it, our lives are already packed full of responsibilities. Piling on even more just isn’t feasible and it’s also a recipe for unhappiness. Instead, we should focus on prioritizing the things in our lives that really matter, and on dropping dead weight that might be holding us back.

“Quitting” various success-oriented behaviors and habits seems coun-terintuitive. After all, doing less goes directly against society’s recipe for building our best and most fulfilling lives. I know from experience more isn’t always better.

For much of my life I was addicted to the pursuit of perfection. I constantly pushed myself to be the best, first in school and later in my career. Sure, I led my family’s company to unprecedented heights, I had a wonderful wife and son, and I was involved in and respected by my community. But when I was only thirty-six, my do-it-all lifestyle imploded and I suffered a complete nervous breakdown.

Since then, I realized I was pushing myself too hard, prioritizing the wrong

things, and working toward success for the wrong reasons.

In the decade since my breakdown, most of my goals and priorities have shifted. I’ve learned you can be much happier if you clear extraneous and unhealthy responsibilities from your life and let yourself off the hook more often.

Here are twelve things you should resolve to stop doing now if you want 2013 to be your greatest year yet:

The ones that aren’t working, that is. Face it: Whether it’s a coworker who hands out backhanded compliments like they’re candy or a “frenemy” who always tries to one-up your accomplishments, there are people who drain your energy and make your attitude dip into murky territory. No matter how much you may want to make these relationships work, forcing yourself to spend time with negative people won’t do you any favors. Studies show that in terms of your attitude and happiness levels, you will be the average of the five people you spend the most time with.

So clearly, you need to be around other people who share your commitment to happiness if you want to be happier and avoid unnecessary stress. It’s okay and actually healthy to distance yourself from so-called ‘toxic’ individuals. For instance, politely decline your frenemy’s invitation to grab a drink and call up a more uplifting person instead. And don’t ignore close relationships here, either. Of course, I advocate doing everything you can to eliminate strain with family members. Realize, though, that maybe this is the year to finally admit that you and your partner have irreconcilable differences that are making both of you unhappy, or it is the year to finally tell your mother that her controlling behavior needs to stop.

Start being real. Perhaps you’re one who always blurts out what’s on your mind. If so, skip this piece of advice. However, it’s much more likely you swallow barbed comments or constructive criticism in favor of a more

diplomatic response. You might even allow yourself to be taken advantage of from time to time in order to please another. Guess what, it’s time to stop! Dishonest politeness doesn’t develop authentic relationships.

No, it’s not appropriate to go on reality show-worthy rants whenever you feel upset; however, at the same time, masking your real opinions and feelings isn’t helpful in the long term. Remember, having a smaller number of true friends is healthier than denying your own happiness in order to make everyone else like you. Usually, there is a polite way to say no or let another person know he or she is out of line without permanently burning bridges.

“No”, isn’t advocating you become a total slacker. What I want you to do is think about the b-word: balance. The fact is, every year we try to reach new heights in our careers. We say we’ll work harder, get a promotion, and earn a raise. However, everyone has physical and mental limits. And despite the fact society often confuses the two, achievement doesn’t equal happiness. No matter how good intentions are, overloading on work will cause your relationships, mindset, and even health to suffer.

Striving for professional success isn’t inherently bad, but in this case you can definitely pile on too much of a good thing. For me, 70 and 80-hour weeks actually caused a breakdown, not happiness! Please, don’t follow in my footsteps. Even if you don’t drive yourself over the edge, living the life of a workaholic can still bury you in stress, anxiety, and depression.

This year, really think about what a healthy balance looks like. And remember, no one looks back on their lives at age eighty and says, “Gee, I wish I’d spent less time with my family and friends and more time at the office.”

This may come as a shock, but you probably expect too much from yourself. Whether the issue is your appearance, house, family, or job, you

want to achieve as much perfection as humanly possible. And on top of that, you most likely focus on what you do wrong and rarely celebrate what you do right. This year, it’s time to really realize you’re human, and thus fallible, and so it’s inevitable you will mess up—or even just put in an “adequate” performance—every now and then.

Setting the bar impossibly high is a recipe for making yourself feel miserable. I used to expect nothing less than perfection out of myself, which was delusional! We’re all human, which means we’re going to make mistakes from time to time. That doesn’t mean we’re in any way unworthy or undeserving of love. In fact, learning to love myself and accept my flaws was at the core of my own happiness journey. This year, consciously lower your expectations to more realistic standards, celebrate your many successes, and stop beating yourself up so much.

Ignore The JonesesKeeping up with the Joneses seems to be the American way of life. We’re constantly comparing ourselves to our friends, neighbors, coworkers, and even people whose lives we see displayed on reality TV. My sister’s kids are always perfectly behaved, you think. What am I doing wrong? Or even, I know Bob’s salary is the same as mine. How come he’s driving a new SUV and I can’t even scrape together a down payment? No matter what the situation, thoughts like these only leave you feeling jealous, less-than, and unhappy.

The most ironic part is, the friend whose life seems perfect on the outside probably doesn’t feel that way in the privacy of his own home. For years, I was the guy with a career and bank account others would have killed to have, but the truth; I was stressed out of my mind and unable to relax for even a second!

Yes, it will be hard to change your habitual thought processes. But you need to understand the fundamental truth that ‘happy’ for you won’t look the same as it does for anyone else and that’s okay! Focus primarily on your own feelings and fulfillment; don’t use another person’s life as a measuring stick to determine how good your own is.

When you’re always focused on the “next big thing,” you’re perpetually anxious, you often forget to live in the present, and you’re never able to enjoy all the blessings

you already have.

tells you to focus on your spouse and put his or her needs first. To a point, that advice is accurate: As a partner in life and in love, you should be your spouse’s biggest supporter and coach. Just don’t allow tunnel vision to blind you to your own needs and responsibilities.

While you should never take advantage or ignore your partner, putting yourself second all the time can breed frustration and resentment. This year, stop focusing so much on your spouse. Look inward instead; figure out what will make you happy. Remember, when you do things that make you happy, it’s good for your husband or wife too. Of course, ask yourself what you can do to improve yourself, and thus your marriage, instead of always expecting your partner to take the lead.

Stop Giving So MuchIf you don’t, you’ll eventually run dry! There are many people in our lives who depend on us and want our help, our time, our advice, etc. If you care for those individuals, of course you’ll want to be accommodating. (Or perhaps you just have a hard time saying no!) For whatever reason, it can be all too easy to keep giving and giving and giving to others to the point where there’s nothing left for you.

If you are that person, if spending all your time and energy on others is the norm and doing something for yourself is extremely rare, watch it. Figure out what’s important to you and what fulfills you, and prioritize those things more. Stop putting others and their needs first all the time! In order to be happy, you have to know what your strengths are, and you have to play to them on a regular basis. You can’t live your life primarily to please other people.

Stop Pushing Your Kids So HardAs parents, we really care about our kids, and want them to have the best possible futures. But that doesn’t mean you need to turn into a so-called “Tiger Parent.” Too much pressure to perform can cause children of any age to burn out and make self-destructive decisions. In fact, some kids are experiencing symptoms ranging from stomachaches to severe depression due to the day-to-day stress they encounter at school and home.

Having a teenage son, I know how easy it is to get neurotic about pushing him

to succeed. We all want the best for our kids, and even if you don’t want to admit it, it’s easy to get addicted to that swell of pride you feel when your son or daughter wins top honors. As I’ve said before, it’s crucial to remember that success and happiness aren’t the same thing. Your kids will be much happier, healthier, more creative, and more motivated throughout their lives if you prioritize balance and love them for who they are, not for how many As they get on their report cards.

Forget Quality Time With Your KidsStart focusing on quantity! It’s easy to use the words “quality time with my kids” as a free pass to focus on other aspects of your life 95% of the time. In other words, we want to believe we can make up for working 70-hour weeks by taking a trip to Disney World, or catch up on all the week’s events while going out for ice cream. But the fact is, life is found in the everyday moments, not in the big blowout trips. Kids themselves are perceptive … they can tell if they always take second place in your life.

Doing ‘normal’ things with your kids on a regular basis will mean more to them and you long-term than the occasional extraordinary event. So build regular ‘parent time’ into your schedule, and try to be present for as many day-to-day activities as you can. But don’t throw so-called quality time out the window, either. For example, you might set up a special night one or two times a month with each of your children; just you and them. Remember, once your kids are grown, the things you’ll miss the most are activities like throwing the ball and reading bedtime stories, so make some good memories now.

Cancel Your Gym MembershipNo, I’m not saying you should give up exercising, and of course, if you’re already a gym lover, continue going. But for newbies, start with something that’s sustainable. The truth is, many Americans purchase gym memberships, only to find their grand plans to take classes, work out daily, and lose weight don’t pan out. Usually, sooner rather than later, real life gets in the way, and not going to the gym becomes just one more thing to beat yourself up about.

The key to instilling any habit is to make it doable. So if exercise isn’t already a regular part of your life, start small.

Take a 20-minute walk every other day around your neighborhood … that’s it! You can work up from there if you want to. Also, try not to make physical activity all about weight as it has many other benefits. Exercise will make you feel more relaxed, stronger, more capable of handling life’s challenges, it will improve your sleep, and it’s a natural anti-depressant that will help your attitude and outlook.

Stop Obsessing Over Your HealthEverywhere we look, there’s a new medical threat to worry about. Sure, you can spend a lot of your time worrying about BPA in your water bottles, drug-resistant bacteria, or the likelihood of whether swine flu will overrun your community. Likewise, you can make appointments with specialist after specialist whenever you feel sick, and try every new vitamin, supplement, and protein shake on the market. But it probably won’t help as much as you hope! At the end of the day, you’ll never have ultimate control over everything you touch, breathe, and eat.

If you allow yourself to fret over every health threat you hear on the news or see on the Internet, you’ll be afraid to leave your house without a hazmat suit on. Just eat right, go to the doctor, and fit in as much exercise and relaxation as you can. If you don’t, all the worry and stress will be what ends up killing you!

Trash Your GoalsExcept for this one: Be happier! Much like striving for perfection, being too goal-oriented can harm more than it

helps. When you’re always focused on the “next big thing,” you’re perpetually anxious, you often forget to live in the present, and you’re never able to enjoy all the blessings you already have. Plus, taking a step back from “the plan” can bring some much-needed clarity. You may find the direction you’ve been headed isn’t what you want after all!

My breakdown, at the time, was horrible. But it really was the best thing that ever happened to me in the long run, for it forced me to literally drop all the things I’d been working on and to reevaluate how I was living my life. For the first time, I consciously realized my ‘successful’ life wasn’t making me happy. I promise you, when you prioritize your own happiness and well-being, you’ll be truly amazed by how smoothly everything else falls into place.

Believe me, being a ‘quitter’ can be a very smart move, as long as you’re leaving behind activities, habits, people, and responsibilities that aren’t enriching your life. Above all else, as you move through this year, take it from me, a successful life without happiness really isn’t successful at all!

far the one question that has intrigued and puzzled

me for as long as I can remember—the one that transcends the Who am I? What is my purpose? What happens after death? Who or What is God? questions—is this one: Where did I come from? For me, this has always been the truly big question.

When I think of the events that occurred and people that existed prior to my arrival on planet Earth in 1940, I’m intrigued by what determined my showing up at the precise time I did.

Where was I before my conception in 1939? What was I doing during the 12th and 13th centuries while the Crusades were taking place? Where was I in 2500 B.C. when the pyramids were being constructed? What or where was I millions of years ago before human beings began appearing on this planet, while the dinosaurs were roaming the Earth? Contemplating questions of this nature led me to study a fair amount of the science that explained how things come into form. While I’m by no means an expert in this area, this is what I’ve learned.

It is my understanding that quantum

physics regards this fact as scientifically unassailable: that at the tiniest subatomic level, particles themselves don’t originate from a particle. This means matter originates from something formless. Scientists call the formlessness that produces matter “energy.” This nonmaterial energy produced the particle that became who I am today. I think of this as a shift from energy to form, and I invite you to consider the shifts you’ve made to be who and where you are right now.

I think of the tiny little speck of human protoplasm that was my very first particle of humanity as being part of some kind of a “future-pull” that shifted into a fetus, and then into a baby, a toddler, a little boy, an adolescent, a young man, a mature adult, a middle-ager, and a person who has been alive for almost 70 years. All of those shifts were inherent in that originating energy that materialized as a microscopic particle and became me.

It’s beyond my ability to fathom how such a miraculous unfolding could take place in the formation of who I am as a physical being. But I do believe it transpired independently of my ability to do much about it other than simply observe my development. I am really and truly doing absolutely nothing. It seems truer to simply observe myself being lived by this all-creating energy that seems to do nothing, and at the same time leaves nothing undone. So where did that tiny little microscopic dot that was my first experience as a particle come from?

Remember that quantum physics tells us emphatically that particles do not come from particles. If we reduce that original particle to its subatomic status, it is smaller than chromosomes, atoms, electrons within the atoms—and even the sub-sub-subatomic particles called quarks. Scientists have placed a quark the size of my origination point into a particle accelerator revved up to 250,000 mph

and collided it with another quark. The result? Nothing was there. It appears nothing exists at the moment of the transition to something. Or, as I enjoy saying, “From nowhere to now here.” All that exists in the world of from is pure formless energy—no particles.

Modern phys ics conf i rms the metaphysics of Genesis, which tells us that everything came from God and it was all good. Similarly, the Tao Te Ching tells us that all being originates in nonbeing. Thus, the question of where we came from is answered similarly by physics and metaphysics. They both conclude we originated from something that has no form, no boundaries, no beginning, and no substance. We are all essentially spiritual beings having a temporary human experience. This is our essence. This is where we come from.

Understanding the answer to Where did I come from? involves, more than anything else, attempting to live from a perspective that’s in rapport with our original nature. We must become more like the spiritual nature of our origin. By recognizing the expression of Divine consciousness that is our physical being, we in turn make the choice of how to express that Divine spirit.

EnlightEning ViEwsBy Sophia Falke

Argh!!! Please, please do not tell me, again, how you cannot achieve your dreams because blah-de-blah, blah-de-blah, blah blah. I’ve heard it all before. The excuses are legion of why you cannot break through the challenges in your life.

How’s that for a “get in your face” opening? For those who have read my past columns, you know I tend to be direct. Last month I said, “It’s your choice: your ‘story’ or transformation.” Then I asked, “Which will you choose?” It’s something we must all look at when we find ourselves hindered from achieving our goals. Over the years I’ve discovered that wallowing in my story gets me nowhere. Better to move forward, even when I don’t know how.

Recently the old expression telling us to take action “or get off the pot” came to mind. (The expression is a bit more graphic, but I’m hedging for propriety’s—and the editor’s—sake.) This brings up several questions. What is it I want to do? How much do I want to do it? Do I want it badly enough to take whatever action is necessary—no excuses, no story of why it will never happen to/for me, and no prevarication?

2013 will be an awesome year for all of us! I can feel it in my bones. And no, it doesn’t matter who was elected to public office, what the economy is, or the appearance of turmoil in the world. It doesn’t matter what our current physical wellbeing, relationships, or finances are like. Nothing can keep us from experiencing the awesomeness of 2013—unless we let it.

Last month I gave you some tools for releasing the beliefs (your “stories”)

that hold you back. That was to clean out your mental, emotional, and spiritual closets to make room for something greater, to release the “good enough” to make room for awesome. This month, let’s look at some tools that will help fill your life with awesome.

First, get clear on what you want. Think HUGE! If you could have it all, what would “all” look like? Write everything down. Anchor your dreams in writing. In September, 2006, I was tasked with writing an 800-word statement of what my life would look like 18 months later. This action made it clear to the universe what it was to bring to me. Did I get it all? No, but I did accomplish a great deal of what I envisioned.

Second, once you have identified what you want, further anchor it by creating a set of S.M.A.R.T. goals. This is an acronym for Specific (what identifiable outcome do you want?), Measurable (you’ll know when you’ve reached

it), Achievable (but still a stretch), Relevant (to what’s important to you), and Time based (set a deadline). Write your goal in the present tense as if it has already happened. For example, “I am relaxing on the beach in Tahiti by July 1, 2013.” Or, “I am working in an exciting job that pays me $___ per week with supportive co-workers by August 15, 2013.” Post your goals where you see them daily.

Third, research and write down what is needed to reach your goal and what you need to do to be successful. How much will it cost? What will you have to learn or do? Who can help you? Where can you find the resources you need? What obstacles might you encounter? Write out an action plan. Who will you see, by when? How will you go about raising the money? What classes will you sign up for? etc.

Fourth, take action! As you address each action item, check it off. If it seems overwhelming, do the most important things first. Take baby steps if you need to. And if you become discouraged, remember these words by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. “If you can’t fly then run, if you can’t run then walk, if you can’t walk

then crawl, but whatever you do, you have to keep moving forward.”

Fifth, get support from positive, supportive people. If you’re associating with negative, defeatist people, find others who see you for the light that you are. Choose carefully, remembering the Biblical admonition, do not “cast pearls before swine.” Your dreams are too precious to be wasted on those who will not support you.

Sixth, feed your subconscious and conscious mind with positive aff irmations and inspirat ional messages from books, live seminars, CDs, and DVDs. When your mind is filled with infinite possibilities, there is little room for defeat.

2013 is an awesome year for us all, and I believe you have what it takes to achieve your dreams. Remember, “It is our duty—as men and women—to behave as though limits to our ability do not exist. We are co-creators of the Universe.” (Pierre Teilhard de Chardin)

ecently, much news was published about unsafe commercial pet foods. This news, of course, sounded an alarm among pet owners.

But, unfortunately, this problem isn’t really ‘news’. It seems that incidents similar to this occur from time to time. Perhaps this is one reason more and more people are opting to ‘home cook’ for their pets. However, in order to properly home-cook for your pets, you should first have a basic knowledge of canine nutrition; and, even more importantly, a thorough knowledge of human foods that are harmful to dogs. Some foods, which are safe for human consumption, can be poisonous for our canine companions. E-dog-training.com has put together a list of 25 common human foods that are toxic to dogs. Of course, when in doubt, always check with your vet. Here is a list to get you started:

1. Onions (Both onions and garlic contain the toxic ingredient Thiosulphate. But onions are more of a danger. Many dog biscuits contain *small* amounts of garlic – garlic contains less of this toxin so huge amounts would need to be consumed to be toxic. And, by the way, this poison builds up in the system; it can be toxic in one large dose – or with repeated consumption of small amounts.)

2. Chocolate (Chocolate contains Theobromine, a compound that is a cardiac stimulant and a diuretic. This can be fatal to dogs.)

3. Grapes (Grapes are dangerous because of an unknown substance which is toxic to dogs – affects canine’s kidneys.)

4. Raisins (See above.)

5. Most Fruit Pits and Seeds (Contain Cyanogenic Glycosides resulting in cyanide poisoning – though the fruit itself is OK.)

6. Macadamia Nuts (Macadamia nuts contain an unknown substance that is toxic to dogs.)

7. Most Bones should *not* be given (especially

25 Foods

chicken bones) because they can splinter and cause laceration of the digestive system and/or become lodged in your pet’s throat – so they also pose a choking hazard.

8. Potato Peelings and Green Potatoes (Contain Oxalates, which can affect the digestive, nervous, and urinary systems.)

9. Rhubarb leaves (see above.)

10. Broccoli (Broccoli is only toxic in large quantities.)

11. Green parts of Tomatoes or Green Potatoes (Contain oxalates, which can affect the digestive, nervous, and urinary systems.)

12. Yeast Dough (Yeast Dough can produce gas and swell in your pet’s stomach – leading to rupture of the digestive system.)

13. Coffee/Coffee Grounds and Tea (are dangerous due to the caffeine.)

14. Beer/Wine/Alcohol of any kind (Alcohol of any kind could lead to coma or even death.)

15. Human Vitamins (Human vitamins, especially those containing iron, can cause damage to the lining of the digestive system as well as cause kidney and liver damage.)

16. Moldy or Spoiled Food (though I think this goes without saying.)

17. Persimmons (Persimmons can cause intestinal blockage.)

18. Raw Eggs and Raw Fish (Raw eggs and some raw fish can cause Salmonella poisoning.)

19. Salt, Baking Soda, Baking Powder (In large amounts these can cause an electrolyte imbalance – and severe electrolyte imbalances can lead to

muscle spasm or even congestive heart failure.)

20. Mushrooms (Mushrooms may contain toxins which could cause liver and kidney damage.)

21. Sugar-Free Foods (Sugar-free foods containing Xylitol have been found to cause liver failure in some dogs.)

22. Nutmeg (Nutmeg can cause tremors, seizures, and central nervous system damage.)

23. Excessive Fatty Foods (Excess fatty foods can cause Pancreatitis.)

24. Avocado (All parts of the avocado and avocado tree are toxic to dogs.)

25. Diary Products (Dairy products don’t usually pose a great danger; but many dairy products have high fat content (see number 23) – and many pets are lactose intolerant – some pets more than others. Lactose intolerance leads to gas and diarrhea; though small amounts of yogurt and cheese are usually fairly well tolerated.)

Keep these 25 toxic foods in mind when cooking for your dog. There may be other foods that your dog cannot consume; so always ask your vet when you are unsure about anything concerning your pet.

• It takes only minutes for a pet left in a vehicle on a warm day to succumb to heatstroke and suffocation. On a 78 degree day, temperatures in a car parked in the shade can exceed 90 degrees -- and hit a scorching 160 degrees if parked in the sun!

• Dalmatian puppies are born pure white, with their spots develop as they mature.

• Bassets cannot swim. Their legs are too short to keep their heavy, long bodies afloat.

• There are 42 teeth in a dog’s mouth.

• A dog’s heart rate beats 70 to 120 times per minute. A human, 70 to 80 times per minute.

• Chocolate affects a dog’s heart and nervous system; a few ounces is enough to kill a small dog. • A dog’s sense of smell is about 1000 times stronger than a human.

• All breeds of dogs are pregnant for approximately 60 days (2 months).

• Female dogs that are spayed eliminate the chance of uterine infection, uterine cancer, and ovarian cancer.

• Male dogs that are neutered nearly eliminate the risk of perineal hernias and penile tumors.

• Dogs sweat through their pads and feet.

• The average dog lives about 15 years.

• Most dogs are lactose intolerant. You are better off avoiding milk in your dog’s diet.

• Dogs can hear high-pitched sounds (like some insects make), that a human cannot even detect.

• Tapeworms can lead to anemia in your dog.

• Dogs get heartworms from being bitten by ONE infected mosquito. (Heartworm meds are a MUST!)

• Beware; anti-freeze (ethylene glycol), the day-glo green colored fluid frequently seen near curbs, is very deadly to your pet if ingested.

• The coat of a Komondor consist of cords that form when the outer and inner coats cling together.

JuggleBalls

Imagine life as a game in which you are juggling some five balls in the air. You name them - work, family, health, friends and spirit and you’re keeping all of these in the air. You will soon understand that work is a rubber ball. If you drop it, it will bounce back. But the other four balls - family, health, friends and spirit are made of glass. If you drop one of these, they will be irrevocably scuffed, marked, nicked, damaged or even shattered. They will never be the same. You must understand that and strive for balance in your life. How?

• Don’t undermine your worth by comparing yourself with others. It is because we are different that each of us is special.

• Don’t set your goals by what other people deem important. Only you know what is best for you.

• Don’t take for granted the things closest to your heart. Cling to them as you would your life, for without them, life is meaningless.

• Don’t let your life slip through your fingers by living in the past or for the future. By living your life one day at a time, you live ALL the days of your life.

• Don’t give up when you still have something to give. Nothing is really over until the moment you stop trying.

• Don’t be afraid to admit that you are less than perfect. It is this fragile thread that binds us each together.

• Don’t be afraid to encounter risks. It is by taking chances that we learn how to be brave.

• Don’t shut love out of your life by saying it’s impossible to find. The quickest way to receive love is to give; the fastest way to lose love is to hold it too tightly; and the best way to keep love is to give it wings.

• Don’t run through life so fast that you forget not only where you’ve been, but also where you are going.

• Don’t forget that a person’s greatest emotional need is to feel appreciated.

• Don’t be afraid to learn. Knowledge is weightless, a treasure you can always carry easily.

• Don’t use time or words carelessly. Neither can be retrieved. Life is not a race, but a journey to be savored each step of the way.

Feature Story

The purpose for the ancients to erect the Sphinx is a matter of debate … new theories are starting to show the Sphinx has a connection

to the time of the equinoxes.

rom the megalithic stone structures to the secrets of the mystery schools, ancient Egypt has captivated people for centuries. Moses, Jesus, Plato and others have all been initiates of the Mystery Schools.

The Sphinx, the Great Pyramid, and other pyramids are located in what is called the Giza complex. No ancient land has been shrouded in as much mystery. Cracking the code of Egypt’s hidden secrets could rewrite history or reveal the meaning of life; the ultimate spiritual awakening.

For decades many avenues of research have been conducted, but the answers remain elusive to orthodox Egyptologists. Who built the Sphinx and why? Was the great pyramid built as a tomb or for some other purpose? The leaders of this ancient civilization did not record history, so there is no way to conclusively determine those answers.

There is an interesting pink granite slab between the paws of the Sphinx inscribed with a legend about a young prince’s dream and how it was fulfilled. While a young Egyptian prince slept in the shade of the Sphinx, he had a dream that the statue spoke to him. According to legend, the statue complained about the condition of its crumbling body buried under the sand. The statue called itself Horus-in-the-Horizon and promised the prince the throne in exchange for his help.

The prince became Pharaoh Thutmose IV after he freed the Sphinx from the encroaching sand. No one knows if the legend is true; however, it indicates a long-held belief in the Sphinx’s power and magical qualities. Visitors today stand in that same spot asking for favors from the Sphinx; hoping to capture some of its magical powers.

Great Sphinx of EgyptNothing can prepare you for what you will experience if you stand on the ground next to the Sphinx. It is the largest monolithic statue in the world. It is compared to a structure more than six stories high

and a city block long; this gives you a sense of its immenseness.

When someone looks at a picture of the Sphinx, it is easy to see a powerful, majestic aura emanating from it. However, there is no subst i tute for actually experiencing its energies. No one who experiences the Sphinx walks away from it without believing there is a higher power greater than his or her self.

Trying to describe the physical features is another puzzle. The face, battered from the weather and from vandalism, shows it is worn. The nose is missing and the face is chipped and flattened in sections. Some people think it looks like a pharaoh or a half-man half-lion statue, and still others believe it was once in the image of a jackal. Not to be clearly carved in one image makes it difficult to decipher its intended purpose. Since the ancient Egyptians were masters of riddles, could they have intended it to be a riddle?

The Sphinx is carved out of one piece of stone and not assembled piece by piece like the Giza pyramid. Traces of paint pigment have been found on the Sphinx in various places. The color red is on its face and the colors yellow and blue on its body.

Those colors could have some connection to the Mayans. The Mayans used colors to denote direction

and believed in three worlds: the underworld, middle world and upper world. Painting the Sphinx three colors could suggest the ancient Egyptians did it for similar reasons.

How old is the Sphinx? This is a controversial topic between mainstream Egyptologists, Archaeologists and alternative researchers. Orthodox Egyptologists and alternative researchers do not agree on the age of the Sphinx.

According to American Archaeologist, Mark Lerner, who has studied the Sphinx for nearly 40 years, the Sphinx dates back to the old kingdom in the 4th dynasty; during the rule of Pharaoh Khafre. The Old Kingdom began around 2600 BC and lasted about 500 years. This theory dates the Sphinx to be about 5,000 years old, which is the current and most popular theory by main stream Egyptologists. Mark bases his estimate on the analysis of the layers of stone slabs placed over the Sphinx’s crumbling surfaces.

However, there is another theory first offered by R.A. Schwaller de Lubicz, a French occultist known for his mystic Egyptology that contradicts the orthodox theory. According to Schwaller, he believed the Sphinx could have been carved before 10,000 BC because he observed water erosion surrounding the Sphinx, which he knew was not possible after 10,000 BC.

Another researcher and author, Anthony West, observed the same weathering on the Sphinx and attributed it to water damage. West knew that if this was true, then it would have had to occur before Egypt had an arid climate. Therefore, the date of the Sphinx had to be much older because rain was part of the weather pattern in Egypt before 10,000 BC.

Anthony West sought out a geologist, Dr. Robert Schoch, who accompanied West to Egypt to research the erosion. Geologists could determine the difference between sand and wind erosion compared to water erosion. Therefore, Robert Schoch, could end the controversy.

Although a skeptic, Dr. Robert Schoch explored Schwaller de Lubicz’s and West’s observations. Shocked by his research findings, Schoch confirmed the water erosion on the Sphinx and estimated its age to be between 5,000 to 7,000 years old, which confirmed the Sphinx was older than previously thought.

Planetary ConnectionsThe purpose for the ancients to erect the Sphinx is a matter of debate, but some very interesting theories have emerged. These new theories are starting to show the Sphinx has a connection to the time of the equinoxes. According to Wikipedia, an equinox

occurs twice a year when the tilt of the Earth’s axis is inclined neither towards or away from the sun. The center of the sun is in the same plane as the Earth’s equator. In essence, the length of day and night are about equal.

According to the research by Egyptologist, Mark Lerner, the temple walls around the Sphinx surrounded a court yard enclosed by 24 pillars that followed an east-west axis. Some of those remnants can still be seen in front of the Sphinx. According to Swiss Egyptologist, Herbert Ricke, he believed the axis followed the movement of the sun. The sun rises and sets at the March and September equinoxes and the Sphinx faces those equinox’s.

What is most intriguing is Lerner’s observations. According to Lerner, he observed a mystifying astronomical event. At sunset during the equinoxes, he observed the shadow of the Sphinx and the shadow of the pyramid merge as silhouettes. As he

Integrative Cardiology specializes in treating the heart from a body, mind and emotions perspective and in doing so; decreases the reliance upon using medication alone to help the function of the heart.

Since most medications have an average of 70 side effects and some up to 525, it makes good sense to treat the whole person instead of relying on medication to temporarily help the heart function when in the long run it can harm multiple systems, organs and glands. To heal the heart, people should focus on diet, supplementation, lifestyle and stress reduction. If these areas are balanced then working with an integrative cardiologist to analyze heart function and fine-tune it with low dose medication if necessary is the best of both worlds.

Cardiology is the field of diagnosing and treating conditions of the heart. Cardiologists’ primary avenue of treatment is medications and surgery. Now, add the word “integrative” and a whole new field is produced. Integrative cardiology is the treatment of the physical, mental and emotional aspects of imbalances affecting the heart. The treatment is not primarily with medication or surgery but instead with diet, supplementation and lifestyle changes. The field of integrative cardiology combines the best of both worlds: standard medical diagnosis and treatment with an alternative medicine mindset whose desire is to bring the heart function back into balance by treating the cause and not the effect.

diet Supplementation and Lifestyle ChangesResearch has proved that by consuming a 10 percent fat, whole foods, vegetarian diet, along with aerobic exercise, stress management training, smoking cessation and group psychosocial support produces regression of coronary atherosclerosis progressively over a five year period. In contrast, in the Standard American Diet control group, coronary atherosclerosis continued to progress and more than twice as many cardiac events occur.

Research has also supported incorporating supplementation of D-ribose, L-carnitine and coenzyme Q10 with cardiac risk patients. The researcher states “the integration of these metabolic supports provides the missing link in congestive heart failure treatment that has been eluding physicians for decades.”

Take an example of a person that has palpitations of the heart. This person thinks they have something wrong with their heart but the fact is some type of stress to the system causes most all of these symptoms. The most common stressors are diet, lack of sleep or emotional stress. When these are naturally balanced, the palpitations leave. Always remember what people do to the mind, they do to the body and vice versa. So if a person is under extreme mental distress, the heart will be affected. On the other hand, if a person is eating a lot of sugar, caffeine or food that they are reactive to like casein, gluten and eggs, the heart might also palpitate. Integrative cardiology always sees the heart as a part of the big picture, which is complete wellness.

An integrative cardiologist finds the underlying causes of health issues instead of trying to just make the symptoms go away. This doctor understands how the body and mind work together so their last resort would be medication and if medication were needed it would be the smallest dosage for the least amount of time with the fewest possible side effects. The goal would be to first seek to balance a person’s diet, supplementation and lifestyle along with mental and emotional stress factors and produce a whole person in every respect instead of only trying to alleviate symptoms.

a day. Clove works just as well so you could also substitute or use clove oil with oregano oil. Ginger, wormwood, black walnut are also commonly used in anti-parasitic strategies.

Fasting with fermented drinks such as fermented whey from grass-fed cows and fermented ginger, kombucha, coconut kefir, apple cider vinegar, etc. are powerful tools to help destroy parasites. Many holistic health coaches recommend a three

to 21 day low calorie, liquid diet that is rich in fermented beverages, water and fresh squeezed lemon. Probiotic supplements are highly recommended to help destroy parasites and re-inoculate the gut.

After the cleansing period, it is especially important to utilize high quality, fermented raw dairy and vegetables. Raw, grass-fed fermented dairy products like amasai, cheese and kimchi, sauerkraut, and fermented veggies should be used abundantly. These foods are rich sources of L-glutamine, an amino acid that helps rebuild the gut. These fermented foods also contain very powerful strains of good bacteria, organic acids and enzymes that act to keep parasites out of the body.

Parasites are living organisms that live off of a host organism. Parasites take and utilize the host organism’s nutrients and in so doing, hurt the host organism. Parasites take on a number of different forms and can thrive throughout the body. They most often live within the human intestines. Take action and cleanse your system of parasites naturally.

It is estimated that about 50 percent of Americans have an abundance of parasitic organisms in their gut. Parasites enter the human body through the air we breathe, the food we eat and the water we drink.

In third world countries, the most common way to encounter parasites is through contaminated water. Anyone traveling to a foreign country should be cautious in getting clean water. Poor sanitation and poor hygiene are the most common ways people encounter parasites. In America, parasites are spread through pork products, shellfish as well as contaminated food and water.

There are thousands of different types of parasites that are common to humans. Protozoa consist of a single cell and multiply in enormous numbers inside the human intestine. The most commonly found protozoic parasites are giardia, neospora, amoebae, toxoplasmosis, cryptosporidium and sarcocystis

Another form of parasite is the Helminth worm. This includes tapeworms, pinworms, hookworms, threadworms, roundworms and others. Many individuals doing a parasite cleanse will see the worms in their stools as they are eliminated from the body.

The body’s immune system goes after the parasites once they are identified. Often times, the parasites are extremely strong and multiply too quickly for the immune system to keep them at bay. Some of the most common symptoms associated with intestinal parasites include diarrhea, gas, bloating, flu-like symptoms, nausea, rashes, joint pain, chronic fatigue and chronic sinusitis.

destroy parasites in your body

Parasites love sugar and everything that turns into sugar. So the best way to starve the parasites is through using healthy fasting and cleansing strategies while eliminating as much sugar and grains as possible from the diet.

Several herbs and foods act as very strong anti-parasitic agents. Extra virgin coconut oil is loaded with medium chain triglycerides that enhance the immune system in its battle against pathogens. Raw garlic and onions provide sulfur containing amino acids that are anti-parasitic. Eat six tablespoons of raw, extra virgin coconut oil, one whole clove of garlic and one large red onion daily to help parasite proof your body.

Dried oregano and especially essential oil of oregano are extremely volatile and anti-parasitic. Use two to three drops of oregano oil in water with fresh squeezed lemon and drink this three times

For some of ud, it has been 20 YEARS or more since we experienced childhood pain and fear at “The Dentist!” In all those years, many of us have done a lot of personal growth work and experienced many life lessons. Still, our pain from childhood can doom the health of our teeth and gums, costing us more pain and money than we ever could imagine. So we avoid going and many times suffer thru dental pain and even embarrassing and unsightly tooth loss. All logic goes out the window and our fear conversation runs us!

Finally something becomes unbearable, so we go to a new dentist, hoping to find a path and move forward. At the appointment, as soon as we are seated, all of the old fears return and we barely make it thru the x-rays. We can only think about how horrible this visit is going to be and how we should not have waited so long. What is the matter with me that I cannot get over this illogical fear? We, at some level, understand to continue the same behavior and expect a different result is insanity.

When the dentist enters the room, many of us hear … “Hi, I am Dr. Pain, how are you today? Are you brushing and flossing every day?” Blah, blah, blah. Feeling bad about our juvenile fear we brave it thru the exam and hear very little that is said, as our mind is spinning about the hurting tooth and how bad it will be to get the teeth fixed, cavities filled, or who knows what horrible procedures. For the rest of our visit we cringe with fear. We live in our story about who’s fault it is and what our childhood dentist did to hurt us. Many even tell this new dentist, their childhood story which usually ends with, “I hate the dentist, no offense.”

We wait for the admonishing, the guilty verdict, and our sentence. There is nothing like seeing the facts in writing to make it real and several pages describing the condition of our mouth is to be expected, and it can be very overwhelming.

Now we are faced with how to choose a new behavior, get some perspective and help us realize the truth about our teeth and the treatments which can change our future … but HOW?

“The New Dentist” said a couple things which caught my attention. “First, stop blaming yourself for what you didn’t do, it is the past and we need to work together in the present moment.”

His next recommendation was “Sleep Dentistry.” This is where I would need a ride to and from my appointment and would take two little blue pills to help with my anxiety and allow me to sleep thru most of the treatment, or I could opt for IV sedation. Is this the path which some of us need to allow us to overcome our childhood fears? It could be. He said, “it had helped many of his patients and it would help me.” He suggested I could start repairing my mouth, one step at a time, or do it in a couple visits, whichever path was best for me. I made my appointment to have my worst tooth done one week later. My next visit would be for a crown and a possible root canal. I signed the documents explaining Sleep Dentistry and chose the two blue pills over the IV sedation. But I still was not sure I could follow thru … I was so stuck!

I realized there were two paths; The path I was on involved waiting for something in my mouth to hurt. This path clearly led to decayed teeth and challenging bad breath. I was constantly using mints and strong mouthwash. Also, I was hiding my teeth and not smiling freely, as I felt my teeth looked bad.

The second path, “Sleep Dentistry,” would take some intention, planning and commitment; it was the road less traveled for a dental phoebe like me. I knew this was the path which would lead to health and happiness, but could I do it?

A few days after I got home from my visit with “The New Dentist,” I woke up in a state, where my energy felt like it was bouncing around in my body, almost as though it was looking for a way to release something. Then I got it … I needed to release my old dentist from my childhood, “Dr. Pain”. It was there that I began my journey of healing.

hen we were children, Life handed us each a balloon. “Choose one” Life said. I picked a blue one. Blue like the

sky, the ocean; and I added a touch of pink like the sunset.

“Choose one” Life said. You chose your favorite color; black. Because we were not yet capable, life generously filled our balloons with helium.

Together we soared through life’s skies. Fascinated, we watched the clouds gather, felt the coolness of the rain. Then the thunder and lightning started. We panicked. But when my fear subsided, I knew that I would stay, take my chances.

You, on the other hand, found a crystal clear bottle and sealed yourself away. No one will be the wiser you thought…

So, while I floated through life’s skies and felt the chill of winter and the warmth of summer, you stayed in a constant mediocrity.

Then, one day it happened, my balloon was popped. I fell swiftly to the ground. “Look,” you said, “I am safe and you have foolishly been beaten.” You must have been amazed when I patched my balloon with brightly colored thread and filled it with a potent helium from within. This time I was a little bigger, a little stronger and I soared a little higher…

Were you jealous? Through the years, my balloon has been bruised, torn, punctured. Always I deflate. Always I fall to the ground. Always I patch myself. Some times I remove old patches to find that they have healed once open wounds…and all that is left is a small scar. But I treasure my scars, and I expose them proudly for they prove that I have taken chances; but more importantly, I have recovered from my falls…

One day I looked for you. For a moment I was filled with envy. While I was patching my balloon, yours was safe, secure. But then I noticed that the crystal clear glass of your childhood had faded. The wind, rain and summer sun had stained and marred the only view you had to the world. Carefully, I cleared a place on your bottle and tried to reach you. But you alone could let me in. You wouldn’t; or perhaps you couldn’t. This effort added yet another patch to my balloon. But as always, I colored it brightly; this time inscribing your name.

Before I left to again travel life’s skies, I scratched my name on your bottle. As much as it hurt, I had to return to the wind, rain and blue-black air….

Perhaps some day, if you free yourself, you will drift to my unpredictable skies. I will gladly meet you half way. I realize you don’t have the power to fly to my heights, but I could teach you. If you free yourself, I will gladly meet you half way…

But for now, I can only wonder how the world looks through a scratched and rain-stained prison…

Tell me my love - where are your patches? Your scars? And what will you do when the misty glass turns black and your bottle is sealed…forever?

I love about Eastern sciences of self-healing is their comprehensive approach to managing and understanding

the human experience. For example, in our accepted paradigm here in the West, “health” is considered the absence of illness. I cannot even begin to express how myopically offensive that is from an Eastern point-of-view. In reality, illness starts out very slowly, gradually moving out of balance with subtle energies that don’t even

register on most people’s awareness radar. From an Indian, Tibetan Ayurvedic and Chinese Medicine paradigm everything is energy in motion or in stasis. These sciences specialize in examining how the subtle energies that organize your body’s constitution are balanced:

• • • • • What and where are these energies too dry, too wet or too cold?

Already you can see the conversation is straying from the familiar allopathic confines of a numbers game: weight, blood pressure, cholesterol count, etc.

Very simply stated, the Eastern self-healing sciences see illness as having its origins in an energetic make-up that could preexist for years before any actual physical symptoms arise. From an Eastern understanding there are subtle energies that make up any living being, be it the planet itself, a vegetable, an animal or a human. In Ayurveda these energies are: Air and Space (Vata), Fire and Water (Pitta), and Earth and Water (Kapha); in Chinese Medicine they are Earth, Water, Metal, Wood and Fire.

Every living thing – animal, vegetable or mineral – has an energetic balance that is appropriate for its constitutional make up. This means some people have more Fire energy than others; some have more Earth energy; still others may have more Water or Air. Each living thing has a mixture of these energies that make up life in a unique formula that balances and supports that life form. In the same way no two people have the same fingerprints, every living thing is organized with an energy blueprint specific to their exclusive individual existence.

Let’s build on this idea of energies coming together in a specific manner that determines your unique life construction. The beginning of illness, again from an Eastern perspective, is where one or more of these energies that make up your life experience begins to accumulate in excess. A Fire predominate person would have the following proclivities: you eat lots of hot spicy foods; you love your beer and/or wine; you have a tendency to express yourself on the critical, impatient, irritated end of the spectrum; you like to wear a lot of red, orange and yellow colors. In order for you to be happy, things need to be done in a certain way: in a clearly defined time frame; life better be organized in a specific manner; you are perfection oriented and have a keenly honed eye for detail that must be met or there will be no rest. All these things provoke the Fire element in your unique energy constitution. If this Fire energy is continually stoked, provoked and generally inflamed, the subtle energy of Fire will grow and grow. Fire energy is expansive in nature, so it will steadily accumulate until there is an excess of Fire energy in your body’s constitution that cannot be maintained within the boundaries of balance and good health. (There may be more than just Fire involved too. For example, it may be Fire and excess Air energy that are building dramatically like a brush fire blown out of control by a strong wind.) They have now reached a level of aggravation to the body’s system and delicate point of energy balance. Bear in mind all this may be happening while the individual is still relatively symptom free. This is the time so many people go to their doctor feeling/knowing something is not right, but the doctor cannot find anything amiss or diagnose a pathology. “Sorry, your tests came back negative. There is nothing wrong with you.”

Once the out of balance energy or energies reach a level of profound and excessive accumulation, an aggravation flashpoint will occur. It is at this late stage measurable symptoms will begin to arise. Since the imbalance has become a full-blown malady, allopathic test results will come back positive and Western medicine can make a diagnosis. Better late than never I guess. The obvious advantage goes to the system of self-healing that can detect and respond to the energy or energies while still in accumulation mode; long before it reaches critical mass and becomes a health crisis. However, accumulation and aggravation are only part of the overall picture that addresses balance, illness and wellbeing.

Once an accumulated energy (or energies) moves into aggravation mode, the excess aggravated energy will then go into the body’s circulatory system and cycle around the body’s overall structure. This empowered accumulated/aggravated energy circulates until it finds a “defective” space within the body. The accumulated/aggravated energy will then deposit itself in the “defective” space. This is what is known in the Eastern systems of self-healing as the manifestation of a full-scale disease. So this raises the $64 million dollar question…what exactly is a “defective” space, and if you did not have any “defective” spaces would there be any inner fertile ground for disease to take root?

Let’s take these on one at a time. What is a defective space? This is where the mind/body connection comes to the forefront of discussion. A defective space starts in the mind; it is created by what we give our attention to and the emotions that arise as a result of that awareness. These Eastern systems of self-healing define us as a spiritual being having a human experience. They see us as inseparable from a force of consciousness that existed before we came here and took a body, and will continue to exist as consciousness after the body falls away. They do not take our spiritual identity out of the health equation. Western medicine, on the other hand, at no time even acknowledges us as anything other than a mechanism. They fail to address the mind, body, spirit connection that exists.

Socrates said it best: “The unexamined life is not worth living.” The purpose of all created life is to experience the truth of who we are, and to honestly examine what we are and why we are here. When we define ourselves as inferior, less than, not good enough, unlovable, worthless, disposable or powerless, we create a “defective” space in the mind/body energy configuration. The reason for this is because those thoughts are in direct opposition to who and what we are. They create a relationship of dis-ease between us and the truth that promotes balance and sets us free. Nature does not like a vacuum so when we give our power away and create a “defective” space, the pain, trauma and toxic energy that pushed us out, moves in.

When we love, accept and forgive ourselves for the learning experiences we agreed to go through and take on, in order to become self-realizing and self-aware, we heal these “defective” spaces in the mind and body. Self-loathing, self-judgment and criticism erode inner integrity and personal balance until it leaves a “defective” space in its wake.

There is nothing stronger than a fully realized being. Disease is a measurable, tangible state of being dis-at-ease with our conscious knowledge of ourselves, and the symptoms of that dis-at-ease state will ultimately manifest physically.

Obviously, everyone has entertained “defective” thinking to varying degrees. The objective of life in this planet Earth classroom is to grow beyond the habit

of giving attention to “defective” consciousness and return to a place of self-acceptance, ease and

wholeness. So to answer that $64 million dollar question: a “defective” space starts in the mind with attention given to an inner narrative based on a lack of self-acceptance, and then spreads to the body. If we did not have any “defective” spaces we would be immune to illness and disease…we also most likely would not be in the planet Earth classroom as there would

be nothing for us to learn here. That is why everyone here has to learn to grow beyond toxic thinking and has experienced illness to some degree.

Even if you disagree with the fundamental concepts and principles shared here, let me ask you something. What do you have to lose by accepting yourself? How is the quality of your life compromised in the least by extending love, compassion and forgiveness to yourself?

But you do not have to take my word for it. Examine your own life. When you are comfortable, relaxed and confident within your own skin…don’t you automatically feel better? At the end of the day you may not have full control over the amount of radiation, Gomes or environmental toxins you have been habitually exposed to, but you do have the last word on how you see yourself, define yourself, feel about yourself and what you tell yourself. And if the only thing you have any real control over is limiting the amount of defective space in your own mind so that you feel better about yourself and your life at the end of the day…what is that worth to you?

stood by the Sphinx, Lerner witnessed the shadows of the pyramid of Khafre and Khufu and the sun appeared to set midway between the two during the summer solstice.

For years mainstream Egyptologists believed the pyramids were built to be tombs to house dead kings. The chambers, hallways, tunnels and shafts inside the pyramids were thought to be built to deter grave robbers. No bodies, however, have ever been found in any of the pyramids.

According to the Orion Mystery and Egypt Code authored by Robert Blauval, clues connecting the pyramids to the stars were in plain sight but ignored by Egyptologists. For example, ceilings in chambers were decorated with stars, pyramid bases were in line to star alignments and writings on inside walls appeared to be a star religion.

Alternative researcher, Robert Blauval,

explored those signs and cracked a different code. According to Blauval, the three Giza Pyramids had a pattern that mirrored the three stars of the Orion Belt. On December 3, 2012 at pre-dawn those stars lined-up above the 3 pyramids, again, after almost 26,000 years.

His theories went even further in his book, the Egypt Code. He reveals his beliefs that there is a sort of cosmic Egypt in the geography of the Nile Valley. If true, visiting the Nile Temples makes it an even more powerful experience.

There is a Greek myth about a Sphinx that is commonly thought to pertain in some way to the Sphinx in Egypt. A Sphinx is a mythical creature and there are images of them throughout Egypt and in many other cultures. In Greece it was a female monster, but in Egypt the Sphinx was a benevolent male creature.

The Greek myth is about a Sphinx who guarded the city of Thebes who

wouldn’t let anyone pass unless the person could answer a riddle. The female Sphinx monster would kill the person unless it was the right answer. The correct answer to the riddle offers clues to the purpose of the Sphinx.

“What walks on four legs, then two legs, then three legs?” is the riddle of the Sphinx. According to the myth, Oedipus, answered, “man”, which correctly solved the riddle. Man walks on all four legs as a baby, grows up and walks on two legs, and then gets old and needs a walking stick; the ages of man. The Sphinx can be a monument representing evolution.

The ancient Egyptians believed study evolved consciousness and direct experience accelerated it. The mysteries drive the quest for answers, thus helping humanity to evolve by researching for answers. Could the actual mysteries be a higher plan, purposefully designed to challenge man’s thinking, so humanity could continue to evolve through the ages?

There is a curious inscription on the stone between the paws of the Sphinx. As stated in the book, The Secret History of the World, the inscription reads, “This is the splendid place of the first time.”

Standing between the paws of the Sphinx is the marker that sets the seeker on a course that accelerates consciousness. In keeping with the ancient’s philosophy there is no substitute for understanding the secrets of ancient Egypt than by directly experiencing its energies and magic.

Feature Story

On my life journey, wonderful coaches trained me to let things go. There was the remarkable realization that it does not serve me or feel good to carry negative things around anymore ie; pain, hurt, betrayal, deceit, lies, incompetence and ignorance. Somehow I did not realize that included “The Dentist.” I forgave so many people; anyone who has hurt me knowingly or unknowingly. I found in order to gain more freedom, peace and joy, I needed to forgive. Holding onto anger and fear affects every part of me. My physical, emotional, intellectual and spiritual self.

Somehow it slid by my awareness, as I felt like it was the dentist’s fault, and my emotions toward dentists seemed justified. Then I realized the dentist was not the only one I was angry with. I was angry at my parents for allowing me to be hurt. Am I saying that how he treated me as a child who was his patient was

Dear Dentist from My Childhood,Today I have given myself permission to tell you about my dental journey; my fears, my tears, my anxiety. The part of my life that you don’t know about, because it has been so many years, that you probably don’t even remember me or my name. I don’t really know your name either, I just call you “Dr. Pain,” or whatever bad name comes to mind.

The dentist who I met with last week was all set to become “Dr. Pain”. You see, I have you tangled up with anyone who has the title Dentist. But this new dentist actually suggested a way I might be able to have my dental treatment without all the fear and anxiety.

Today is the day I choose to forgive you and let you go! I forgive you for all the things you did which scared and hurt me; for the dentist you were and the dentist you were not and for anything that was said, done, not said or not done. I also forgive myself for all the anger, rage, and resentment … for the things I said, or did that hurt you and all the other dentists in any way. I also forgive myself for not going to the dentist and hurting my precious teeth.

I see now it is all fear based and today, I declare it is over... I am calling my new dentist, and allowing him to help me move forward with “Sleep Dentistry.” I will start, and do what I can do in one “Sleep Visit.”

It may not all be done in one day, but I am now free. I am free to someday have beautiful healthy teeth and stop dragging you, “Dr. Pain” with me on my life journey. You have been heavy to carry around and I am relieved to let you go and not reiterate my dental horror story again. Ever.

acceptable? No, that’s not for me to do! Today I realize that I am not the judge. With my words, I am relieving myself of my own pain and forgiving him for whatever part he took in it. My days of blaming others and living as a victim are behind me. It is time to move forward, own what is mine, and let go of what is not mine. In my adult life, I get to choose to be whole, happy and healthy; spiritually, emotionally, intellectually and physically.

I am excited about the beautiful healthy smile I now know is in my future!

When things go wrong, as they sometimes will,

When the road you’re trudging seems all uphill,

When the funds are low and the debts are high,

And you want to smile, but you have to sigh,

When care is pressing you down a bit,

Rest if you must, but don’t you quit.

Life is bizarre with its twists and turns,

As everyone of us sometimes learns,

And many a fellow turns about

When he might have won had he stuck it out.

Don’t give up though the pace seems slow,

You may succeed with another blow.

Often the goal is nearer than it seems

To a faint and faltering man;

Often the struggler has given up

When he might have captured the victor’s cup;

And he learned too late when the night came down,

How close he was to the golden crown.

Success is failure turned inside out,

The silver tint of the clouds of doubt,

And you never can tell how close you are,

It may be near when it seems far;

So stick to the fight when you’re hardest hit

It’s when things seem worse that you mustn’t quit.

DON’’T QUITAuthor Unknown

Here’s an oldie that reminds us, we must always move forward in life and not ever give up the journey.

Did you know that theNew Year Celebration in the Western world is only 400 years old?

Did you know Emancipation Day or Jubilee Day was signed on January 1, 1863, freeing all slaves from bondage?

Did you know “Auld Lang Syne”, written by Robert Burns, published in 1796, has been called the most familiar song to which nobody knows the words? Title means, “Old Long Time.”

Did you know Egyptians used a human baby to symbolize the new year? Early Christians disapprove; Greek mothers around 600 B.C. were not in favor; however, objections were overcome and the symbol remains one of the most popular.

Did you know dropping of the New Year’s Eve ball in Times Square, New York City first began in 1907? The original ball was made of iron and wood; the current ball is Waterford Crystal, weighs 1,070 pounds, and is six feet in diameter.

Did you know noisemaking and fireworks on New Year’s Eve originated in ancient times to dispel evil spirits and bring good luck? The Chinese are credited with inventing fireworks.

Did you know Babylonians began celebrating New Year’s around 4000 B.C. with the first new moon after the Vernal Equinox? This tradition lasts eleven days. During this period the Monarchy was stripped of power, suffered humiliation and separated from his people for three days to pray. Upon his return, restoration ceremonies were enacted so nature would support the king in the coming year.

Did you know 2013 in China is the year of the snake…February, 2013 to January, 2014? Traditions include, Red Envelopes with “lucky” money given to children, single adults and the elderly. People usually wear red for happiness and good fortune. Firecrackers and noisemakers were thought to chase evil spirits away. The New Year is celebrated for 15 days.

Did you know in Denmark the more broken dishes in front of a residents door is considered to have the most friends? All this takes place during New Year.

Did you know an ancient European custom, called “First-footer”, is still practiced? A First-footer is a dark haired male (blondes were considered bad luck) that was the first house guest of the

year who brought a gift for good luck. A coin or coal represented prosperity, salt was for flavor, bread indicated food for the kitchen and spirits or whiskey for the head of the household represented good cheer. Without the traditional gift, he was not allowed in.

Did you know in Ireland blowing wind is used to predict the country’s political future. If on New Year’s Eve at midnight, the wind comes from the west, good fortune; from the east however, the British prevails. Mistletoe, used to ward off bad luck, was also given to young maidens for under their pillows in the hopes of dreaming about their future husbands.

Did you know in Japan, a week before the new year, the house must be cleaned so no evil spirits linger, all debts paid, and all disagreements must be resolved and forgiven. Before midnight, 108 bells ring to symbolize the elimination of 108 troubles; bringing expectations of peace and prosperity.

Did you know Madeira, a Portuguese island, is known for its spectacular fireworks and is recorded in the Guinness Book of Records for having the most lavish New Year’s party. In 2009, the government spent 12,000,000 Euros to make the most spectacular celebration in the world.

Did you know in Spain, the ritual on New Year’s Eve is to eat twelve grapes with each stroke of the clock before midnight representing twelve happy months in the coming year. Special cakes, baked in the form of a big ring, would be prepared with good luck charms and gifts inside. Find a charm or gift, you were considered to have luck the rest of the year.

Did you know in Wales the back door of the home is opened and immediately closed during New Year’s Eve; thus symbolizing the releasing of all bad luck of the old year. At the 12th toll of the clock, the door is re-opened to welcome the New Year with all its goodness, luck and prosperity.

ARIES • Mar. 21 to Apr. 19You continue to strive for independence, and to accept the sudden changes that affect your connection to the world. You are a leader. Determine where you are going and others will follow. Relationships are changing; your needs of them and their needs of you.

TAURUS • Apr. 20 to May 20This is a major decision time in your life. Do you go on doing things your way and not making necessary changes in your life? Try something different. You’ll find that you can accomplish so much more when connected with others, do things as a group effort.

GEMINI • May 21 to June 20You have some bad memories of a past situation that went very wrong, and you are terrified of repeating the same mistake. Someone close to you is proposing some action. Face your fear, and see the opportunity that is realistically there. Let go of the past and go forward.

CANCER ~ June 21 to July 22A lot can be accomplished by your actions at this time. Changes in work or business can be sudden and exciting. It is all up to you. Past unrealized opportunities can be lifted from the dusty shelf to which you relegated them and might work out this time. Partners are a part of this change.

LEO ~ July 23 to Aug. 22Powerful changes are manifesting; operating at your very foundations of your core beliefs you have based life on. You have decisions to make that are life altering. You can either go with your long held goals or go in a swift change and a totally different direction.

VIRGO ~ Aug. 23 to Sept 22You will find yourself able to make a big difference and get things moving in a significant way if you face your fears. Use your ability to speak the truth. Suppress your need for perfection, stand up and be counted; whether in the job or in relationships. Unblock the conflicts that are holding you back.

LIBRA ~ Sept. 23 to Oct. 22After two years of Saturn in your sign, you are finally free. The pressure is off you. Now you can see big results and all kinds of opportunities opening up. Sudden changes from or through partners will make life much more enjoyable. Long term changes are going to happen fast.

SCORPIO ~ Oct. 23 to Nov. 21You are at the height of your personal year with the added bonus of having the discipline of Saturn in your sign. This is not the time to do the same old thing. It is all about choices and making the ones that are best for you and your security.

SAGITTARIUS ~ Nov. 22 to Dec. 21Big questions will come up that cause you to look in new directions. Your strongest direction at this time would be to look inside and transcend. Base your search on some old ideas that you never followed up on in the past, and much will be open to you within a short time.

CAPRICORN ~ Dec. 22 to Jan. 19You need a partner or partners at this time to get the right things moving for you now. The key to opening the door is realizing all that is available. One asks you to consider who you are responsible to, and another warning you not make the same mistake again.

AQUARIUS ~ Jan. 20 to Feb. 18Do you use rational and practical logic, or do you follow your inner guidance, your intuition, to find the best course? There is more than one direction you can go in. Find someone who shares your values and who has the resources, aims, and same goals as you and the door will open.

PISCES ~ Feb. 19 to March 20Yours is always the conflict between logic and intuitive abilities. But the end result and direction will be emotional and not logical. The paradox is that at this time you actually need to be rational and logical to get to where you want to be. Stay balanced and take small steps to increase your rational and logical.

Independent, steady as a rock, Capricorn reflects earthly qualities that range from clever or foolish. Mostly cautious, confident, strong willed, reasonable and hard working, Capricorns are the rock upon which to build.

Often aloof, shrewd, practical, responsible and persevering, they are capable of great endurance, reliable in any profession they

undertake, yet lacking in originality. They usually excel in following up on what someone else has started. Within a prescribed area, Capricorn is a resourceful, practical manager with high standards for themselves and others. They are self-critical and work well in disciplined environments…demanding equal measure from their subordinates. A careful ambitious planner, Capricorn moves forward with quiet, deliberate persistence. They can be frugal; possessing the ability to achieve results with minimum effort and expense. Highly organized, they excel in managing several projects simultaneously. Once attaining control, they are demanding and exacting in leadership. They value tradition, have very close friends they look to as family. Family usually comes first, except where business is their primary concern.

Rather self-centered, they are wary and suspicious of others. They often have few close friends, but indifferent and sometimes callous to those outside their circle. They can also demonstrate stubborn, overbearing, argumentative, unforgiving, inhibited, fatalistic, and condescending traits. Their best position is one that exalts their exercise of the desire for authority and organization. Sometimes Capricorns can lack self-confidence, making them extremely defensive because deep down they fear rejection or ridicule from others. Capricorns also can hold a grudge for a life-time. They make excellent friends, and their loyalty is without question.

Personal message from Mystic Clarice Barrett, Msc. D.Hello Stargazer’s. The last couple of months have not been good for the world. For the first time in twenty years, I find there are too many aspects and formations to even begin to list and interpret them for you. But, I will deal with the main focus of Light. The Sun (consciousness) in Scorpio (death and rebirth) merges with Saturn (lessons, responsibility). They are both in conjunction with the Moon (past) and Jupiter (opportunities), both in Gemini (connections), and conjunct Uranus (self-image,

sudden changes) forming a Yod recently Dec. 21, 2012, and requiring decisions. The Moon is one part of the T-squares whose release point is taking responsibility. Now we must stay positive, keep our faith and move forward with new beginnings. Happy New Year and Good Luck!

LUNAR ACTIVITY: Full Moon: Jan. 26th in Leo; New Moon: Jan.11th in Capricorn; Last Quarter Moon: Jan. 4th in Libra; First Quarter Moon: Jan. 18th in Taurus. Jupiter is back direct Jan. 31st.

Note: The year holds good progress in comparison to previous years. 2013 starts off slow but increases with the action of launching new projects. You might do certain things on an impulse provided by the planet Saturn which would eventually turn out to do well. The focus will be to break free from obstacles and gain independence and freedom. The planetary positions encourage you to make an effort towards achieving your long awaited goals. You will also have to believe in yourself to acquire things within your control.

A horoscope plays a vital role in one’s life. Every person wants to forecast their future either scientifically or spiritually. It cannot be said this urge has emerged in recent years. This is something our ancestors also tried to predict. From that, ancient sages and holy people discovered something hidden in a person’s horoscope, known as “esoteric knowledge”; which can provide a complete forecast of the future. With the help of a good astrologer you can acquire knowledge about situations, either happiness or adversity, which may be coming up in the near future, and then correlate your mind accordingly. . We cannot direct the winds but you can adjust your sails.

The Life Path is the sum of the birth date of an individual, and remains throughout your life. This number represents who you are at birth and the native traits that you carry with you through life; no individual has the same fingerprints, so, by adding your numerology number to your astrology sign makes you a totally unique individual. In numerology you have three primary numbers, your Life Path, Day and Attitude numbers. As you figure out your numbers, read all three to get a complete picture

How To Find Your Life Path NumberTo find this number add all the numbers in your birth date. First, convert the month to a single number, and then add this individual digit, to the birthday, and the individual digit of the birth year. The individual digits are again added together, as necessary to reduce the total sum to a single digit 1 through 9. In this column I am not covering your personal year number, only for each month how your basic birth number is affected. If you are interested in the year number 1 through 9. You would add your month and day together to a single digit, and then add it to the existing year, to know the year number you are in.

Example: Date of Birth: February 8, 1939 (2-8-1939). Add the month (2) to the day (8) plus the total of the digits in the year, (2-8-22 = 32 = 5.) The Life Path number is 5. To get the attitude number you add the month to the day to a single digit. This person’s numbers are: Life Path 5, Day 8, and Attitude number is 1.

For your convenience I’ve listed the basic meaning to the numbers below; this will also help you know what numbers you are compatible with.

The Basic Numbers and their Meaning1-5-7 Are the mental numbers, they ask the big questions in life.2-4-8 Are the financial numbers, they are concerned with security issues.3-6-9 Are the communication/creative numbers.3-4-7-9 Are the Spiritual numbers, the numbers 4 & 7 are the genus numbers, and covers all talents.

January is the number 1 vibration ruled by the Sun. January is the month of Capricorn ruled by Saturn. You are persuasive, expansive and determined. You have talents that can bring success if you avoid scattering energies. Stay focused on your goals and priorities; avoid excesses, especially since Jupiter went retrograde last October 5th until January 31th. This month the number 1 vibration is the release point as our current energy pattern lies through other people, but more so for

Heard about acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine? For over 3,000 years, oriental medicine has been an effective system of healthcare for naturally treating acute conditions and as a preventive strategy. A qualified practitioner can detect a pattern of disease long before the symptoms manifest by asking the right questions, physical examination, observation of the tongue and pulse diagnosis. If you are taking prescription drugs and tired of the disturbing side effects while just masking your illness symptoms, call and learn how the natural approach of acupuncture and herbs can help prevent and treat your current condition(s). Mystics spoke of my destiny to become an extremely powerful healer, of thousands of people. I was to serve as a vessel for Spirit Beings to purify people of dis-ease. I studied many spiritual, energy modalities. I met two women whose spiritual journeys duplicated mine. Our gifts of healing were multiplied by the sacred number three. In gratitude, we became The Healing Trinity. We offer classes, mystic counseling, private and group healing sessions for your four bodies. We celebrate your divine nature, as we support your enlightenment and ascension. This is our divine path, for which we are uniquely qualified. www.TheHealingTrinity.com. See page 21
