During this season of Thanksgiving, Concerned Women for America of North Carolina stands united with “prayers of petitions, supplication and thanksgiving made on behalf of all those in authority … to come to a knowledge of the TRUTH” (I Timothy 2:1-4). Prayerfully consider participating in the National Day of Prayer, Repentance and Fasting on November 17 (see flyer on page 6).
Your prayers, your action in taking time to contact legislators, and your vote in elections are the battle weapons for restoring God’s righteousness to our land in the days ahead. The following foundational core issues--the family, sanctity of life, education, pornography, religious freedom, national sovereignty and marriage as defined

State Legislative Update - Vigilance to Protect Marriage in North Carolina Sen. James Forrester fought for eight years for the passage of the North Carolina Marriage Amendment. The North Carolina General Assembly passed Senator Forrester’s bill on September 12, 2011. It ensures that the people of
North Carolina have an opportunity to vote next May on the definition of marriage as between one man and one woman. Sen. Forrester said just after the final legislative vote in September, “If people reject it and say, ‘no, we don’t want this in
the constitution,’ then I’ll live with it.” He said the bill wasn’t designed to single out gays and lesbians. “It was just something I thought we needed to do to continue to have a strong family structure here in North Carolina.”
You can make a difference: Pray God will open the eyes of His people called by His Name to pray and to vote for the passage of the North Carolina Marriage Amendment next May.

Take Action by writing letters to the editor on this topic. If you decide to do so take note of the following: Extensive and repeated
polling agrees that the single most effective message is "Gays and Lesbians have a right to live as they choose; they don't have the right to redefine
marriage for all of us." Language to avoid at all costs is "Ban same-sex marriage." It causes us to lose about ten percentage points in polls. Instead,
say we're against "redefining marriage" or in favor of "marriage as the union of husband and wife,” not "banning same-sex marriage."
National Legislative Update Protect Life Act Last month we celebrated a pro-life victory in the House of Representatives. The House voted 251-172 to pass the Protect Life Act (H.R. 358) which would ensure that ObamaCare does not fund abortions. Despite bipartisan support for this important legislation, President Obama has already indicated that he will veto the Protect Life Act. You can make a difference: Pray God will move the hearts of our senators to stand up for the unborn, those who do not yet have a voice. Pray that the Lord will open the eyes of our government to see that the protection of life is of utmost importance. Take Action by calling Sens. Burr and Hagan at
202-225-3121 and ask them to cosponsor and
support the Protect Life Act (S.877). Call the White House comment line at 202-456-1414 and ask President Obama not to
veto this bill if it comes before him. ObamaCare ObamaCare has created a new Independent Payment Advisory Board (IPAB) of 15 unelected bureaucrats who will make decisions which could severely restrict seniors’ access to treatments and medications, and reduce Medicare payments to doctors. While there is opposition to IPAB and a bill in Congress to repeal IPAB, we need to push Congress to repeal all of ObamaCare. Click here to read Dr. Janice Crouse’s
paper Rationing the Life Out of You. Republicans have also introduced legislation to repeal the CLASS Act (Community Living Assistance Services and Supports program), which President Obama has said he may veto, despite the program’s unsustainability. You can make a difference: Pray God will open the eyes of our President and Congress to the dangers
of ObamaCare. That children and seniors will not bear the brunt of this new law. Take Action by calling your representative and senators at 202-
225-3121 and urge them to repeal ObamaCare in its entirety. Click here to find out who your Members of Congress are.
Call the White House comment line and express your opinion at 202-456-1414. ObamaCare is a costly entitlement program that we simply cannot afford.

For those who believe Islamist ideology, “Islam is not merely a religious doctrine, but a comprehensive socio-economic and political system.”1 Our “enemy is Islamism, and its operatives — whether they come as terrorists or stealth saboteurs — are the purveyors of sharia, Islam’s authoritarian legal and political system.”2 Again, “In Islamist ideology, sharia is deemed to be the necessary precondition for Islamicizing a society — for Islam is not merely a religious doctrine, but a comprehensive socio-economic and political system.”3 In short, according to Andrew McCarthy and other experts, Islam is considered by Islamists to be “a
comprehensive socio-economic and political system” for which imposition of sharia is a “necessary precondition for Islamicizing a society” and sharia itself is “Islam’s authoritarian legal and political system.”
According to former Speaker Newt Gingrich, sharia’s “foundational premise is anti-American, holding that we are not free people at liberty to govern ourselves irrespective of any theocratic code, that people are instead beholden to the Islamic state, which is divinely enjoined to impose Allah’s laws.”4
“Sharia, moreover, is anti-equality. It subjugates women and brutally punishes transgressors, particularly homosexuals and apostates. While our law forbids cruel and unusual punishments, Gingrich observed that the brutality in sharia sanctions is not gratuitous, but intentional: It is meant to enforce Allah’s will by striking example.”5
Islamists teach that “Only by returning to the Islam of the founders could the umma -- the Muslim Nation -- reverse its political, economic and social torpor. This would require faithfully implementing the divine law, sharia.”6
Sharia is a comprehensive system governing all of life:
Women are considered second-class; their testimony in court is half that of men.
Men may strike women who are disobedient.
Punishments may include flogging and stoning.
Nations under sharia law may restrict women from driving, from voting or from education.
In Saudi Arabia, women recently earned the right to vote, but still may not drive or leave their homes without a male relative.7
In Saudi Arabia, religious police prevented firefighters from rescuing school girls when their dormitory caught fire because they were not dressed according to Islamist requirements. The incident created an outcry even within the Kingdom.8
Wall Street is becoming enmeshed in sharia. “Sharia-compliant finance (SCF) is expanding among banks and securities houses eager to absorb the hundreds of billions of petrodollars.... To lure this cash, financial companies increasingly offer vehicles that neither pay interest nor benefit from gambling, entertainment, alcohol, pork, or anything considered ‘haram’ or ‘un-kosher’ in Islam. […] Selling sharia-compliant investments legitimizes a barbaric theocratic orthodoxy that should be defeated, not promoted.”9
Sharia permits executions for apostasy and blasphemy, http://www.humanevents.com/article.php?id=38347.
You can help make a difference: Join CWA in supporting H.R. 973, a bill by Rep. Sandy Adams (R-Florida) to prevent the misuse of foreign law in Federal courts.

National Day of Fasting, Repentance
& Prayer
Thursday, November 17, 2011
We at Concerned Women for America of North Carolina are joining with thousands throughout the nation for a
National Day of Fasting, Repentance and Prayer for America on Thursday, November 17 - one week before Thanksgiving.
The Thursday before we feast, let us fast and prepare our hearts. Before we get caught up in the season of busyness,
let us be grateful and prepare for Advent.
Election year is coming; let us turn partisan prayers into prayers of per-sonal repentance. When we ask for God’s mercy for our country,
let us ask His forgiveness for our sins as individuals.
It is time to stop pointing fingers and start bending our knees.
“If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways,
then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.”
II Chronicles 7:14
Join with us as we repent and seek God on behalf of our nation. Pray that North Carolina will define marriage as
between one man and one women.
We wish you and yours a blessed Thanksgiving season!
