Dearest Reader,You are about to venture through a collection of poems selected by yours truly.

I commend you on venturing so far as to find this treasure, for it has been cloaked with a glamour so as no human could see it with ordinary eyes. I hope it is everything you have ventured to obtain and more....

I have chosen many poems. Such as the lyrics to Skillet’s “Monster” which I have found quite amusing (that is, to hear the agony within it). There are other such poems which I have chosen (“Monster Within”, “It’s time to Feed My Monster”, “Monsters”, “His Monster” and “I created a Monster”) for their delicious darkening tone to show how monsters aren’t the furry little creatures we used to adore. For monsters are such dreadful things, and ignorance to that is not a laughing matter.

However, since I have satisfied myself to no end picturing your thoughts at those tantalizing pieces of melancholy, I have left a couple of light hearted poems for you as well. The “I’m Not Afraid of the Dark” and “Scary, Fat and Giant Monster” have been selected for their humorous side. For you see, dear reader, as much as we can dwell on how horrible monster is, it only becomes as horrifying or silly as we allow ourselves to make it.

Monster by SkilletWritten by: Brown, Gavin, Cooper and

John Landrum

The secret side of me, I never let you see. I keep it caged but I can't control it. So stay away from me,

the beast is ugly. I feel the rage and I just can't hold it. It's scratching on the walls,

in the closet, in the halls. It comes awake and I can't control itHiding under the bed, in my body, in my headWhy won't somebody come and save me from this, make it end?I feel it deep within, it's just beneath the skinI must confess that I feel like a monsterI hate what I've become, the nightmare's just begunI must confess that I feel like a monsterI, I feel like a monsterI, I feel like a monsterMy secret side I keep hid under lock and keyI keep it caged but I can't control it'Cause if I let him out he'll tear me up, break me downWhy won't somebody come and save me from this, make it end?

I feel it deep within, it's just beneath the skin. I must confess that I feel like aMonster. I hate what I've become, the nightmare's just begun. I must confess

that I feel like a monster

I feel it deep within, it's just beneath the skinI must confess that I feel like a monsterI, I feel like a monsterI, I feel like a monster

It's hiding in the dark, it's teeth are razor sharpThere's no escape for me, it wants my soul, it wants my heart

I feel it deep within, it's just beneath the skinI must confess that I feel like a monster

I feel it deep within, it's just beneath the skinI must confess that I feel like a monster

I, I feel like a monsterI, I feel like a monsterI, I feel like a monsterI, I feel like a monster

No one can hear me scream, maybe it's just a dreamMaybe it's inside of me, stop this monster

I hate what I've become, the nightmare's just begunI must confess that I feel like a monster

I've gotta lose control, he something radicalI must confess that I feel like a monster

I’m Not Afraid of the DarkBy Kenn Nesbitt

Oh, I'm not afraid of the darkness.

I don't mind an absence of light.

I can't say I'm scared of the sunset

or things that go "bump" in the night.

I've never been frightened of monsters or tentacles under my bed.

Not skeletons, witches or goblins or creatures come back from the dead.

I'm not at all worried of werewolves,

or even a vampire's bite.

I'm simply not scared of the darkness,

except when you turn off the light.

Monster WithinBy Anonymous

I look into the mirror and see the eyes of the monster

That is within meIt sometimes shows itself to the outside

worldI am not proud of myself when that side Is shown of meIt is nothing but complete anger And will hurt anyone who is nearThe monster has a mind of its ownIt is tries to fight its away outTo the surface and eats away at my soulEach time it winsIt is hard to hide the monster these daysMy heart has become weakAnd can barely hold it backI am trying to stand up on my own againBut it has found reinforcementsI will soon be free of the monster forever

It’s Time to Feed my MonsterBy Toni Brittoni

It's time to feed my monster,How shall he dine today? Will he feast on little

greenbacksAnd spend it all at play? But when the purse is empty,Will his endless void be filled? And quiet my little monster's

rageTill his wrath at last be stilled. Oh what shall I feed my

monster,Perhaps he hungers flesh?A desire to be held and lovedAnd made to feel his best.Though lust is just a

substitute,It's true love that he desires. What a twisted way of

thinkingMy monster's thoughts

acquire!

You selfish little monster,It's me that you'll destroy.Remember it's I who feeds youAnd gives you all that you enjoy.Just look how big that you've become,What gratitude is this? And now you seek to rule my life?Tomorrow I'll resist. If I could tame my monsterAnd have his needs be met,He'd be just like a child at playAnd not some angry pet. What peace and joy would I too knowWithout one slight regret. But for now I feed my monster...Tomorrow's not here yet.

"Nay!" says my little monster."Today I dine aloneAnd feast on all that's in my graspUntil the food is gone. And should one attempt to stop me,Them too will I devour! So depart and leave me to myselfTo feed my pain this hour".

Scary, fat and Giant MonsterBy Anonymous

There is a giant monster somewherenear the Indian sea.It is as fat and furry andas scary as can be.

It has three funny looking hornsand one eye on its head. Its claws are sharp and spikyand its eyes are crimson red.

Were it to jump up 10 miles highand fall down with a ‘BOOM!’The whole Earth would then shake and shakewe’d think we were at doom.

If you throw it an onion itwould stand there and just cry.The noise would break some glassesand the folks would say, “Oh my!”Beware folks, for it’s coming to youright this very now.The giant monster knows exactlywhere you live, somehow.I’m gonna tell you the best thing yetwhich is quite contrary:The scary, fat and giant monsteris imaginary.

His MonsterBy Daniel Scores

His Monster

Stone by stone

He built it round

Alone he stands

Towering Walls

Surround its heart

And through its hallsAlone he

walks

He hides his hurt

Deep in its heart

And walls it off

With words of steel

His Hatred

I Created a MonsterBy Barbara Combs Williams

I created a monsterFrom such a tiny little

thingI fed it till it couldn’t

standIt reigns now, a mighty

kingI created a monsterI gave it a mighty big

nameIt had no meaning

whatsoeverUntil I made it take the

blameI created a monsterI let loose on all my foeThey never had a chance

to crySlaughtered like an

innocent doeI created a monsterWith sharp angry yellow

teethIt bit them hard, then

swallowedLike tender, succulent

beef

I created a monsterI didn’t want to try

For now I know this monster

Has become me, by and by

I created a monsterIt controls me more

every dayI can not take back the

harm I didI must carry on this way

I created a monsterSome call it lies and

deceitIt has overtaken my

mindI now do its bidding, I am

weakI created a monster

I feel shame and remorse

Mankind will suffer greatly

I no longer control its course

I created a monsterI let it loose on the landIt’s in your hand to turn

itFrom its hated, terrible

plan

The Immortality of a Monsterby Anne-Marie Pettie

Like fire roaming in your veins,Like a gentle caress upon your cheek,

Like the earth breathing after the rainfall,Like the kiss of a tear soaring past your cheek,

Like the fist gasping breath when the nightmare is shattered,Like the trembling power of the great thunder's roar,

Like the echo of a voice in a house untouched by time,Like the tender embrace of one close to your heart,

Like the cold air licking your lungs when morning is chilled,Like the smile that touches the corner of your lips when memories pass,

Like the first line on a page of possibilities,Like the bursting laughter in a moment of surprise,Like the power of a crescendo in a great symphony,

Like the first moment you cradle a newborn,Like the thrill of swiftly passing your finger through a flame,

Like the music of crickets as darkness falls,Like the magic of a firefly dancing in the night,The immortality of a monster is unbreakable.

Monster MindedMost, yes most, would not

dare to thinkI did indeed think to hurt

you deeplyNot only thought but dared

to planDo you think me terrible?

Even I myself think it soDon’t you know that I’m

‘monster minded’?

Most would not dare to think thisOne could barely ponderNot knowing it descended upon meStill I think these gruesome thoughtsTo make you cry, to scream or breakEntirely these thoughts consumedRight in that moment asyou called me “friend”

Truth

The mirror is broke....Or maybe the face inside,When darkness seeps inThe monster comes out to

play,Or maybe the truth is

seen....
