MONDAY, JULY 29TH
AT 10:30
AM, IN THE LIBRARY, THERE
WILL BE A MEETING TO
DISCUSS THE 2019-2020
SCHOOL YEAR.
Those who wish to volunteer,
please plan to attend.
Ninety-four years ago on a farm south of
Midland, a daughter was born to the Locklar
family. She was the couple’s third child and only daughter. They
named this daughter “Eddie Louise.” Other than relatively brief
stays in Grand Falls and in Big Lake, Eddie Lou has lived all her
life in Midland. Eddie Lou’s two older brothers passed away at
an early age, one being killed in a farm accident at age sixteen,
and the other losing his life during World War 2. Her younger
brother passed away in 1985.
Eddie Lou’s husband, Leonard J. Huff, was reared on a ranch in
Ector County near Goldsmith. He passed away in 1992. Their
two daughters, Carolyn Richard and Cindy Bradley, both live
near Eddie Lou’s house south of town on the Rankin Highway.
Eddie Lou’s formal education came at Cotton Flat School,
Cowden Junior High School, and Midland High School. Her
widowed mother also saw that she attended Abilene Christian
College. Eddie Lou enjoyed a long career with a local company
that drafted oil field maps. Charles Pruitt says that when he
started his very first job in Midland with a mapping company, it
was Eddie Lou Huff who taught him how to do “crowquill”
lettering on maps. When the company she had worked with for
so many years decided to transition to computers to draft and
letter maps, Eddie Lou took that as her cue to retire.
Early in life, Eddie Lou attended the Cotton Flat Baptist Church.
Several years ago she came to be a member of the Main Street
Church of Christ, where her daughter Carolyn Richard, and
son-in-law, Don, were already members. Challenges related to
living nine-plus decades of life on earth now limit how much
Eddie Lou leaves her house any more, but she welcomes
visitors – especially those of her physical family and those of
her spiritual family.
