Two variables have been used to assess research contribution; scientific production, and its quality.
We will argue both factors, quantity and quality of the research output in the unviersities of Islamic world.
Part one: Introducing the top universities in terms of different factors including Number of Publications, Average number of citations per paper (CPP) and MNCS.
Part two: Investigating two features Funding and Collaboration among universities of Islamic world and compare them with the top universities of the world.
The data for the research were collected from WoS
during 2007 to 2009. Over the examined years, the
publications of Islmic countries were published by
approximately 1900 univesities and research institutions.

2 Charachteristics
We have witnessed a dramatic growth in co-production of research results.
Research collaboration enhances the quality of research.
Indeed collaboration leads paperswith more authors to be cited more often.

FUNDING
Research is expensive and requires adequate funding.
Research funds can be counted as important incentives for researchers to do high quality research.
Funded research have a higher impact than that of unfunded ones.

The most productive and the most cited universities of islamic countries are from Iran and Turkey.
All in all, the most number of top 100 universities are Turkish, Iranian, Malaysian and Egyptian universities.
The tendency toward research collaboration is weak in Islamic world unviversities compare with top universities of the world.
The attempt toward receiving funds is not significant in universities of Islamic countries. This is while, a large percentage of publications in top universities of the world are funded by funding agencies.

The message of this research to scientific policy makers in Islamic countries and institutions is that persuade the researchers to work in research teams and cooperate with researchers all over the world.
Also, scientific policy makers are expected to pay more attention and endeavor to attract financial supports for carrying out research, especially vital and practical research projects in their country.
Thank you for listening
