In this arguement ,the author uses the recent researches by a
team of economists as
evidence to support the recommendation that all companies make
their workplace safer in
order to reduce the wages required by workers ,in turn ,makes
business more profitable.The
arguement does not provide any supporting evidence that by
reducing the wages of labourers
and increasing safety would definitely result in making the
business profitable.The arguementrelies on a serious of deficit
evidences And therefore remains unconvincing as it stands.
First,the author is considering the trend of increasing wages
for unskilled labourers especially
for those that work in tradional dangerous jobs,such as
mining.Increase in wages might owe to
the factors unrelated to the case of dangerous job.This trend
may be due to the scarcity of
labourers resulting in their increasing demand and hence their
wages .Also,depends on the
willingness of labourers about working with that place ,working
conditions , surrounding
environment and future prospects with that company.Thus,It is
very difficult to accept this as
the reason that hindres the business from becoming more
profitable.To strenghten the
evidence, the author needs more research work in favouring the
trend of increasing wages of
unskilled labourers .
Second,the author is emphasizing by making the workplace safer
for labourers.The author has
overlooked the fact that not every place can be made safer as
compared to normal jobsite for
unskilled labourers because of natural complications ,physical
conditions and financial factors
like expenses involved in making the workplace safer,financial
status of company and its
market structure.To support the argument ,the author should
provide more evidences that
considers above factors.
Finally, using the evidence in order to make business more
profitable by reducing the wages
and making place safer not necessarily result in improved
profits because expenses incurred in
making the workplace safer would offset the increasing profits
and thereby lowers its
profitability.Also,by lowering the wages labourers may skip to
other companies and hence
productivity would also be affected . To favour the given
evidence,author needs to consider
the facts related to the information of the expenses involved in
making place safer.
In sum ,the argument is a dubious one that relies on a series of
evidences about lowering of
wages of unskilled labour and make busineess more profitable.To
justify the argument ,the
author should support better evidences relating to the increase
on the wages of unskilledlabourers and making place safer.
