Angels on Wheels MinistryWe Need You

Our Angels On Wheels ministry is a wonderful group of volunteers who graciously use their culinary talents for our parishioners in need. Our volunteers not only bring a home-cooked meal to those

families in need (due to a recent hospitalization, surgery, death in the family, etc.), but they bring God’s love, care and compassion into their lives when they need it most. Since our ministry’s beginning, we have brought almost 100 meals to families. We are blessed with all of our volunteers for their compassionate hearts, dedication to serving others and, of course, their delicious cooking skills and talents.

If you are interested in joining our ministry- providing a few meals per year for those in need- or if you know someone that could use a meal, contact Lisa at [email protected] or 330.460.7315. We have eager volunteers that really want to serve the Lord by serving others.

Ministry of AccompanimentMonday, September 12On Monday, September 12, from 6:30-8:00 pm in the Mother Teresa Room, we will be welcoming Dobie Moser from the Diocese as he gives us an Introduction to what Accompaniment is– helping to heal other’s hurts, mend their broken relationships with others and/or with God and assist them in finding the mercy and compassion of Christ in our Church and parish community. Join us and learn some great guidelines and skills to become more Christ-like every single day. We need you to help build our Church. For questions, or to RSVP, contact Lisa at [email protected] or Jane at [email protected].

…”My child, conduct your affairs with humility, and you will be loved more than a giver of gifts. Humble yourself the more, the greater you are, and you will find favor with God.” Our scriptures this weekend, as we bring to a close the month of August, call us to a deep humility – recognizing that everything we have, and everything we can do, is a gift from the Lord. Our first reading reminds us that the more we realize this simple truth – that everything and every moment is a gift from God – the better we can be at living a life filled with God’s grace and blessing. It’s also a way of always being grateful and thankful. Take some time this weekend to give thanks to God – the giver of every good gift. As we reflect on a summer gone by – the wonderful moments and bright summer days – may we be filled with a deep sense of humility – that we are blessed by a good and gracious God.

…Next weekend we will have the blessing of dedicating a new statue of Mother Teresa. She is a perfect model of humility. She was absolutely aware of her dependence on God’s graciousness and goodness. She freely shared everything she had with others, trusting that God would care for and provide for her in every way. In so doing, she found great joy and did great good for others – and for our world. The humble servant of God is a model of humility. The more she gave, the more she found favor with God and her life was richly, richly blessed. The dedication of this new statue will take place after the 4:30 pm Mass on the PLC Patio.

…Many, many thanks to our Knights of Columbus for giving this gift to our parish community. I am always humbled by the generous service our K of C so freely give/share with our parish community. This statue is one more expression of their goodness. I always encourage all the men of our parish to get involved with the K of C – they are good men – serving the Lord and our parish community.

…The dedication is part of our end of summer Steak Roast. Please make plans to come by for a great meal and wonderful friendship. Tickets are available at the Parish Office. ALL proceeds will be used to help pay for the new statue and its installation. Come for a fun night and a great cause.

…This past week I met with and registered 12 new families into our parish. One of my favorite things to do is meet with our new members. It’s an opportunity to welcome them

into our community. I also very much enjoy hearing what brought them to Saint Ambrose. In an overwhelming way, they sound like me. They tell stories of YOUR goodness. How they felt welcome when they visited the parish. They found YOUR help and support in a time of need or struggle. They see and hear stories of YOUR goodness and compassion to others and want to be a part of the good YOU do for others and our local community. Over and again, I share with you that every day, at least 100 times, I am humbled as I see your goodness and the depth and breadth of your love for the Lord. While we welcome these new members, it’s one more moment for me to thank YOU for all the good you do in the name of the Lord. God bless you.

…If you are new to the area or the parish, I would love the opportunity to formally welcome you to Saint Ambrose. Please feel free to contact me so we can set up a time to meet ([email protected] or 330.460.7333).

…Speaking of humbling, Father Rob (who is on a well-deserved vacation this week) was humbled by your goodness last week. He was looking for some help to keep up on the sacristy and liturgical items for the Church. Over twenty of YOU responded with a generous ‘yes’. It’s one more sign of your goodness. It will also be a big help to keeping up on things in the Church.

…Speaking of the Church, many of you commented about the growing ‘dirt stain’ on some of the beams. Our Building and Grounds team and I are working to address the situation. Our guess as I write this (on Tuesday night) is that the high humidity over the past few weeks, coupled with a tired air conditioner and paint, is allowing some mildew to develop. We will know more by the time we come together for Mass this weekend. Thanks for your concern. I will keep you posted. I am hoping that it may have already been addressed before the weekend.

…Deacon Tom and Helen Sheridan are hoping that some of our married couples are humble enough to realize that they are not perfect and that they need God, and some of God’s grace, to renew and strengthen their marriage. Humility really is the hardest part of signing up for the Marriage Course. All you need to say is that “our marriage is not perfect and you would like to stir some deeper joy and greater love.” Over the past eight years, hundreds of couples

from our parish have taken advantage of this great program. The Marriage Course starts again on September 13. Come and see how this can help you and your marriage. Call Deacon Tom and Helen for more info (330.460.7322).

…God bless our parish book-keeper, Carol Maline. As we ended the month of June, she had some major medical concerns and has worked her way back to work. She wanted to get our fiscal year closed and complete our Annual Report for the Diocese. I am humbled by her love and dedication to our parish. Her love for Saint Ambrose is emblematic for all who are working for our community and work so hard to spread the mercy, compassion and light of Christ in a thousand ways every day in our parish community. God bless Carol and all who are working at Saint Ambrose. We are blessed. Many thanks to all of you. As you will see in a few weeks when we share the Annual Report, we were able to end the year in the black, while continuing to support an active, vibrant community and maintaining our parish campus. Lynn Rogers will tell you that each week when I see the weekend bulletin with the Sunday collection, I say something like, “God bless our good members.” Thanks to all who used the ‘summer catch up’ envelopes last week. You will see by the collection this week, that it helps.

…Our parish community desperately needs 8 people who can call out FIVE numbers….really that’s it….FIVE numbers. Our Friday night Bingo game, which helps support our parish, needs some extra help – especially people to ‘call back’ the number when someone shouts BINGO. It’s really that simple – and we will provide training. If you can help once a month for a few hours to call back BINGO – you would be helping our parish immensely. For more details for a five number training – call Mike Mascio at 330.460.7344.

…Saint Ambrose School is up and running. Praise be God. Littlest Angels Preschool starts next week. This is also a GREAT week to register for PSR.

…Every day I am humbled as I see the great work and generous service you give to the Lord and our parish community. God bless you for your goodness! Thank you.

Votive CandlesShare Your Intentions With Our Parish Family

During this Year of Mercy, let us renew our prayer life as a parish community. One of the ways we will do this is through the use of votive candles in our Church. The lighting of votive candles found its

roots in the custom of burning lights outside of the tombs of martyrs. Today, they are used in churches around the world, reminding the faithful to keep the intentions behind the candle in their prayers. Votive candles help strengthen the community, so share your intentions with the Family of God. Pick up your intention card at the PLC desk today.

Eternal rest, grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them.

May the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God,

rest in peace. Amen.

“Let no one ever come to you without leaving better and happier. Be the living expression of God’s kindness: kindness in your face, kindness in your eyes,

kindness in your smile.” –Blessed Teresa of Calcutta

Family of GodThe Rienerth Family

Lisa and Mike Rienerth have been parishioners of Saint Ambrose for 26 years, and during that time, have served in a number of different ways. Lisa has been a member of the music ministry for many years, serving in the guitar group, helping with Kids Praise and now

singing as an alto in the Adult Choir. She also coached CYO volleyball for three years, helped with RCIA and now beautifully proclaims the Word of God as a member of our lector ministry. Mike has participated with the golf league the past two years, served on the cooking crew of “Mike’s” for the music ministry Clam Bake and even joined the bass section when the choir traveled to Italy a few years back. Together, they have also worked bingo and facilitated men’s and women’s renewal retreats after attending themselves. In living their vocation of marriage for 27 years, they have been blessed by God with four beautiful children: Jessie, Nick, Kelly and Hannah. Amid the ups and downs of life, Lisa has shared a phrase she often repeats to others, “Instead of praying for patience, pray for strength.” This simple reminder offers each of us a focus on the power of God and the assurance that He will never give you more than He knows you can handle. Thank God for the presence and witness of the Rienerth family in our parish community – we are truly blessed.

Physical and dental checkups are essential to our health, but rarely do we do checkups on our relationships. If you find yourself answering yes to any of the following questions, then your yearly checkup is due: Does the love of your life act like, well, a jerk? Have you lost that “lovin’ feeling”? Is there a coldness in your relationship? Are you finding your marriage going stale? Does your spouse do and say things you don’t understand?

Our marriage course is completely free, and will provide you with privacy, humorous talks and much needed time away from work and home. We’ve even got free babysitting for children 2 and up. RSVP by September 9 to Helen at [email protected] or 330.460.7322.

May God bless and watch over all of our unborn brothers and sisters as they will never be forgotten.

Depression Support GroupSeptember 3 and 15People living with depression or bipolar disorder often struggle with feelings of hopelessness, emptiness or worthlessness. No one should have to go through these feelings alone. Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance groups offer a safe place where you can share your experiences, discuss coping skills and offer hope in trusted confidence. Our next DBSA meetings are Saturday, September 3, 2:00-4:00 pm, and Thursday, September 15, from 7:00-9:00 pm– both in Lehner Center. For more information, contact Sue at [email protected].

PSRWe’re Gearing Up

The PSR office has been hard at work preparing for the start of a new year. We are blessed to have so many

dedicated and faith-filled catechists who are ready to guide your children on their faith journey.

Classes begin:

• Wednesday, September 7 – 4:30-6:00 pm • Saturday, September 10 – 9:00-10:30 am • Monday, September 12 – 6:30-8:00 pm

Meet Our CatechistsMeet Cherrymae Aromas, who, since 2011, has been a catechist, sharing her faith with the 5th, 7th and 8th grade students. She has been a parishioner since 1980, when she became a 2nd grade student at Saint Ambrose Day School. Cherrymae is involved in the Choir, Ladies First, Vacation Bible

School and volunteers in the PSR office on Thursday afternoons. When asked what her favorite part of being a Catechist is, she replied: “sharing Jesus with the students and showing them how much God loves them.” God bless you, Cherrymae.

Mandatory Parent MeetingThere will be a mandatory parent meeting on the first day of your child’s PSR session. This meeting will be in the Church.

• Wednesday, September 7 4:30 pm • Saturday, September 10 9:00 am • Monday, September 12 6:30 pm

Journey with Jesus Open HouseJoin us on Sunday, September 11 for our Open House, held in the school building during the 9:00 and 10:30 am Masses. Meet our dedicated staff, adult catechists and teen assistants who teach the faith and love of Jesus to the preschool children. It is a great opportunity for you and your child to learn about the program.

Saint Ambrose Catholic SchoolA Note from Lisa Cinadr

Dear Parents and Friends,

It’s great to have our school family together. Thank you again to our families who are working to bring their children to Jesus through Saint Ambrose Catholic School. Spirit Sunday was the kick-off to what promises to be a special school

year. It was wonderful to celebrate Mass with so many families and enjoy the afternoon together. The energy on campus was amazing. Many thanks to our PTU Leadership Board and volunteers for hosting a super celebration.

The first day of school began Wednesday with excitement all around. I am especially grateful to Father Bob, John Krupinksi, Maryellen Newrones, Colleen Bremmer, Amy Morgan, Michael Poorman, Patty Kadlec, Vicki Stracensky, Catherine Mitchell, our faculty and staff, Jim Ergh and our maintenance crew, the Building and Grounds crew, the PTU Leadership Board, Sheri Ricciardi, Beth Szijarto, Mike Mascio, David Hoover, Christie Denk, Ryan Muir, Breanne Logue, Michelle Brousek, Kelley Marvin, Tom Bonezzi, Janet Majka and our parish staff, our School Advisory Board and my daughter Lauryn, for their huge efforts and support this summer. Because of them, we were able to properly provide Everything for our students on the first day of school. Glory and praise to our God!

On Friday, we shared an all-school picnic together in celebration of the new school year. What a beautiful sight to see our family of God in unity and joy. Let’s continue that joy and unity as we share the Eucharist at Mass together each weekend.

Jesus, Mary and Joseph, pray for us. Saint Michael the Archangel, pray for us. Saint Ambrose, pray for us.

Blessings,

Lisa Cinadr 330.460.7350 [email protected]

Symbolon: Knowing the FaithStarting Monday, September 12

Too often we try to live a faith we don’t know or understand. Some of us stumble along with it, going through the motions. Others simply walk away. That’s why the

time is right for Symbolon: Knowing the Faith.

Presented by the most trusted and compelling teachers and filmed around the world with stunning cinematography, Symbolon: Knowing the Faith explains the essentials of the Catholic Faith in a way that will inform our minds and inspire our hearts. These 10 sessions are ideal for parish catechism, family instruction and personal devotion.

Beginning Monday, September 12, we will be offering two sessions (10:00-11:30 am and 7:00-8:30 pm) of this amazing series. Contact Deacon Gary Tomazic at [email protected] for more information.

It’s hard to believe school is already back in session and August is almost over. Please keep all of our students in

your prayers as they start another school year, another season of sports and extracurricular activities in full swing.

Our college students are heading back to campus and gearing up for more classes, internships and adventures. If you have a college student (or you are a college student), be sure to send us their email address so that we can keep them updated on upcoming opportunities. Saint Ambrose will always be their home, mo matter where life takes them.

When you contact us, make sure to also give us their mailing address so that we can send them care packages from their parish family throughout the year. It really makes a difference. Don’t believe us? Take a look at the right column and see what our teens are posting on social media.

You can send addresses to Caitlin at [email protected], or call the office at 330.460.7387.
