June is in the books and so was a busy month for the Greens Depart-
ment. The start of the month picked up where May left off with rain dur-
ing the first week leading into the annual American Cancer Society out-
ing. Weather conditions became more favorable during the next ten-day
stretch of Robert White and start of US Open week, however the latter
part of US Open week was a different story. Over 3.5 inches of rain fell
during a two-day period on Thursday and Friday. The system not only
wreaked with the completion of rounds at Oakmont, but left washed bunkers (both days),
debris and downed trees here at Longue Vue. My hat is off to the staff on a job well done
during long hours and under tough conditions while showcasing our product.
Course conditions and plant health continue to thrive during this busy 6 week stretch
on the calendar. The aggressive venting and topdressing of the greens in late May set the
foundation for the busy weeks of June and July. Adjustments were made to our fertilization
program on fairways to address the yellowing of Poa that commonly occurs this time of the
year. We are continuing to see great results in our growth regulator program that is stunt-
ing the Poa to encourage the bent to take over. We completed an extensive bunker project
during the week of Robert White by re-distributing the sand throughout the bunker and re-
ducing the penal nature of the lips (edges). During the final week, we began adding sand to
bunkers that lacked consistency in depth. This will continue over the first few weeks of July
as time and money permits.
Heading into July, the crazy stretch continues with the July 4th
event, all of our
Club Championships, the SWAT Picnic and playing host to the West Penn Open. As
always, stay up to date by following us on Twitter and the blog for all the happenings both
on and off the course. Till then, we look forward to seeing you on the course!

Josh A. Saunders and the Greens Staff

CLU B RUL ES AND POLIC Y REMINDER
Page 8
CONGRA TULATIONS TO L UKE SKU RMAN
Each month we will be publishing an excerpt from the Club Rules and Policies book. Our goal is
to educate members regarding policies put in place to ensure an equitable and enjoyable
experience for everyone at LVC. If you are aware of an infraction of a rule or policy, we strongly
encourage you to bring it to the attention of a manager in that department, rather than per-
sonally addressing another member or guest. Your cooperation is appreciated.
This month we would like to share the Longue Vue Policy on Cell Phones and Similar
Communication Devices.
Out of respect for fellow members, the ringing of cell phones or indiscriminate use of cell phones in the Clubhouse or on the golf course is considered a breach of etiquette and a lack of courtesy. Cell phones and similar devices should be placed in vibrate or silent mode while at the Club.
Use of Cell Phones, however, is allowed in your car, the men’s and ladies’ locker rooms, pool house lockers and restrooms, tennis and paddle huts, 12th tee, Men’s Grill, the swimming pool area, shooting grounds, Clubhouse rest rooms, and phone booths.
Discreet use of texting, calendar, web, photograph taking and email services is permitted at Longue Vue.
All guests should be reminded of the cell phone and electronic device policy. As with all other matters involving guests, members are responsible for the actions of their guests.
When using any electronic device at Longue Vue, members and guests are to be discreet and
courteous to others.
As always, If you have any questions or concerns regarding the interpretation or spirit of a specific
policy, please contact the Club.
