JUDGE PETER SAKAI BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

On November 7, 2006, Judge Peter Sakai was elected with nearly 60% of the entire Bexar County vote to the 225th District Court bench. Judge Sakai was the highest vote-getter among the contested judicial races. He presides over all types of civil disputes, including family law cases. Before his election to the 225th District Court in 2006, Judge Sakai was appointed to the bench by the unanimous vote of the Bexar County Civil District Court Judges on January 1, 1995. From 1995 until his 2006 election, he was assigned to hear cases involving child abuse, neglect and those involving the adoption of foster children.

Judge Sakai is 55 years old and was born and raised in the Rio Grande Valley. He graduated from McAllen High School in 1972 and attended then named Pan American University. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree from the Univer-sity of Texas at Austin in 1976 and graduated with a Doctorate of Jurisprudence from the University of Texas Law School in 1979. At the age of 27 years old, he was appointed to be the Chief of the Juvenile Section of the District Attorney’s Office. He left the D.A.’s office for private practice. In 1989, he was appointed to be the Juvenile Master/Referee of the 289th District Court (Juvenile Court).

Judge Sakai has received numerous awards for his hard work and dedication on the bench since 1995. He is widely recognized in the community as being a leader who works hard to bring new ideas and solutions to help resolve issues of child abuse, neglect and family violence. He constantly challenges everyone involved in the child welfare system to more ef-fectively serve the families that come into his courtroom and help prevent child abuse and neglect.

The CPS Energy Claims Team

CPS Energy is the nation’s largest municipally owned utility providing both natural gas and electric service. Acquired by the City of San Antonio in 1942, CPS Energy serves approximately 700,000 electric customers and more than 320,000 natural gas customers in and around America’s seventh-largest city. It ranks among the nation’s lowest-cost energy providers, owns financial ratings among the highest of U. S. electric systems, stands number 1 in wind-energy capacity among mu-nicipally owned utilities across the country and ranks number 1 in Texas in the amount of solar-generated electricity under contract. CPS Energy is self-insured and the Claims Department has seven licensed multi-line claims adjust-ers who handle general liability and auto liability claims along with a variety of personal injury and other types of property damage claims to include gas explosions and electric contact cases. The

Claims Department also handles collection claims for damages to our facilities such as damaged underground gas and electric lines and overhead electric facilities to include transformers and util-ity poles. The adjusting staff performs call duty 24 hours day, 7 days a week on a weekly rotational basis. Melody Kreutziger is the Claims Manager and has been employed with CPS Energy for over 23 years. She worked in Customer Service for the first 12 years of her employment at CPS Energy and was a Unit Supervisor in Customer Service before joining the Claims Department in 1999. She is very grateful to be employed at such a fine company as CPS Energy and thoroughly enjoys every job she has had since she started her employment. Melody has been married to her husband Gary for 20 years and they have two children; Cody who is 18 years old and Harmony who is 15 years old. Cody attends Northeast Lakeview Community college and Harmony is a freshman cheerleader at Johnson High School. Melody has said that having two teenagers under the same roof has at times, proven to be more challenging than going through cancer and chemotherapy! She and her husband thoroughly enjoy watching their children in sports and love to travel when they can. Two of their favorite places to go are New York City at Thanksgiving time and Taos, New Mexico for snow skiing at Christmas or Spring Break. They are members of Harvest Fellowship Church. Al Cervantes graduated from Poth High School in 1970 and proceeded to join the U. S. Marines. In April 23, 1973 he began to work in various departments at CPS Energy. In 1986, he began working in the Claims Department and his current title is Senior Claims Representative. He got married in 1995 and has two sons; Nathan who is 9 years old and Ryan who is 14 years old. His hobbies have been playing baseball and he enjoys taking care of his sons. Al also enjoys going to the beach and hill country to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Tracy Lee has been with CPS Energy for 22 years and has been a Claims Adjuster for our company for the last 10 years. She works with a number of good people throughout our company and enjoys

her job very much. She has an eight year old daughter who is the love of her life. She remembers when her mom told her that you will never understand how much I love you until you have you own child. Well, that is putting it mildly. Tracy has three jobs; being

Page 7: In this Issue: March Meeting Newsletter 2010.pdfNancy Kreft with ServPro NE San Antonio Bio Page 6-7 The Claims Team at CPS In this Issue: San Antonio Claims Association PO Box 291130

a mom; an adoring wife to a wonderful husband and a Claims Adjuster. There is not much time for anything else but when she can tear down a wall at her house, paint a room or spend time gardening, she is in complete bliss. Tracy loves the outdoors during the summer months and does not like the winter months too much…too dreary for her. Her long term goals are to have a well adjusted daugh-ter who is happy and content and to have everything paid for (Dave Ramsey thing) before she retires and to be healthy enough to be able to retire and relax a bit with her family. Alex Chavez is a licensed adjuster working for CPS Energy as a Claims Representative. Since 1999, he has also worked for CPS Energy as a Customer Service Representative as well as an Energy Auditor before becoming an adjuster in 2003. In his current position as a Claims Representative, he has had the opportunity to work in both liability and collection roles for the department. In addition to these responsibilities, Alex has previously served on the Advisory Board in 2007 and as an Executive Board member in 2008 for the San Antonio Claims Association and the non-profit organization HOPE re-spectively. In 2008, he graduated from the Alex Briseno Leadership Development Program, sponsored by the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. Alex lives in San Antonio with Monica, (his wife of 12 years) and his 8-year-old son, Alex Jacob. His hobbies include spending time with his family and playing the

guitar. Donna F. Reyes began a career at CPS Energy in 2001 in Customer Service and has been in the Claims Department for the past six years. She is a graduate of Providence High School and is cur-rently working on a Nursing degree. Donna is married and has two daughters; Donna and Mikayla, who both attend middle school. Her husband has been in law enforcement for the past 25 years. An interesting note about Donna is that she loves shoes, flashy bling bling, clothes and make up. Janie Guzman joined the CPS Energy Claims team in 2005 and prior to this she was with the San An-tonio Water System and held positions as a claims adjuster and water conservation planner. Janie is a 1984 graduate of The University of Texas at Austin with a Political Science and Spanish Bachelor of Arts Degree and since graduating, has held different positions in the insurance field. Currently, she is student mentoring a ninth grader from Kennedy High School through CPS Energy’s “Connecting the Dots Job Shadowing Program”. On a more personal note, Janie has a son, Kevin who is currently at-tending San Antonio College and a daughter Lauren in Middle School. Her hobbies include gardening and she is a certified recreational scuba diver. Brenda J. Martinez-Ponce has been working for CPS Energy for a little over 3 ½ years. She handles collection claims for damage to electric facilities including but not limited to utility poles and street lights. She lives in Adkins with her husband and four daughters. They are 13 years old, 8 years old, 5 years old and the youngest is 18 months old. Brenda was born and raised in New Braunfels and has lived in or near San Antonio for 18 years. The Employee Benefits Department has one licensed adjuster that handles workers compensation claims and her name is Lisa Jarzombek. Lisa has worked for CPS Energy for 23 years. She has been an adjuster since 1994 and a SACA member since 1995. Her current title is Senior Workers’ Compen-sation Representative and she oversees the day to day processes within the workers’ compensation

program for CPS Energy. Lisa’s hobbies include cooking, gardening, traveling, reading and shopping. She has two dogs; a miniature pinscher and a chihuahua mix and two aquariums with an assortment of fish. She said that her favorite being the angelfish.
