Gulf Coast Leadership Forum DisputesFeinberg Claims That There Are NoHealth Problems From Oil Spill
New Orleans - June 8, 2011. TheGulf Coast Leadership Forum isdisputing assertions from GulfCoast Claims Facility Czar Kenneth
Feinberg that Gulf Coast residentsare not experiencing medicaldifficulties from last year's BP oilspill and the subsequent use oftoxic dispersants.
On Monday, Feinberg told
Louisiana lawmakers that he hasn't seen any medicallinkage of the oil and dispersants and health problems.
"This assertion is nonsense," said Gulf CoastLeadership Forum Chairman William Loiry. "Medicalevidence from Florida to Texas indicates that at least100,000 Americans are suffering health problems as aresult of the oil spill and the toxic dispersants. Thenumber could be much higher. This is a nationaltragedy which must be addressed openly andtruthfully."
Feinberg was a featured speaker at the Gulf CoastLeadership Summit in April, convened by the GulfCoast Leadership Forum. The Summit included generalsessions on Gulf Coast health and the environment aswell as a general session on the concerns of Gulf Coastresidents. Numerous Gulf Coast residents spoke about
their medical difficulties arising from the oil spill anddispersants and told Feinberg during the Summit'sconcluding General Session about their healthproblems.
Subsequently, the U.S. Department of Health andHuman Services has asked the Gulf Coast LeadershipForum to help it provide training to doctors andmedical facilities throughout the Gulf Coast to respondto the increasing oil-related medical crisis.
In addition, the Gulf Coast Leadership Forum will beorganizing a major conference on the Gulf Coast healthcrisis and is working with Silicon Valley to develop adatabase to track individual medical cases related tothe oil and dispersants.
