Principal’s Report

Welcome to Term 2

This looks like being another action packed term with many special activities occurring in and around our normal educational programs.

We begin with our ANZAC Day Ceremony. This will take place on Friday 24th April on the lawn in front of the undercover area. The ceremony is planned to begin at 8:45 am. We invite everyone to attend if you can and feel free to bring along any interested community members. This event will also be the first public per-formance of our senior choir. Please note that Monday 27th April is a public holiday.

In conjunction with Baldivis Events we will be having a Family Movie Night at the school on Friday 1st May. This is a great opportunity for some family time. The movie will be "How to Train Your Dragon 2". Tickets will be $10 per family and will go on sale from Friday, from school reception. There are only a limited num-ber of tickets available and these can only be pre-purchased. There will be no door sales on the night.

This is an outdoor event so you’ll need to bring blankets or folding chairs. There will be food vendors if you wish to buy food or you can chose to bring your own. Being a school event the consumption of alcohol and cigarette smoking will not be permitted. People who chose to ignore this will be asked to leave.

Entrance will be through the Chalice Way car park gate. I hope to see many of you there.

During the week commencing the 4th of May our year 3 and 5 students will be participating in the National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN).

From the 25th May for two weeks our pre-primary through to year 6 students will be travelling to Warnbro Aqua Jetty for swimming lessons.

Changes to Staff

Once again it is with a mixture of both sadness and excitement that I inform you of a change in teaching staff. As some of you may be aware Miss Hine, Deputy Principal and teacher in R3, has been successful in winning the position of Principal at Westminster Junior Primary School. She will commence in her new school on the 11th May.

Processes are underway to find a teacher for R3 and a deputy and I will continue to keep you informed of our progress in these areas.

Miss Hine has been an outstanding contributor in getting our school ready to open and in getting to where we are today. I wish her success and happiness in her new position.

Kindergarten 2016

We are now accepting applications for children wishing to attend our kindergarten program in 2016.

In order to apply you need to collect and complete an application to enrol form from the school office or you can request to have an electronic copy emailed to you. This needs to be returned with a copy of the child's birth certificate, immunisation history statement and proof of residence.

During third term people will be informed about the outcome of their application. We will be holding an informal information session at the school at 9:00 am on Wednesday the 20th of May.

Have a great week everyone.

Action on the court

During term one, students from year four, five and six were invited to join in the fun with a

basketball competition. Students selected their players for their teams and battled it out dur-

ing recess and lunch of week 9 to see which team would go head to head against the teachers

team. The winning team (consisting of year 5 and 6 students) played a fast and exciting game

during lunch on the last day of school. With plenty of thrills and a few spills, the teachers

were victorious— just. This term, similar competitions will

be run for years three to six in soccer and football.

Who’s been crawling around R4?

R4 was full of crawling critters in term one as

the students studied the life cycle of the Mealworm during science. Students were responsible

for feeding and watering the worms as they changed into Darkling Beetles. Students used tech-

nology to record and monitor the different stages the worms passed through. Students also

used clay to create 3D models.

nition of their continued savings behaviour.

Our next account opening day is 7th May. Alternatively, new school banking accounts can be opened at your local Commonwealth Bank. Thank you for supporting the School Banking program at Tuart Rise Primary School.

Tuart Rise Health Report

(World Asthma Day 5th May 2015)

Asthma - What are the main symptoms of asthma?

Wheezing - a high pitched raspy sound on breathing

Coughing

Shortness of breath

Tightness in the chest

These symptoms vary from person to person, and from time to time within the same person.

Some people have all the symptoms, while some may only have a cough or wheeze. Symp-

toms can also vary considerably in intensity.

For more information visit: http://www.asthmawa.org.au

We don’t really know why some people have extra sensitive airways and others don’t, but we

do know that many people are born with a tendency to develop asthma. There is often a his-

tory of asthma, eczema or hay fever in brothers, sisters and parents or close relatives. Asthma

can occur for the first time at any age.

There is evidence that contact with certain things, for example cigarette smoke during preg-

nancy and early childhood, increases the risk of developing asthma. For more information on

smoking, pregnancy and asthma visit www.smokefreebaby.org.au.

EASTER TREATS

G3 and G4 made nests for their Easter eggs.

They melted chocolate and mixed it with rice

bubbles and Weetbix. Smelt delicious and

tasted even better.
