During the season of giving, the children had been thinking about what animals give to us and several of the songs were themed around animals as well as Christmas. The Pre-Prep Choir, Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 each performed several items and the Year 2 dancers gave a very enthusiastic and enjoyable performance of their dance. Two highlights of the concert were the audience finding out about what it is like to be in a Pre-Prep Music class and the Sound Story read by the Headmaster which was about Jess, our School Dog looking for the Christmas bells. At the end of the story, much to everyone’s delight, Jess made an appearance in the Fyson Blum Hall. The concert ended with the massed voices of Pre-Prep singing three songs including one in French. The children showed great confidence and huge enjoyment in their singing and loved being able to perform for their families. The Keymaster Rehearsals Please note that all members of both of The Keymaster casts are needed for full cast rehearsals of the songs during club time on Monday 7th and Tuesday 8th January (the first two days of term). The songs from the show can now be found on Firefly - via Firefly Homepage - Resources - Drama - The Keymaster. The children should please spend some time listening to and rehearsing these during the holidays in readiness for next term.

A Very Merry Christmas

After school clubs start on the first day of term. All school clubs are running in the first week of term except:

Friday: Pre-Prep Chess and Open Chess (boh due to chess match)

It has been an extremely busy but very enjoyable final two weeks of term. The Nativity plays performed by Reception and Nursery children were, as always, enchanting and these were followed, this week, by the wonderful Pre-Prep Christmas Concert.

In Prep the Years 3 and 4 Concert was a delightful evening of music and today’s traditional service of nine readings and carols was a perfect way to bring the Autumn term to a close and fill everyone with the spirit of the season.

Thank you to the numerous staff and peripatetic teachers who were involved in all of these events and thanks also to all the children who performed so beautifully.

We wish all our pupils, parents and staff a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. We look forward to welcoming everyone back for a new term on Friday 4th January for staff and on Monday 7th January for children.

The festively wrapped shoeboxes that were piled high around the Christmas tree in Reception have been collected by Jan Howlin of the Wokingham Branch of the Salvation Army and will be distributed to children in the

local community in time for Christmas. Jan was delighted with the boxes and has asked for her thanks to be passed on to the Yateley Manor Community.

Thank you to everyone who created and donated a shoe box, for choosing the items with such care and for making the boxes look so beautiful. We know that they will give lots of children a happier Christmas than they might otherwise have had.

Shoebox Appeal

Worldwise Geography QuizOn Monday evening three keen Year 8 geographers represented Yateley Manor at the GA Worldwise Geography Quiz held at Gordon’s School, Woking. Oscar, Harrison and Archie, who were amongst the youngest pupils in the competition which is open to Year 8, 9 and 10 pupils, pitted their wits against fourteen other teams from the local area. With rounds which included OS maps, capital cities, Google Earth, fieldwork, ‘Where’s Boris?’ and an alphabet challenge, the boys did very well to achieve seventh place overall with a score of 76 points.

Well done boys and thank you to the parents for coming to support them on the night.

Christmas LunchThe whole school tucked into a delicious traditonal Christmas lunch of roast turkey with all the trimmings followed by Christmas pudding or brownie on Wednesday. The Pre-Prep children looked resplendent in the brightly coloured and decorated Christmas hats that they had made themselves. A really big thank you to Chef Annie and all her team for a delicious and festive lunch.

The Big BashThe Big Bash was an afternoon of fun, excitement and noisy entertainment! As always the Prep children came up with some great ideas for stalls, and everyone took part with excitement and enthusiasm. The superb sum of £1,312.56 was raised for Daisy’s Dream.

Plenty of children including those from Year 1 and 2 took part in the dressing up competition with the theme ‘Christmas from the waist up’. There were some fantastic entries in the competition.

Thank you to all the children for their hard work and for clearing up so well afterwards!

Thank you also to all the staff for their help and to all parents for supporting their children, helping them to collect together all the things that they needed for their stalls and for giving them spending money.

More photos will be on our Facebook page soon.

Nursery and Pre-Prep Christmas PartiesThere was great excitement in the Nursery and Pre-Prep as children were treated to an exciting Christmas party by FYMS. The children all came into school dressed in beautiful party clothes for their festive treat.

The Nursery celebrated in the morning with games followed by a visit from Father Christmas who brought each of the children a small gift. The children were thrilled to see him and each collected their present, some posing for a photograph.

The Pre-Prep afternoon party started with a visit from Father Christmas who had also brought each of them a gift. Afterwards they were entertained by Barney Bonkers who enthralled them and kept them laughing and squealing during the whole show.

Thank you very much to FYMS and to Mrs Brown (mother of Daniel and Jacob) and Mrs Etherington (mother of Lucy) in particular for organising the parties and helping Father Christmas!

More photos will be on our Facebook page soon.
