Brief on maharastra port sector
Maharashtra has 720 km long coastline;10% of India’s coastline The State has five districts along the coastline Two major ports: MbPT (Mumbai Port Trust) located in Mumbai , JNPT (Jawaharlal Nehru PortTrust) in Raigad district
JNPT is the largest container port in India while MbPt is natural deep-water harbour of 400 sq.Kms.
JNPT and MbPT account for the largest share of exports-imports and trans-shipment in the country
MbPT with 18,700 employee is the biggest employer among the major ports in India.
Maharashtra has 48 minor ports,with 14 operational ports
