AOPA FLY-IN HOST FBOs:AOPA Fly-in Host FBOs at San Marcos Municipal Airport are Redbird Skyport and Berry Aviation. Redbird Skyport will be servicing all ramp areas except the West Ramp Parking area which will be serviced by Berry Aviation.

PARKING AND SERVICE DETAILSFuel/oil orders will be taken at the time your aircraft is parked. If you need either, please make sure to make the request at that time. Orders made at a later time might delay your departure. Credit card information will be requested at the time the order is placed.
Other services are available upon request. GPU, Catering, Lavatory Service, Quick-turn Service, Oxygen Bottled, Ground Handling, Concierge, Oxygen Bulk, Detailing, Nitrogen, Water, Maintenance.
ChoCKS AND TIE DowNSWood chocks will be available in limited supply so it is highly recommend that you bring your own. Tie down hooks are scattered on the ramp and parking on tie down spaces is unlikely. We recommend bringing tiedowns and anchors for any quick weather contingency aircraft securing needs.

RELIEVER AIRPoRT
NEw bRAUNFELS REGIoNAL AIRPoRT (KbAZ) Located 15 nautical miles southwest of San Marcos Municipal Airport and is approximately a 30 minute drive to KHYI. New Braunfels Regional Airport has two hard surface runways. 35/17 is 5364 X 100 and 31/13 is 5352 X 100. The airspace is Class D from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM local. Other times Class G.
In the event that Fly-In parking reaches capacity, Austin Approach may recommend New Braunfels as an alternate. Complimentary ground transportation between KBAZ and KHYI will be provided by AOPA. Rental cars are available through Enterprise at 866-315-9155.
New braunfels shuttle runs Saturday, April 26 from 8am-6pm, departing every 15 minutes.
oThER AREA AIRPoRTSThere are several public use airports that are within an hour drive of San Marcos Municipal Airport. You might elect to use one of these airports
in the event that San Marcos Municipal Airport aircraft parking reaches capacity. Rental cars are also available at many of these airports. Please contact the airport directly for more information.
LoCKhART MUNICIPAL AIRPoRT (50R) Located 10 nautical miles southeast of San Marcos Municipal Airport and is approximately a 30 minute drive to KHYI. Lockhart Municipal Airport has on hard surface runway. 36/18 is 4001 X 75. The airspace is Class G. Rental cars are available through Enterprise at 866-315-9155.
AUSTIN-bERGSTRoM INTERNATIoNAL AIRPoRT (KAUS) Located 21 nautical miles northeast of San Marcos Municipal airport and is approximately a 36 minute drive to KHYI. Austin-Bergstrom International Airport has two parallel hard surface runways. 35L/17R is 12248 X 150 and 35R/17L is 9000 X 150. The airspace is Class C continuous. SAN ANToNIo INTERNATIoNAL AIRPoRT (KSAT) Located 38 nautical miles southwest of San Marcos Municipal Airport and is approximately a 49 minute drive to KHYI. San Antonio International Airport has 3 hard surface runways. 4/22 is 8505 X 150. 12R/30L is 8502 X 150 and 12L/30R is 5519 X 100. The airspace is Class C continuous. Specific procedures contained with this NoTAM may be revised or unavailable at the time of the event. Users are encouraged to check NOTAMs frequently to verify they possess the most current revisions. This NoTAM does not supersede restrictions pertaining to the use of airspace contained in FDC NoTAMS.
In anticipation of a larger than normal number of aircraft operating to and from the San Marcos Municipal Airport in conjunction with the AOPA Fly-in, the following procedures will be used to enhance safety and minimize delays.
TRAFFIC MANAGEMENTTraffic management initiatives will be utilized when arrival rates exceed airport capacity. Pilots should be prepared for potential holding, reroutes or EDCT’s (Expect Departure Clearance Time) that may be issued for domestic IFR arrivals to San Marcos Municipal Airport. New Braunfels Regional Airport is the event’s reliever airport.
AOPA Note: Highest traffic density is expected before 9am and after 3pm. Please plan accordingly.
IMPoRTANT INFoRMATIoNPilots are urged to review all applicable NOTAMs and arrival/departure procedures prior to conducting flight to San Marcos Municipal Airport. IFR flight plans should be filed at least 6 hours prior to proposed departure time.San Marcos Tower will have special extended hours on Friday, April 25 and Saturday, April 26. Hours of operation will be 1100 UTC (6:00 AM local) until 0100 UTC (8:00 PM local) daily.
AOPA Note: Please plan to arrive VFR if possible or cancel IFR prior to joining an arrival, if conditions permit.
LoCAL TRAINING AND PRACTICE APPRoAChESLocal traffic pattern, closed traffic training, and practice instrument approaches will not be allowed at San Marcos Airport during the AOPA San Marcos Fly-in.

SAN MARCoS MUNICIPAL AIRPoRT GENERAL INFoRMATIoNParking areas: When operating in the parking areas, pilots are encouraged to be extra alert for taxiing aircraft, aircraft with engine(s) running, and vehicle/pedestrian traffic. Ground support personnel will be assisting aircraft to and from parking areas and run-up areas. For safety reasons, high RPM engine running is prohibited outside of designated run-up areas. Please review the parking map prior to landing and departure. This will brief you on the correct taxi routes.
Vehicular Traffic: Vehicles are not allowed on ramps except those belonging to airport operators and tenants, and those participating in the AOPA San Marcos Fly-in.
Pre-Flight Planning: Please ensure that you have reviewed the special flight information, departure procedures, and temporary taxi procedures prior to engine start. High traffic density is expected Saturday morning and afternoon. Consider arrival during off-peak hours.

SAN MARCoS MUNICIPAL AIRPoRT AFTER LANDING PRoCEDURESExit the runway as quickly and as safely as possible. Do not stop on the runway unless absolutely necessary. Follow taxi instructions and directional signs to the designated parking areas. Marshallers will direct aircraft to the parking spaces.
VFR ARRIVALS FRoM ThE NoRTh/NoRThwESTMonitor San Marcos ATIS on 120.825 as soon as practical.
Proceed toward the southwestern shore of Buchanan Lake at 5,500 feet MSL. If not already in communication with ATC, contact Houston Center on 134.2 prior to arriving at Buchanan Lake. Be cautious. Stay alert for other aircraft in the vicinity. In the event that traffic volume requires holding, be prepared to hold around Buchanan Lake at 5,500 feet MSL, left turns, if instructed to do so by ATC. Proceed southeast toward San Marcos Municipal Airport and follow instructions from Houston Center. Houston Center will hand you off to Austin Approach on 119.0. When instructed to do so by Austin Approach, contact San Marcos Tower on 126.825. As you approach San Marcos Municipal Airport, stay alert for aircraft arriving from the west around Canyon Lake.
VFR ARRIVALS FRoM ThE NoRTh/NoRThEASTMonitor San Marcos ATIS on 120.825 as soon as practical.
Proceed toward the western shore of Granger Lake at 4,500 feet MSL. If not already in communication with ATC, contact Gray Approach on 134.35 prior to arriving at Granger Lake. Be cautious. Stay alert for other aircraft in the vicinity. In the event that traffic volume requires holding, be prepared to hold around Granger Lake at 4,500 feet MSL, left turns, if instructed to do so by ATC.
Proceed south toward San Marcos Municipal Airport passing near the towns of Elgin (N30°20’56.86”/W97°22’24.36”) and Bastrop (N30°06’31.93”/W97°18’56.88”). Gray Approach will hand you off to Austin Approach on 127.225. When instructed to do so by Austin Approach, contact San Marcos Tower on 126.825. As you approach San Marcos Municipal Airport, stay alert for aircraft converging from the East and Southeast.
VFR ARRIVALS FRoM ThE wEST/SoUThwESTMonitor San Marcos ATIS on 120.825 as soon as practical.
Proceed toward the Center Point VORTAC (CSI) 117.5 at 5,500 feet MSL. If not already in communication with ATC, contact San Antonio Approach on 127.1 prior to arriving at the Center Point VORTAC. Be cautious. Stay alert for other aircraft in the vicinity. Proceed east toward the southern shore of Canyon Lake. Stay alert for other aircraft in the vicinity. In the event that traffic volume requires holding, be prepared to hold around Canyon Lake at 5,500 feet MSL, left turns, if instructed to do so by ATC. Proceed northeast toward San Marcos Municipal Airport. When instructed to do so by San Antonio Approach, contact San Marcos Tower on 126.825. As you approach San Marcos Municipal Airport, stay alert for aircraft converging from the Northwest.
VFR ARRIVALS FRoM ThE SoUTh/SoUThEASTMonitor San Marcos ATIS on 120.825 as soon as practical.
Proceed toward Yoakum Municipal Airport (T85) at 4,500 feet MSL. If not already in communication with ATC, contact Houston Center on 132.8 prior to arriving at Yoakum Municipal Airport. Be cautious. Stay alert for other aircraft in the vicinity. Proceed northwest toward Dreyer Memorial Airport (T20) and Carter Memorial Airport (T91). Houston Center will hand you off to Austin Approach on 120.87. When instructed to do so by Austin Approach, contact San Marcos Tower on 126.825. As you approach San Marcos Municipal Airport stay alert for aircraft converging from the North and East.
VFR ARRIVALS FRoM ThE EASTMonitor San Marcos ATIS on 120.825 as soon as practical.
Proceed toward the Industry VORTAC (IDU) 110.2 at 4,500 feet MSL. If not already in communication with ATC, contact Houston Center on 124.22 or 134.3 prior to arriving at the Industry VORTAC. Be cautious. Stay alert for other aircraft in the vicinity. From the Industry VORTAC (IDU) 110.2, fly the 259 degree radial west toward San Marcos Municipal Airport. Houston Approach will hand you off to Austin Approach on 127.225. When instructed to do so by Austin Approach, contact San Marcos Tower on 126.825. As you approach San Marcos Municipal Airport, stay alert for aircraft converging from the North.
SAN MARCoS MUNICIPAL AIRPoRT DEPARTURE PRoCEDURESAll IFR departures will follow normal procedures and obtain their clearance through San Marcos ground/clearance delivery on 120.125. Consider picking up IFR after leaving the area to lower the ground control workload.
All VFR departures should maintain runway heading until clear of the San Marcos Class D airspace before turning on course or as instructed by ATC.
Prior to Start-Up: Please ensure that you have reviewed the special flight information, departure procedures, and temporary taxi procedures prior to engine start.
Run-Up/Taxi: After startup contact ground control for taxi instructions to nearest designated run-up area. After run-up monitor tower 126.825. DO NOT CONTACT TOWER. MONITOR ONLY.
VFR Departures: Fly runway heading until clear of the San Marcos Class D airspace as instructed by ATC.
