PT. Inco is one of the worlds premier producers of nickel, a versatile metal which is important to improved livingstandars and economic growth. For more than three decades, since the signing of its Contract of work with theIndonesian Government in 1968, the Company has provided skilled jobs, shown concern for the needs of thecommunities in which it operates, benefited shareholders and contributed positively to the Indonesian economy.

PT. Inco produces nickel in matte, an intermediate product, from lateritic ores at its integrated mining andprocessing fasilities near Soroako on the island of Sulawasi. Its entire production is sold in U.S. Dollars underlongterm contracts for refining in Japan. PT. Incos competitive strengths include abundant ore reserves, askilled, well-trained workforce, low-cost hydroelectric power, modern production fasilities and an assured marketfor its product.

The Company is owned 58.7 per cent by Inco Limited of Canada, one of the worlds leading nickel producers,and 20.1 per cent by Sumitomo Metal Mining Co., Ltd of Japan, a premier mining and smelting company. Inaddition, 20.0 per cent of PT. Incos shares are owned by public shareholders and the balance by four otherJapanese companies.

Saham perseroan sebanyak 58,7 persen dimiliki oleh Inco Limited, Kanada, salah satu produsen nickelterkemuka di dunia dan 20,1 persen oleh Sumitomo Metal Mining Co., Ltd., jepang, sebuah perusahaan tambangdan peleburan yang utama. Disamping itu, 20,0 persen saham PT Inco dimiliki oleh pemegang saham publik dansisanya oleh empat perusahaan jepang lain.

Larona HydroelectricPlant

1974 In reaction to the first oil price shock a decisions is made to move fromthermal to hydroelectic power generation. The smelter is tripled in size to reduceunit costs and to match the hydroelectric plant.

We increassed production 30 per cent to 130.5 million pounds of nickel in matte. The annualized production raterose from 120.8 million pounds in the first half of 2000 to an annualized rate of 137.3 million pounds in the finalsix months of the year. This increase is in line with the Companys plan to ramp up operations to reach itsexpanded capacity of 150 million pounds of nickel production per annum.

Increassed production and higher nickel prices, partially offset by increassed fuel prices, resulted in a net profitof U.S.$80.5 million, or U.S.$0.32 per share, compared with $21.3 million, or $0.09 per share in 1999. Despitethese strong result, the Company must continue to consolidate its focus on its financial position, as nickel priceshave softened from very strong levels in the first part of 2000, oil prices remain high, the political and economicsituation in Indonesia remains uncertain and our semi-annual obligations on our expantion debt continue. Weimproved PT. Incos capacity to optimize the use of water in its reservoir in order to maximize nickel production,while minimizing the use of fuel fired power generation systems. Our present modeling shows that even in ayear of just 90 per cent of historical average rainfall, we should have sufficient water to meet the powergeneration requirements associated with production at desaign capacity, while keeping our higher cost fuel firedpower system on standby.

Disabling injuries were 0.22 per 100 employees per year, an increase from 0.16 per 100 employees in 1999. Wedid have one fatality, Mr. Hamzah Baso, early in 2000. We were very saddened by this event resulting from alandslide at the slag dump. While a safe work environment for all of our employees, our safety record remainsone the best in the business. We are currently piloting a program involving employee input, as part of ourobyective to reach zero disabling injuries by 2002.

We continued efforts to reduce dust emissions from the process plant. We completed survey and engineeringwork on an electrostatic precipitator for No.2 Dryer, which will be installed by year-end 2001 and which isdesigned to reduce total plant stack dust emissions by more than 40 per cent.

We negotiated a two-year collective labor agreement for unionized employees. The agreement was signed inSoroako on December 14, 2000.

We remained focused on employee development through our GP3 approach (Grow People, Grow Production,Grow Propit), which has bedome a routine part of the way we do business. This approach includes many formsof education (in-house, off-site and overseas) to enhance business undestanding and performance, as well asleadership training for all senior staff.

We maintained our emphasis on community programs and contributed to regional development activities inSoutheast, South and Central Sulawesi.

Kecelakaan Yang mengakibatkan tidak dapat bekerja sebesar 0,22 per 100 karyawan per tahun, naik dari 0,16per 100 karyawan tahun 1999. Kami mengalami satu kecelakaan fatal, yang menimpa Bapak Hamzah Baso padaawal tahun 2000. Kami sanngat berduka atas peristiwa tersebut yang disebabkan oleh tanah longsor di daerahpembuangan terak. Sementara kami terus berupaya untuk memastikan lingkungan kerja yang aman bagiseluruh karyawan kami, catatan keselamatan kerja kami tetap merupakan satu dari yang terbaik di bidangusahanya. Kami sekarang sedang menerapkan sebuah program yang melibatkan masukan dari karyawan,sebagai bagian dari rencana kami untuk mencapai nihil kecelakaan yang mengakibatkan tidak dapat bekerjapaling lambat tahun 2002.

Kami meneruskan upaya untuk mengurangi emisi debu dari pabrik pengolahan. Kami menyelesaikan penelitiandan rekayasa atas presipitator elektrostatis Tanur Pengering No.2, yang akan dipasang sebelum akhir tahun2001 dan dirancang untuk mengurangi keseluruhan emisi debu pabrik lebih dari 40 persen.

Kami merundingkan Kesepakatan Kerja Bersama untuk masa dua tahun dengan Serikat Pekerja. Kesepakatan iniditandatangani di Soroako pada tanggal 14 Desember 2000.

Kami terus memusatkan perhatian kepada pengembangan karyawan melalui pendekatan GP3 (GrowPeople/Giatkan pengembangan pagawai; Grow Production/Gandakan profit) kami yang menjadi bagian rutin daricara kami menjalankan usaha. Nickel's versatility and unique combination of properties make itubiquitous in everyday life. It is both hard and malleable, resist corrosion,and retains its mechanical and physical characteristics even whensubjected to extreme temperatures. The white-gray metal, whichultimately is produced from PT INCO's matte product, is known as"primary" nickel because it is derived principally from nickel ores.

Stainless steel currently accounts for about two-thirds of annual WesternWorld primary nickel consumption, up from about 50 percent a decadeago. Stainless steels are iron based alloys containing more than 11 percent chromium nickel.

From the facades of skyscrapers to computer floppy disks, stainless steelis integral to thousand of products. In kitchen and food processing plants,handling equipment is often made from nickel-containing stainless steelbecause stainless steel can be readily cleaned.

Low Alloy steels with an average of less than one percent nickel are usedin products such as girders for building and bridges, as well as tools andelectrical applications.

Non-ferrous alloys - containing nickel and little or no iron - areincorporated in aircraft engine parts and other high performancecomponents. Coinage is another common application. Foundry industrycastings can be made of iron alloys, steel alloys or non-ferrous alloys.Giant valves at power plants and the huge propellers that drive cruiseships are typical of castings that contain nickel.

Finally, there are many non-alloying uses of primary nickel. It is anexcellent choice for electroplating product such as metal furniture. Nickelsalts are used as catalyst for the petrochemical industry. Nickel cadmiumbatteries and nickel metal hydride rechargeable batteries are found inmany products with high growth rates, including power tools, computer,video cameras, and cellular phones.
