With the cloud, Outra can run a reliable and scalable IT operation. Worboys says: “The uptime, availability, and security provided by AWS help us to be very competitive in the marketplace.” Why Talend? Talend Cloud Big Data enables data ingestion into Snowflake. Talend Cloud Data Quality matches and cleans data from the various sources.

“With Talend, I can access data in Snowflake in real time without waiting for an update,” Worboys explains. “This capability, as well as the ability to process vast volumes of structured and unstructured data, is a huge benefit to our customers.”

She continues, “We also like the different algorithms Talend provides out of the box. We can tailor the matching keys or algorithms to suit a particular client’s needs. We can either tighten or loosen the tolerances using built-in Talend algorithms. Talend provides a lot of flexibility.”

Staying competitive with fast client delivery times Worboys says: “If a client comes with an urgent request, we always turn it around quickly.” Talend has enabled Outra to reduce delivery times to clients from months to weeks or days. Worboys uses the example of a large casual dining group to illustrate how Outra works.

“The chain provides Outra with its transactional data and customer data, which is matched with Outra’s own proprietary property data and geodemographic segmentations,” she explains.

“Through data science, we can provide analytics on, for example, what age group visits a particular restaurant at a particular time, the customer makeup of a particular store, why customers go to a store, and what variables—such as coupons, promotions, menu variety, children’s menus—drive customers to certain local stores.”

And the same applies for many other industries. In the insurance sector, for example, using Outra’s proprietary property data, such as the number of bedrooms and bathrooms in a house and heating installation and type of materials the house is built on, analytics can better predict risk factors and scores of the members for potential insurance claims.

For its telecommunication or energy customers, Outra can predict when people are going to move to a new house and will need broadband or energy supply, based on the predicted number of people living in the house and their age.

With this success, Outra is suddenly experiencing a big push of new customers due to the way it performs data ingestion with Talend, Snowflake, and AWS.

Worboys concludes. “Talend enables us to meet the different needs of multiple clients. I expect Outra to have a long and productive relationship with Talend.”
