Another year has nearly rolled by once more and as I get older they seem to fly by even faster. I think it is fair to say that 2016 has been a challenging year for many. As businesses we all face a challenging landscape of political and economic uncertainty in what is ever increasingly a global market. Consumer confidence is taking a battering and I can only envisage a prolonged rollercoaster ride in the UK as BREXIT is negotiated with Europe.

I remain confident for the industry as ultimately we sell endorphins and everyone loves them and they will prevail. We just need to act and think smart. Retailing is a skill and bloody hard work and the industry could easily be accused of not being the most proactive when it comes to retailing. For many years consumers have just come to bike shops without huge amount of effort needing to be exerted. However, these days, other retailers are getting so much more sophisticated in attracting the ever pressured disposable income of the general public.

For 2017 we need to make it all our new year’s resolution to be more creative and proactive in getting more people into bike shops and spending money and learning from the more successful high street retailers. It’s not all down to the internet and discounting!

I hope you all manage to get some time off over Christmas to spend with your friends and family and above all to get some rest. Everyone at Madison thanks you for your custom and wishes you all a very Merry Christmas and a healthy and prosperous New Year.

CYCLIQ

Cycliq, makers of innovative cycling accessories is pleased to announce that Madison is to be their new exclusive distributor here in the United Kingdom.

Madison will begin working with Australian-based Cycliq with immediate effect. Known for its brilliant HD camera and bike light combo, Cycliq is a brand that found early success with Kickstarter. The brand successfully funded two of its formative products, Fly6 and Fly12, both of which smashed their fundraising targets by 281% and 273% respectively.

Since its success on the crowd-funding platform, the brand has gone from strength to strength soon becoming one of the first Kickstarter launched companies to publically list when they float on the Australian ASX listing this month. Cycliq is now looking to Madison to support the company in their already successful growth and development. Madison has considerable experience in the sports technology market, having worked with some of

the world’s most recognizable technology brands, helping them achieve significant growth in the UK.

Every Cycliq product is thoughtfully designed from start to finish. Cycliq’s flagship Fly12 has received plaudits from across the globe. The camera features both a 1080p HD camera and a 400 Lumen Bike Light. The two are combined into a neat package that is no bigger than many standalone bike lights. Fly12 combines a number of safety focused features such as ‘Incident Capture Technology’, which auto saves footage when it detects a crash, with more social led features such as their CycliqPlus app which allows you to share footage with friends from your phone.

Andrew Hagen, CEO at Cycliq, said: “We’re extremely happy to be partnering with Madison here in the UK. Madison has a wealth of experience in the cycling industry with unprecedented reach into the independent dealer network. With their experience in technology, I’m confident we have chosen the right partner to support our

development as a business.”

More recently, Cycliq launched a new Kickstarter campaign for its Duo Mount as a thank you to those backers that helped to fund Fly12 and Fly6. Duo Mount is a lightweight and super strong bike mount that attaches both a cycling computer and action camera to a bike. In just 30 days during November, Duo Mount easily surpassed its target of AU$20,000, reaching a final amount of AU$76,678.

Dominic Langan, CEO at Madison, said: “We are incredibly excited about working with Cycliq. Having had such success already, we are confident that we can take the brand to the next level with our ever-expanding network of retailers here in the UK. The products are fantastic and the way the public have responded to Kickstarter shows what a great job the brand is already doing. We can’t wait to get started.”

STEALTH NUTRITIONINTRODUCING STEALTH TRAINING MIX

In 2016 Stealth was asked by one of the pro tour teams it was supporting to produce a slow release carbohydrate energy drink to support fat burning rides as in the past these rides were often done fasted using no carbohydrate fizz tabs which can result in muscle loss and tiring energy lows.

Research using slow release carbohydrates like isomaltulose (palatinose) and resistant starches suggest that it is possible to support enhanced fat burning whilst sustaining background energy levels ( E.g. König et al 2015)

Training Mix combines slow release carbohydrates with our race proven electrolyte and vitamin mix and is available in 3 great tasting low acid flavours.

OUTDOOR TECH POWER BANKSKODIAK POWER BANKS

The all new Kodiak Power bank range is in stock and has improved on what was already a winning offering. The new more streamlined shape and attractive colours are instantly attractive for those who need power on the move. These power banks are waterproof and now have a torch added for extra light when fiddling with pesky USB ports in the dark. The Kodiak Plus has a 10000 mAh power offering which will charge your smartphone up to 6 times and is now £20 cheaper than the previous version. The Kodiak 2.0 has also been given a beef up with the addition of a second charging port and the Kodiak Mini offers the perfect power to give your phone one full charge.
