NEWSLETTER
FROM THE PRINCIPAL’S DESK
Thank you everyone for your support in Term Three. Modifying our extra curricular programs has
ensured the continuation of all activities whilst complying with both the Education and Health
Departments guidelines .
I would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a restful and safe holiday. Monday 12 October is a
Professional Development Day, students return on Tuesday 13 October.
Board Chair
Congratulations to Darren who was elected as our new Board Chair .
Thank you to David for his input as our interim Board Chair. It has not been an easy time to navigate and
we wish him well in his new position at WAPPA. I’m hoping that he will still be able to contribute as a
board member as his input is appreciated and always considered. His vast experience and advice is always helpful and respected.
COVID Update
School Preparedness
In the latest COVID update from the Department of Education it stated that, “Western Australia’s recent low numbers of
COVID-19 and no community transmission is encouraging. However, we cannot become complacent and need to ensure schools
are best placed to continue the provision of education to students should we encounter further disruption.”
During the Professional Development Day teachers will be planning for an online learning environment, in preparation for any
future disruption.
Drop Off and Pick up
Given the positive outcomes for our students being dropped off at the school gate, I would encourage all parents to continue this
practice even when we move to Phase Five, scheduled for October 24. We will continue as we have in Term Three, where the
requirement is still two square metres physical distancing and continued extra cleaning for play equipment and classrooms.
The parents of the Year One, Two and FLDC students come onto the school grounds, in the afternoons from 3.00 to collect
children. Any parent with a pre-arranged meeting with a teacher is also able to come onto the school grounds. Please arrange a
meeting with a teacher to continue good communication and connectedness. Even just for a catch up and a glance at your child’s
work.
It has been requested that all other parents meet their children on the perimeter of the school grounds, Kindy and Pre Primary
students are collected at the gate.
Children must leave the school immediately at the conclusion of the school day, playing on the play equipment is not permitted, because of extra cleaning of this equipment.
Any parents on the school site must adhere to physical distancing rules and must leave the school grounds as soon as possible.
National Science Week
Congratulations to all of the children who entered the Science competition and in particular the winners. Thank you once again to Mr Tisdale who provided the fabulous science activities for the week.
Drop off at “the school gate” continues
Changes to Special Events
As a school we always endeavour to consider all stakeholders; students, parents and staff when making changes to school routines and special events, whilst also complying with Department of Education guidelines. It has been interesting to review the many extracurricular activities that we are involved in and organise.
Graduation
The Education Department instructed schools that all graduation venues must be large enough to maintain the two square metre
physical distance guidelines, for all guests. The function room at Melville Glades Golf Course does not allow us to comply with
these restrictions. In order to still provide a lovely memory for our students we considered:
Venue size Maintaining the same or similar format for the formal part of the ceremony Maintaining the disco and meal Ensuring extended families were adequately catered for Ensuring that parents only need take minimal time off from work Providing parents adequate time to make arrangements Limiting the expense for families
After much discussion the graduation venue and times were changed.
The graduation ceremony will commence at 5.00pm sharp on Thursday 10 December 2020 at Bull Creek Primary School. After the ceremony the children will travel by bus to Melville Glades Golf Course. At Melville Glades the children will enjoy their graduation dinner and dance.
Parents will then collect their child at 8.00pm from the Melville Glades Golf Course.
Book Week Parade
The dates for Book Week 2020 were changed by the Children's Book Council of
Australia from Term Three to Term Four. As we are participating in Swimming Lessons
at this time and because physical distancing rules still apply we could not safely have
the Book Week Parade. Students will still have access to this year's book nominees,
participate in class activities for Book Week as well as receiving a 2020 Children’s Book
Week bookmark. The Year Six students will organise a dress up day (Dress as your
favourite book character) in Week Three of Term Four following swimming lessons.
Faction Athletics
Everyone had a wonderful day at the Athletics Carnival with the weather being particularly kind to us. Thank you to all the parents who were able to support our athletes and to Mr Ellis for the wonderful program and organisation. Carnivals are successful because of the time and effort of the staff and the training that occurs prior to these events, thank you to everyone involved.
Congratulations to Blue Faction and to our Champions and Runners Up and all the competitors for once again displaying such wonderful sportsmanship and team spirit.

Faction Athletics Carnival 2020
The competition was between our four factions - Gold, Red, Green and Blue.
The athletics carnival was held over two days - September 9 and 11.
On the Wednesday we saw amazingly talented throwers, jumpers and runners who all did very well.
Friday was a fantastic day when all the students participated with enthusiasm and to the best of their ability. They
displayed great eagerness and cheered loudly for their faction. The main highlights of the day were the displays of
great sportsmanship and the competitive tug-of-war.
Compliments to all participants and particular congratulations to the Champions and Runners-up.
We are very thankful to all the parents, teachers and students who helped out and organized the carnival. An
especially big thank you to Mr Ellis for all his hard work in planning a most successful day.

WATTLE 2
WATTLE 4 What a busy but fun term we have had in Wattle Four. We hit the ground running with our Cross Country and Faction Carnival events and boy did all that training pay off. We were all superstars and displayed great sportsmanship. Wattle Four hosted the first Junior School assembly, singing a beautiful Noongar song Wanjoo (Welcome). Our class dressed in the aboriginal colours of red, yellow and black. It was so lovely to have all our parents come and watch. In Literature, Mrs Austin read us one of her favourite novels, Charlotte’s Web by E.B White. (She only cried a little bit) We then watched the movie to make comparisons. Chloe’s most favourite part of the story was when Wilbur saved the egg sack. “I really enjoyed this part because there was a lot of emotions. There was anger, sadness and rage. It made me feel all those feelings at once. When you mix those feelings together, you feel like a volcano has just erupted in your heart. I was angry when Templeton said he didn’t want to help Wilbur get the egg sack. I was sad when Charlotte said she couldn’t come back with them and I was in rage when Templeton started to mimic Wilbur because all Wilbur wanted was the egg sack to be collected safely and returned to the barn with them.” Mr H used his artistic talents and painted us a mural to hang in our classroom. Isn’t he clever! We have been learning how to write Persuasive texts using strong, convincing words. Some topics we have covered that you may like to share your opinions on at home are: everyone should have a pet, the best game is…, students shouldn’t have to do homework and camping is better than staying in a hotel. Mrs Austin is still not convinced about the last one though. Finally, and most importantly we have been working hard to display our school values every day, both inside and outside the classroom. Mrs Austin Wattle 4 Teacher
It has been a very busy term for Wattle Two. Towards the beginning of the term
we taught the senior students how to stretch properly as part of our assembly
item, ‘The Stretch Song’.
Maths has been action packed, learning about multiplication, division, statistics,
symmetry and different shapes. We have completed a variety of fun activities,
including making symmetrical aliens and shape drawings.
In English we have been developing our story writing skills. We finished the term
by writing our own, highly imaginative, stories about ‘The Night Zoo’.
In HASS we have been learning about Australia and have made our very own books about Western Australia.
All of this, and we still managed to find time every Friday afternoon to train for the athletics carnival. What a great
term we have had!!

BANKSIA 4
In B4 late into this term we have been indulging our obsession for the Rubix Cube.
It might sound like games and fun but we realised there’s actually so much more to it.
In our attempts to solve the Rubix puzzle we have built our team work skills, used our brains and incorporated a lot of the Bull Creek Values;
Respect – respect other kid’s property and people that can’t solve it yet – Aria.
Inclusivity – sharing and making sure everyone gets a fair go at solving it – Layla.
Excellence – trying your best – Rissah.
Resilience – keep trying, they are challenging, if you can’t don’t give up – Jemma.
Care - take care of both your friends and your rubix cube – Noah.
Responsibility – making good choices about when to practice problem solving the cube and not allow yourself to be distracted by it when it’s learning time – Mrs A.
Pride – when you accomplish it you feel proud – James.
Freedom – there’s more than one way to solve it – Charlie.
Honesty—f you can’t solve it and just ask for help – Jasper.
Integrity – Being kid and helpful, no put downs, showing respect for those who don’t want to be involved. – B4
