REFLECTIONS… ‘What Does Roger Do in a Green Week?’

I am in the process of sorting out thousands ofdigital photographs amassed over many years.Yesterday I came across a set I took whilstclimbing in the Southern Alps around April or Mayof 2010. I was building stamina towards a guidedice-climb for November/December, but thankfully Inever made that climb. reality in October 2010 and I ensure they areplotted up to a year ahead in my personalcalendars, and plotted for all to see on theBranch Calendars. But I only had one GreenWeek before news of the heart issues wasidentified. My life took on a new priority: survival.

Following surgery then came another significantchallenge in the form of the devastatingearthquake of 22 February which took manylives, and damaged 19 Lamb of God memberhomes mainly in the Burwood Cluster. My recuperation period from December surgery was to run through until April before I re-engaged full work. The reality was full work was re-engaged from the earthquake hittingand just ten weeks after surgery. However this made the engaging and disciple of GreenWeeks for me an absolute priority- and in the near two years since I have observed thisdiscipline every month. And I feel so much better.

The basis of my Green Week each month is: Icould be at home or away from home but I willnot schedule any branch or international travel, Iwill take more time for Scriptural/Study materialsand books, I will take time in preparation forupcoming talks or conferences, and take moretime to exercise every day. Generally I will slowmy pace for the week and do things differently. At the same time I will attend every SundayGathering but will not schedule any othermeeting for this week. And every incoming callwill run to the answer machine in order for me to

assess what is priority and what is not.

I am on a Green Week right now and certainly key leaders and our National Councilwould see no slackening of attention to emails and other matters of importance but thatis because I am an early riser and by 11.00am I could easily have given six hours ofattention to these matters. But as for the rest of the days in this particular week, let thefour photographs tell their story:Photo 1 A long walking [two hour’s minimum a day]Photo 2 Considering matters- ‘Who built this, when and why?’- All things shall passPhoto 3 Getting closer to nature [Mr Quail visits every day with his family]Photo 4 Sitting and pondering the Greatness of God in Scripture and daily reality

SOUTH ISLAND SISTERS MEET AT HANMER SPRINGS

Early November the sisters from severalbranches in the South Island, together with ourgood friends from the Light of ChristCommunity, again gathered for our AnnualWomen Retreat at beautiful Hanmer Springs, located in the foothills of the mountains, andcomplete with many hot thermal pools. Ourtheme was ‘The Women who Followed Jesus’.Both talks covered examples of women offaithfulness and courage who had enduredmany trials. The Biblical women who literallyfollowed Jesus were featured as were Abigailand Susanna Wesley- both women of courage, integrity, honour and serenity. Following thetalks the sisters had long times of sharing anddiscussion in small groups. Saturday eveningwas time for a worship and ministry and was avery blessed time. This year three of ouryounger sisters came along and I had theprivilege of leading them in a small sharinggroup. It was a blessing to see how the Lord is

raising up the next generation of women to be a force for him in this land. May His namebe praised.

WEST AUCKLAND SPECIAL GATHERING – OCTOBER 28

On 28th of October, the WestAuckland group had a ‘festive’fellowship! There were threeevents that were celebrated:1. It was the first Lamb of Godmeeting of Baby Shanya whoturned a month old that very day!Shanya is the first child of Priyanand Anusha Jayamaha;2. Prasad De Zoysa was recentlybaptised – a joyous milestone for him and his family;3. And Judy and Allen Carneiro had celebrated their Silver Wedding on 24 October.

60’S PLUS EVENT – AUCKLAND BRANCH

O God, from my youth you have taught me, and I still proclaim your wondrous deeds. Soeven to old age and gray hairs, O God, do not forsake me, until I proclaim your might toanother generation, your power to all those to come. [Psalms 71:17-18]

We can certainly confirm that Saturday, the 3rd November 2012 resonated the abovebeautiful canto, when the Auckland Elders and the “A Team” hosted “an evening for theover 60’s.” We guess we don't mind being old, if it means having so much fun!!

It was an evening to remember. What started out with a bowl of soup three years agohas now graduated to a tipple, a three course meal cooked by the finest Lamb of Godculinary experts and topped with the best desserts to boot. All served by our very ownsmiling Auckland branch members, who went out of their way to make us feel special.

The evening commenced with the Lord’s Day prayers and onto a heavy and sumptuousmeal. One would have thought we should have been sent off to bed, but to the contrary,we were all agog when a clip from Jake Hess’ “I just love old people” showed up on thescreen. Then a quiz on AGE…..sure, the grey cells matched the grey hair!!!

Our very own (Neville and Carol) ‘NEVROL DUO’ put back the hands of time when theystruck up melodies from the “good old days” - had the crowd on the floor dancing andsome even doing the line dance to the music of the waltz. It didn’t matter at all…wewere having a ball! Time to say goodnight, did take a lot of hugs and kisses and a fewtears too, only to be met at the door with a warm send off like all “kiddie parties withgoodie bags” and it was a “goodie bag” of sorts. Some of us who were impatient, couldn’t wait to open their packets and what an awesome surprise….. we were all blownaway with the contents. Letters and notes, affirmations obtained from around the worldwritten by all who mattered to us, expressed what was in their hearts andminds….(maybe who could not do so personally), now penned it to paper withsentiments and love that would keep us going for many years. !!! We are sure each andevery one of the Elders and the “A Team” took a lot of effort in getting this wonderfulevening together and to each and every one of you … you all did very well and a BIGTHANK YOU. YOU ROCK!!! Blanche Fernandes – Hollingsworth

The Lamb of God Community made us; the ‘above 60’ feel very proud and honoured onthe 3rd of November 2012 with this great gesture of a celebration. This is the 3rdconsecutive year of celebration which brought back memories of past celebrations. Many of us in the ‘60+’ are in the autumn and winter of our lives. We have our ownfears, weaknesses and insecurities. Most of the members of the group are in thesummer and spring of their lives. By their love and kindness they radiate warmth thattends to shield us from the cold of winter!

Besides the good dinner, games and sing songs of yesteryears, we were given asurprise when we left at the close of the function – a hat to shield us from the scorchingsun, chocolate to chew at leisure and a pocket radio to keep us up to date with the latesthappenings. Last but not the least a package of letters, e-mails and cards from our kids, grandkids, friends and relations showing their appreciation and love of us! We willcherish this precious ‘gift’ all the days of our lives. Our prayers and blessings to all whoarranged and helped in this wonderful evening! Lucy Misquita

WELLINGTON BRANCH RESOLUTION NIGHT

The day before last Father’s day in September, six courageous men of the Wellingtonbranch gave a gift to their families – they made a public commitment to be the best dadsand husbands to their families. Inspired by the movie ‘Courageous,’ the brothers madethis topic the theme for their men’s retreat last June and followed it up with their recentresolution night. Dinner and fellowship followed the ceremonies.

CHALLENGES IN LIVING TOGETHER AS COMMUNITYResource for House Group Discussion by Tom Caballes

Y.O.L.O – You Only Live OnceDecember 2012

Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, making the bestuse of the time, because the days are evil. [Ephesians 5:15-16]

Example of real-life #YOLO Tweets: Just ran a red light right beside the police station #YOLO.

The acronym YOLO [You only live once] is a popular catchphrase among the teens and youngeradults. Many times it is used as a way of justifying reckless, fearless and ‘wild’ lifestyle withoutcare for its future consequences. It becomes a moral compass for many young people - withdisastrous outcomes. But the Bible says many things about YOLO – in particular, living our liveswell. We only have one short life that we will account for one day. The Bible encourages us tolive our one life well as disciples of Jesus.

So How Do We Apply the Principle of YOLO Biblically?1. Live your life with a purpose. All of us are busy – but are we busy with the ‘right things?’Having principles and goals in life is a first step – and then prioritise and order your life based onyour purpose, principles and goals. A life with a purpose is a life well spent.2. Aim to live a life pleasing to God. Why? Only God can give us lasting joy. The world offers ustemporary and fleeting pleasures which at the end of the day, disappoints. “Our hearts arerestless until they rest in You O Lord.” [Augustine]3. We need to choose are our close friends well. Are they supportive of our desire to live a lifepleasing to God? Our friends can make us or break us – choose them well. If they do not knowGod try to share God with them. They also live only once.4. Give yourself fully to what you do for God; put passion in all your endeavours. So … whateveryou do, do all to the glory of God. [1 Corinthians 10:31]5. Think: if you will do something; will you regret it later? In this one life, there are some mistakeswe will live with for the rest of our lives – don’t do them!6. The truth is, one day we will account for our lives. The one life that God has given us is notmeant only to be just spent well on earth, but it is a springboard to a ‘full’ life with God in heaven.

In conclusion – yes, we only live once. But we are meant to live our lives well for God here andnow, so that the one life we have, we can live it forever in eternity! #YOLOL4G - You Only LiveOnce - Live for God.

Other Scripture References1. For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will find it.For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and forfeits his soul? Or what shall a mangive in return for his soul? [Matthew 16:25-26]2. I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And thelife I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.[Galatians 2:20]3. Other Scripture references: Isaiah 55:6; Romans 12:1-2; Romans 13:11-14.

For Personal Reflection and Group Sharing:1. Have I really thought of that phrase “you only live once?” In what way do I think it works in

my life now?2. What can I do to follow the principle of “You Only Live Once - Live for God?”

PRAYERWATCH - SOLDIERS OF CHRIST, ARISE

Fight the good fight

Over the past year I have looked at the importance of understanding the vision of God’scall to live our lives as a ‘Community of Disciples on Mission’. The vision that we are anarmy involved in a spiritual battle and the Prayerwatch is at the fore front of this battle.Next I looked at the need to be unified so we stand as one in all we do. As a sign ofunity the love we have for our brothers and sisters in the Lamb of God Community is animportant witness to the world. God has called us to be in the world but not of the worldhence the need we have to be an army involved in a spiritual battle. Our lifestyle as acommunity should be the most attractive there is, as our mission is to draw others to thislifestyle of community God has calls us to.

Just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her to make her holy, cleansingher by the washing with water through the word, and to present her to himself as aradiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless.Ephesians 5: 25-27 NIV

Paul’s description of the church is why we should be the most attractive organization orthe most attractive people as we are sons and daughters of God. We are a people whomove with the power of the Holy Spirit, who is the life blood of this living army. As anliving army on the move we need a vision, a prophetic ministry, a unity, love and beauty, the power of the Holy Spirit as we rise up to serve in the Lord’s army as a ‘Community ofDisciples on Mission.’ Soldiers of Christ: ARISE.

If you have any comments or questions concerning the Prayerwatch then please sendthem to me or give them to one of your branch leaders to send to me. God bless andwatch over you all.
