Background

What is Indian Canyon? Indian Canyon is the only federally recognized “Indian Country” between

Big Sur and San Francisco Served as a save haven for the Ohlone Natives who sought refuge from the

mission collonialization and cultural genocide act of (date) Currently open for those in need of ceremony and education

Why for Indian Canyon? Indian Canyon is the land base where Costanaon Indian Research is hosted.

(501c3 – for the local lineal descendents of the land – Ohlone Territory) Indian Canyon has had very small web presence, which limits potential

networking – donations – volunteers – and education of the local residents who may not know “We Are Still Here” - as well as other natives who are need of land to conduct ceremony

Beneficiaries

Who does this help? Costanoan Indian Research 501c3 Care takers of Indian Canyon –– seeking donations and volunteers

to help maintain this haven Native Americans in need of land to facilitate ceremonies and

gatherings Visitors, International travelers, instructors, interns, students,

volunteers who come to learn/help/teach/observe and understand (about Ohlone Native Americans, Spirituality, Nature, Culture & Traditions, recognizing “We Are Still Here”)

Project Overview

Informing Indian Canyon’s audience of it’s history, current events & notable occurrences, along with documentation (of occurring & past events)

Presentation of current multimedia (new videos, digital images, graphic arts, etc. )

Maintenance of Indian Canyon’s web presence is vital for the grass roots non-profit organization (Costanoan Indian Research)

Maintaining social media outlets for Indian Canyon (Facebook, Twitter, Flickr, Vimeo, Youtube, Blog)

Project Development

By utilizing current web development and graphic design software, such as: HTML, CSS, JavaScript, jQuery, Flash media, PHP, Illustrator,

Photoshop, along with Open Source something or other

Integration of social media along with a strong focus on networking (along with constant upkeep of social media outlets encouraging Event promotion, new projects, etc.)

To create an interactive educational and informal site designed to keep Indian Canyon’s audience along with other visitors in the loop with the “Current Going’s On” along with a brief history of Indian Canyon

Current Additions

Kanyon Sayers-Roods in collaboration with Community Works has been interviewing, documenting, and moving forward with a new project: focusing on Cultural Revitalization

Kanyon took on a web project – labeling it the Youth Blog (www.indiancanyonlife.org/youthblog)

Aimed to share the progress of the project, along with interviews of Ohlone Youth, videos concerning revitalization of our culture/traditions/way of life

To be recognized in the eyes of our audience, reminding them “We Are Still Here”
