Before going into higher
education, Dr. Jack Brady,
Assistant Professor of
Criminal Justice, served
as a police officer in Texas.
After September 11, he
counseled police, fire, and
EMS workers at Ground
Zero on several occasions.
As a professor, Brady
seeks to model Christ and
develop young people
into becoming Christian
leaders in the criminal
justice system. “The one
thing I hope students will
walk away with is that
their personal relationship
with Christ is the most
important thing they can
ever do, and only through
Him can we become the
leaders we need to be,”
said Brady.

Dr. Aly Williams, Director
of Academic Advising and
Associate Professor of
Exercise Science, returned
to IWU to help students
discover their life calling
and how that calling can
be fulfilled through their
academic career. “Many
students enter college
with a major in mind or
a potential job they wish
to pursue. My hope is that
students truly take time to
examine their God-given
gifts and talents and
then discover how they
might use those talents to
glorify God.”

“The most segregated
hour of Christian America
is eleven o’clock on Sunday
morning.” Despite many
years of progress, the
church still deals with
some deep-seated racial
problems. In his book
“Christians and the Color
Line,” Dr. Rusty Hawkins
analyzes this racial
divide and looks at what
successful multiethnic
congregations have
already done. “It’s about
becoming aware of
the structures of the
society around us,”
Hawkins said.

Associate Professor of
Biology Dr. Matthew
Sattley and his students
study the lives and
behavior of bacteria from
the bottom of the world.
Sattley and his team are
studying how Antarctic
lake organisms cycle
nutrients. “Even though
these lakes are right
around the freezing point
of water, the organisms
tend to grow better if
you warm them,” Sattley
said. He’s not really sure
what that means yet; the
bacteria may have come
from somewhere else. It’s
questions like these that
drive Sattley’s passion
for research.
Todd Williams is a
saxophonist who has
played with some of the
best jazz musicians in
the world, in venues like
Lincoln Center in New York
and even the White House.
But, he’s also a man of
faith. He took a break from
performing for a while to
work as the music director
of Times Square Church.
He came to IWU because
he felt a call to teach,
he told the IWU student
newspaper, The Sojourn.
Williams’ three passions
of teaching, faith, and
performance fit together
perfectly at IWU.

Biology, Physics, Chemistry, Computer Science, Math, Nursing, Occupational
Therapy and Athletic Training students share space and knowledge by learning
together in the Ott Hall of Sciences and Nursing.
“There’s a decent chance that a physical therapist would work with an athletic
trainer, or an occupational therapist would work with somebody in public health,”
said Dr. Aly Williams, associate professor of exercise science. “Any time you can
put together a program where those types of students would intermix, you’re
creating a dynamic that really doesn’t exist anywhere else.”
IWU’s nursing program, the largest within the Council for Christian Colleges and
Universities (CCCU), is nationally recognized. IWU is building on that reputation
to become one of the leading Christian schools for scientific education. You can
get in on the ground floor of our growth.
Research is a foundational component of IWU’s science programs. With expanded
facilities and resources, more students conduct scientific research on their own.
Students have hands-on experience actually doing what they’ve been learning
about in books and in classes. You might even see your name in print on a
published scientific paper before you graduate.

ARE SAYING ABOUT IWU
“Not only have acquaintances become friends and then brothers and sisters in Christ, but I have also found much of God’s formative grace through the opportunities to be involved at IWU. I have benefitted richly from professors who clearly have so much heart in their subjects. And I have witnessed one more chapter of the small story God has used to weave together His larger narrative.”
“My diploma represents more than a degree. IWU became my home away from home, new friends became family, and a major became my beloved career. I am forever grateful that my advisors and professors helped me find my true passion for Communication and encouraged me in my vision to serve the Lord with my degree.”
“My time at IWU has been life changing, from helping me grow spiritually, to helping me discover my life calling in Social Work. I was blessed in so many ways throughout my time here educationally, spiritually and personally. I could not have asked for a better college experience.”

Grad Year: 2012
Career: Entrepreneur | Indianapolis, IN
Barely a year out of college, Santiago Jaramillo
found himself joining an elite group: Inc magazine’s
list of “30 Under 30” entrepreneurs for 2013. In
college, he founded Bluebridge to create mobile
apps for small businesses and churches, making
more than $100,000 in his senior year alone. In
2016, Santiago sold Bluebridge’s church and
tourism business for $8 million. Since then, he has
shifted his focus to founding Emplify, a growing
company that provides businesses with an app
designed to increase employee engagement.
“I do what I do because I love it,” said Santiago. “I think that’s success to me, getting to do what I love every single day of my life.”

Grad Year: 2013
Career: Elementary Teacher | Tulsa, OK
During a teaching practicum, Amy Eikenberry
found herself moved by a boy who had been
through more in his five years of life than she
had in her 20. She had become his one piece of
consistency in a life that was anything but. That
experience led her to apply to Teach for America,
an organization that offers a two-year training
program with the purpose of providing quality
education for all students—especially in high
priority areas. Amy was placed in Tulsa, Oklahoma
where she teaches special needs education.
“I have been able to watch so many students gain confidence in themselves, believing they are something, believing they have a future.”
NAVAR WATSONMajor: Convergent Journalism
Grad Year: 2016
Career: Private English Tutor | Bilbao, Spain
Upon graduation, Navar Watson began working as a
general assignment reporter for a local newspaper.
He wrote two to three articles each day, which
included hard news stories, in-depth feature stories
and crime stories. He even won statewide awards
for his articles. After several years of working as
a journalist, Navar accepted a new position as a
private English tutor in Bilbao, Spain. Using the
skills he honed as a reporter, Navar now gives one-
on-one English lessons to children, teenagers and
adults of various English learning levels.
“IWU equipped me to succeed by helping me realize my gifts and strengths, and how to use them well,” said Navar. “It helped me develop a confidence in myself and my work I wouldn’t have had otherwise.”

SPIRITUAL LIFE
The nearly 3,800-seat Chapel
Auditorium is the center of spiritual
life, hosting chapel services three
times a week.
Dedicated space for prayer can
be found in the Williams Prayer
Chapel, the upper floor of the
Chapel Auditorium and in each
Residence Hall.
We believe that spiritual
transformation involves not only an
inward experience of God’s grace
in our lives, but also an outward
expression of love and compassion
for others.
John Wesley taught that every
Christian has an obligation to
serve the poor, destitute, sick
and imprisoned. We accept that
responsibility enthusiastically.
Don’t wait until you graduate to
start transforming the world. You
have the ability to make positive
real-world change now.

A GUIDE TO FINANCIAL AID
You’re worth the investment. A college degree increases your earning potential by 67 percent.*
So don’t let the initial price tag scare
you. Actual out-of-pocket costs for
IWU often equal or are close to public
institutions. IWU provides merit- and
need-based financial aid on top of
federal and state funds that offset
tuition. IWU’s graduation rates are
higher, which also lowers your cost
and gets you started on your career or
graduate school sooner.
IWU is the first and only CCCU school
to offer student financial discipleship
mentoring through the NEXUS
Financial Discipleship Center - a
part of the IWU Ron Blue Institute
for Financial Planning. NEXUS
peer coaches, trained in financial
goal development, budgeting,
credit, investing, managing debt,
and student loan planning and
repayments, will lead one-on-one
student coaching sessions designed
to help students make and sustain
healthy financial decisions.

THE VALUE OF A PRIVATE CHRISTIAN UNIVERSITYThe annual Council for Christian Colleges and
Universities (CCCU) tuition study confirms
that member institutions continue to offer an
excellent value in comparison to other private
four-year U.S. colleges. Not only are CCCU
colleges less expensive, annual increases in
tuition and fees are growing at a slower rate
than other private four-year colleges.
IWU’S 2017-2018 TUITION WAS:• $8,760 below the national average for all
private four-year institutions
• $1,486 below the average tuition of all
CCCU institutions
• $1,683 below the average tuition of all
Indiana CCCU member institutions
