Vision and Outreach Activities
• Published TSDSI Vision :TSDSI’s vision is to ensure that Digital Communication Standards increasingly drive domestic economic and policy activities and enhance India’s competitiveness for ICT goods and services in global markets. It aims to do this by creating a leadership position through India’s participation and contribution to emerging digital communication standards in global SDOs.
• Released a White Paper on “Status of Telecom Start-up Ecosystem in India” on 19th October 2020 • Focused on promoting Standards Driven Research in the Academia, Research and Startup
community as part of our Pre-Standardization Strategy• Continued to forge partnerships with global forums • Launched a TSDSI Expert Talk Series and Outreach workshops for target segments.• Conducted TSDSI Tech Deep Dive Conference 2020, fully online, with the them “Technologies for
the Digitally Driven World”, now in its 3rd year, spanning 8 technical sessions featuring 64 globally renowned speakers, has attracted 500+ participants.

Some Technical Accomplishments (1/2)
• TSDSI Radio Interface Technology (5Gi) is now part of ITU-R Recommendation M.2150• TSDSI Standards on IMT Advanced (corresponding to ITU-R M.2012-4) and transposed one
M2M Rel 2 standards adopted as National Standards by Telecommunications EngineeringCentre (TEC)
• “CPRI Fronthaul Transport” standard developed by TSDSI has been taken up by TEC foradoption as National Standard.
• NavIC (Satellite based Indian Navigation System) is now part of 3GPP Release 16 based onproposal introduced by TSDSI IM.
• As part of its effort in developing Cloud Interoperability & Portability standards, TSDSIsubmitted a technical report to DOT which is now followed by work on developing standards.

Work related to VLC/Lifi in TSDSI• The Study Group-Networks of TSDSI has recently initiated a Study on VLC/Lifi.• This study will cover the current status of existing VLC/LiFi standards, identify gap areas and suggest
possible areas where further standardization activities can be taken up.• The main objective of this study is to identify opportunities for proposing ultra-high speed PHY layer
(10 Gbps+ throughput), MAC layer for multi-user access and handover techniques for hybrid Li-Fi and RF network (Wi-Fi, 4G, 5G)
• This study will also look into several application areas like Telecom Infrastructure, Defence, Building Infrastructure, Transportation, Healthcare, Industry 4.0, IOT etc which can also be improved with the help of Lifi.

Benefits of TSDSI RIT
Rural coverage (exceeding ITU requirements)Affordable
Improved performance only with primarily software changesGlobally inter-operable and compatible
Improved building penetration for NB-IoTImportant for smart cities mission
Device
1. Software changes2. Some vendors
might change PA• Even then,
high volumes in India should maintain price
3. Fully inter-operable (roaming)
Infrastructure
1. Only software changes
2. Inter-operable with devices minus Indian enhancements
Testing
1. One-time investment for additional testing
2. Test equipment manufacturers to incorporate Indian enhancements
3. Impact on cost of network or equipment negligible
Ecosystem Impact
Long-term benefits outweigh the initial work and one-time cost
