INDIVIDUAL ANALYSIS OF HAIR, MAKE UP

AND COSTUME

In this shot you can clearly see that Miranda has lost all her dignity and she is in a very bad place.

Her costume establishes that she is now a patient at the mental hospital she once worked in. It is blue

which may represent her depressed and sad emotions now that she has been admitted. The costume looks grubby and dirty which reflects her current mind set.

In this image, Miranda is a shadow of the woman she once was, she has no makeup on and she looks drained and tired. Her eyes are watery and her skin is grey which is ironic seeing as she is ‘Miranda Grey’

Her hair is bedraggled and

untamed, it is in a bad condition, just like she is.

Just like her hair, she is now seen

as ‘wild.’ This image is a huge contrast to how she was at the

beginning of the trailer, her hair

was neat and tidy and so was her mind, now it is

dishevelled.

Here we have two images of Esther from ‘Orphan’ she looks very different in each...

In this image, Esther is referred to as ‘Little Bow Peep’ by one of her

class mates because of the way she looks. Esther’s use of hair and

makeup make her look childlike, however, in contrast, her costume

is very old fashioned and may refer to the fact that Esther is actually an

old woman.

This image is a still from when Esther tries to seduce her father who adopted her. She has red lipstick on and dark eyes which make her no longer look childlike. She looks very different compared to the opposite image.

In this image we see Anna from ‘The Uninvited’ wearing a white night dress. The white signifies her innocence and purity which is ironic considering the twist that is revealed at the end of the film.

Anna’s messy hair represents her messed

up mind. It is tangled and untamed just like

she is.

Anna’s lack of makeup makes her look childlike and once again innocent and vulnerable which is ironic considering she is not.

In this image, Anna looks all white, the

white dress against her pale skin makes her

look cold and vulnerable. The fact she is dressed like this when

she is outside in the cold may also symbolise her mental state that no

one is aware of at this point in the film: No one

in their right mind would dress like that

when it is cold outside.
