MANAGEMENT PROBLEM
With the advent of technology and with majority of the population using internet to
make purchases, e-commerce has changed the way people buy and businesses sell their
goods and services. However, the sudden eruption of technology and with it e-commerce
has a great impact on the supply chains of the Retail sector.
RESEARCH OBJECTIVE
The research is aimed at gaining knowledge and insights with respect to changing
supply chains concerning the sudden surge of e-commerce in Retail sector.
RESEARCH QUESTIONS
Why will e-commerce have an impact on the supply chains of companies?
Why should all this investment in technology and communication
have an impact on the supply chains of companies?
Where will e-commerce affect the supply chain in the future?
What flows of supply chain are effected by e-commerce ?
How is e-commerce affecting supply chains already?
When will the major impact of e-commerce on supply chains emerge?
What is the future impact of e-commerce that we should be preparing for?
To what degree do the current supply chains needs modifications to cater to e-
commerce ?
Are there any other influencing factors, which along with e-commerce effect the
supply chains ? If yes, what ?

CONCEPTUAL MODEL
INTENDED USE OF RESEARCH OUTCOMES
The research outcome is intended to be used by experts in the fields of supply chain,
e-commerce and also by leaders in the same domain to understand the effect of e-
commerce on supply chain, to work on undesirable effects and to leverage the desirable
effects to the benefit of the organization.
RESEARCH METHOD
The research method will consist of a mix of a quantitative survey and a qualitative
data collection. Therefore, the method of data collection will consist of a quality
questionnaire to all the supply chain managers, experts and operations managers etc. The
qualitative part consists of data being collected from various retailers in the retail industry
that have different supply chains and management.
POPULATION RESEARCH
With 300 for the questionnaire and a 100 for the qualitative data collection, the population
for both research methods vary.

SAMPLE PROCEDURE
Regarding the online questionnaire I will use a non-random sample. Since, the retailers I get
data from and the supply chain experts I get the answers from must be in sync, I would use
non- random sampling.
