Walk With A MissionDown Syndrome Association of Orange County (DSAOC) and National Down Syndrome Society (NDSS) strive to promote acceptance of people with Down syndrome in all aspects of community life. DSAOC works hard to support families and provide the means necessary to empower individuals with Down syndrome to reach their full potential. Join us on our mission to change perceptions so we can change lives.

Walk With A TeamAdd some FUN to your FUNdraising! Organizing a team is a great opportunity to increase awareness, have fun, and raise funds at the same time! Organize a group of your friends, family members, neighbors and co-workers to walk with you and your child.

Give your team a creative name, carry banners or signs, wear hats or buttons. You can even arrange to pick up your team’s T-shirts from the DSAOC Center beginning the week of October 21 so you can add your child’s picture or team name to them.

Ask members of your team to help you achieve your fundraising goal. They can qualify for individual prizes while also helping you win team prizes.

Register and create your own team page at our On-line Walk Center at dsaoc.donordrive.com/event/bw2015/

Raise FundsThe Orange County Buddy Walk helps raise awareness by having a large, public event where we gather in unity showing support for our loved ones with Down syndrome. This event is also a major fundraiser for DSAOC; helping to fund many of our annual programs, services and support groups offered at no cost to our community. A portion of the Buddy Walk proceeds go directly to the National Down Syndrome Society (NDSS) to help fund national research and advocacy programs. Registration fees are kept low, making participation affordable for as many as possible. However, registration fees barely cover the costs of this event. Please consider asking those you know to make a donation toward your team - Thank you!Buddy Walk Sponsorships - your team gets credit!Monetary and in-kind donation sponsorships are avail-able and provide recognition and marketing opportuni-ties. All sponsorship levels include Exhibitor space on the field during the event. Your team can be credited for any sponsors you bring to the event! For more informa-tion, call the DSAOC Center at (714) 540-5794.

Facts About Down Syndrome• Down syndrome is the most commonly occurring genetic condition. One in every 691 babies is born with Down syn-drome, representing more than 400,000 people in the United States.• Down syndrome is a chromosomal condition which usually causes delays in physical and intellectual development. In-dividuals with Down syndrome can also have certain health conditions; many are easily correctable once diagnosed. • Life expectancy for individuals with Down syndrome has increased dramatically in recent years due to early interven-tion, updated healthcare guidelines and increased awareness of medical conditions common in individuals with Down syndrome. It can also be attributed to loving homes, a more positive public image and acceptance in community life.• Individuals with Down syndrome hold jobs, go to school, and make positive contributions to their communities. They carry more traits of their birth family than traits attributed to Down syndrome.

Down Syndrome Association of Orange County ServicesDSAOC serves more than 2,000 families and community members in Orange County and surrounding areas. We also assist educators, health care professionals, researchers and therapists with information, training and support materials. Information and services are provided in English, Spanish and Vietnamese. We put an emphasis on parent education and health care education because we believe knowledge is power, and we believe that children with Down syndrome that grow up healthy are better able to take on educational and vocational opportunities, and actively participate in their communities.New Parent Outreach & Support GroupsInformation & Professional ReferralsPrenatal Diagnosis SupportMulti-media Resource LibraryHealthcare Series SeminarsCHOC Children’s Down Syndrome ProgramCommunity Awareness ProgramsSocial Events & Activities for FamiliesInteractive Website, Blog & Social MediaTeen/Adult Events & ActivitiesDSAOC “Sibshops” for Siblings “Community Corner” Awareness Videos... and much more!
