CatholicCare:
Serving the community for almost 75 years
In November 1940 four inspirational women, Norma Parker and Constance Moffitt (pictured at right), Elvira Lyons and Eileen Davidson worked closely with the Archbishop of Sydney, Norman Gilroy, to establish a Catholic Welfare Bureau to meet the needs of families, children and individuals through the provision of quality services and support.
Support for the family unit has always been central to the services provided by CatholicCare.
Over the years, we have grown substantially. We now:
• deliver well over 100 programs including marriage guidance and support programs, adoption and foster care, aged care, mental health and disability support, programs supporting young people and those experiencing abuse, addictions and homelessness;
• manage a number of Group Homes and conduct transition to work programs for school leavers and job placement programs focusing, in particular, on those who have intellectual or other disabilities and those who have been unemployed for long periods of time;
• provide Chaplaincy programs including support for people in hospitals and correctional institutions.
Our employee number now exceeds 880 and we are fortunate to be supported by well over 200 volunteers. We operate from over thirty principal office sites throughout the Archdiocese.
Our annual budget now exceeds $60,000,000 pa.
We are also fortunate to have a Board of Directors comprised of eminent and highly experienced business executives and clergy who give freely of their time and expertise to support, guide and strengthen CatholicCare.
CatholicCare is a Mission-focussed agency committed to serving the needs of the whole of the community within the Archdiocese of Sydney.

CatholicCare's Person-Centred Framework
A person-centred organisation has people at its heart - both the people it supports and the people it employs. Person-centred approaches see the individual, not the system, as a priority.
CatholicCare seeks to be a leader within the broader human services sector by embedding an explicitly person-centred approach to all of our services. This has been set as a strategic direction in the CatholicCare Sydney Strategic Plan 2013-2016. A key strategy articulated in the plan is the development of a uniquely CatholicCare Person-Centred Framework.
The key elements of the CatholicCare Person-Centred Framework are CatholicCare's Mission, Vision and Values; Code of Ethics and Conduct; Mission Discernment and Decision Making Tool; person-centred approach to the organisation; person-centred approach to service; and Catholic Social Teaching.
This framework articulates the person-centred approach which underpins CatholicCare's culture, procedures, policies and services. The Framework can be accessed on the CatholicCare Intranet.
