Industrial Ethernet (IEEE 802.3 and 802.3u) – The international standard for area networking is currently the number one network in the LAN environment with a share of over 90%.Industrial Ethernet enables powerful communication net-works to be constructed over wide areas.
PROFINET (IEC 61158/61784) –The international standard uses Industrial Ethernet and al-lows real-time communication all the way to the field level, but also integrates the enterprise level. Industrial Ethernet/PROFINETIndustrial Ethernet
Industrial Ethernet offers a powerful area and cell network conforming to IEEE 802.3 (ETHERNET) and IEEE 802.11 a/b/g/h (Wireless LAN) for industrial applications. Ethernet is the basic Internet technology for worldwide networking.
The numerous various options of the intranet, Extranet and Internet that are already available today in the office sector can also be used in factory and process automation by means of the Industrial Ethernet. Ethernet technology, which has been used successfully over many years in com-bination with switching, full-duplex mode and auto- sensing, allows you to match your network's performance to your requirements. You can choose your data through-put rate to suit your particular needs, as integrated com-patibility makes it possible to introduce new technology in stages.
With a current market share of over 90%, Ethernet is num-ber one worldwide in today's LAN landscape.
Ethernet offers important advantages:

The following communication functions/services are offered by Industrial Ethernet:
PG/OP communication
Comprises integrated communication functions which allow SIMATIC, SIMOTION and SINUMERIK automation sys-tems to communicate with every HMI device and SIMATIC PG (STEP 7). PG/OP communication is supported by all networks.
S7 communication
S7 communication is the integrated communication function (System Function Block) for S7-400 or loadable function blocks for S7-300, which have been optimized wi-thinSIMOTION, SINUMERIK and SIMATIC S7/WinAC. It also enables PCs and workstations to be connected. The volume of user data per job is up to 64 KB. The S7 communication provides simple, powerful communication services and a network-independent software interface.
Open IE/S5-compatible communication (SEND/RECEIVE)
The open IE/S5-compatible communication (SEND/ RECEIVE) allows the SIMATIC S7 to communicate with ex-isting systems, primarily with SIMATIC S5, but also with PCs via PROFIBUS and Industrial Ethernet. Industrial Ethernet also provides FETCH and WRITE, so that software created for SIMATIC S5 can continue to be used in unmodified form with SIMATIC S7.

Complete overview of Industrial Ethernet
Standard communication
This involves standardized protocols for data communica-tion, e.g. FTP. Fail-safe communication is also possible via Industrial Ethernet.
OPC (OLE for Process Control)is a standardized, open, vendor-independent interface. It allows OPC-capable Windows applications to be con-nected to the S7 communication, S5-compatible communi-cation (SEND/RECEIVE) andPROFINET.
Information technology (IT) with e-mail and webtechnologyintegrates SIMATIC, SIMOTION and SINUMERIK into the information technology via Industrial Ethernet. In the of-fice environment, e-mail and web browsers have become widely used communication techniques. Ethernet is used as the main communication route, in addition to telephone cables and the Internet.
Socket interface for Industrial Ethernetallows data communication with computers viaTCP/IP. On this interface which is widespread in the PC and UNIX world, users can freely program the data exchange. In the SIMATIC S7 and SIMATIC TDC, the SEND/RECEIVE blocks are used as an access to TCP/IP.

PROFINET –the open standard for automation
PROFINET is the innovative and open Industrial Ethernet standard (IEC 61158/61784) for industrial automation. With PROFINET, devices can be linked up from the field level through to the MES level. PROFINET enables system-wide communication, supports plant-wide engineering and uses the IT standards right down to the field level. Fieldbus systems such as PROFIBUS can be easily integrat-ed without any modification of existing devices. PROFINET takes account of the following aspects:
Real-time communication
PROFINET is based on Industrial Ethernet and uses the standard TCP/IP (Transport Control Protocol/Internet Proto-col) for parameterization, configuration and diagnostics. Real-time communication for the transmission of user/pro-cess data is performed on the same line. PROFINET devices can support the following real-time properties:
- Real-Time (RT) Real-Time (RT) is used for time-critical process data – i.e.
for cyclical user data or event-controlled alarms. For real-time requirements in automation, PROFINET uses an optimized real-time communication channel. The performance exceeds that of conventional fieldbuses and allows response times in the microsecond range. RT is the real-time communication for standard applica-tions in order to connect field devices, e.g. distributed peripherals and drives, or implement distributed auto-mation structures with PROFINET CBA.

- Isochronous Real-Time (IRT) For particularly demanding applications, the hardware-
supported real-time communication Isochronous Real-Time (IRT) is available – e.g. for motion control applications and high-performance applications in fac-tory automation. With IRT, a cycle time of up to 250 µs with a jitter (synchronization accuracy) of less than 1 µs is achieved. To this end, the communication cycle is divided into a deterministic part and an open part. The cyclical IRT message frames are sent in the deterministic interval and TCP/IP communication takes places in the open interval. Thus, both data transmissions exist side-by-side without interfering with each other.
Thanks to the IRT functionality, some SIMATIC controllers with an integrated PROFINET interface can also handle high-speed processes. For example, process data and stan-dard Ethernet data can be sent in a network with large volumes of data (e.g. Voice over IP) without affecting the process data. In addition, machine/system structures with linear interconnection can be made up of many stations, which nevertheless have a short updating time.
ERTEC (Enhanced Real-Time Ethernet Controller)
The ASIC family of ERTEC supports PROFINET real-time communication (RT and IRT) and it is the basic technology for integrated system solutions with PROFINET. The ERTEC 400 is integrated in controllers and network com-ponents and the ERTEC 200 is integrated in simple field devices (I/Os, drives). Development Kits and Competence Centers support the user in developing his own devices.

Distributed field devices (PROFINET IO)
PROFINET enables distributed field devices (I/O devices such as signal modules) to be integrated directly in Indus-trial Ethernet. During configuration with STEP 7, these field devices are assigned to a central controller (IO Controller). Existing modules or devices can continue to be used with PROFINET-compatible interfaces or links, which safeguards existing investments by PROFIBUS or AS-Interface users. A layout with standard and fail-safe modules in one station is also possible.
An I/O Supervisor is used for HMI and diagnostics purposes – just as for PROFIBUS – by means of hierarchical diagnos-tics screens (overview and detailed diagnostics). The user data is transferred by means of TCP/IP or IT standards. The simple engineering field-proven with PROFIBUS was ad-opted for PROFINET. From the viewpoint of programming with STEP 7 there is no difference between PROFIBUS and PROFINET when accessing an I/O device.
Thus, the users can easily configure field devices on the Industrial Ethernet on the basis of expertise gathered with PROFIBUS.Thanks to the device model of PROFIBUS being retained, the same diagnostics information is available for PROFINET.
In addition to the device diagnostics, module and channel-specific data can be read from the devices, making quick and easy error locating possible. In addition to star, tree and ring topologies, PROFINET also supports the linear to-pology that is characteristic of the established fieldbuses. By integrating switch functionality into the devices, for example as with the S7-300 with CP 343-1 Lean, CP 343-1, or the SIMATIC ET 200S, ET 200M or ET 200pro distributed field devices, line topologies that are oriented around the machine or plant structure can be formed.
This results in savings in cabling overhead and cuts down on components such as external switches. In addition to products with degree of protection IP20, a complete port-folio is available for IP65, such as the ET 200pro field de-vice or the SCALANCE X208PRO switch.
The Fast Start-Up function allows rapid start-up of PROFINET I/O devices that are connected to SIMATIC con-trollers within less than a second. This allows tool changes for robotics applications to be accelerated.
Fieldbus integrationPROFINET permits easy integration of existing fieldbus systems. This requires the use of a proxy, which is a master of the PROFIBUS or AS-Interface system on the one hand and a station in the Industrial Ethernet on the other hand and supports PROFINET communication. This protects the investments of plant operators, mechanical and plant engi-neers, and device manufacturers.

Motion Control
Extremely fast isochronous automatic speed control for high-performance Motion Control applications can be achieved with isochronous real-time based on PROFINET. The standardized drive profile PROFIdrive enables vendor-independent communication between motion controllers and drives, regardless of whether the bus system is Industrial Ethernet or PROFIBUS.

Isochronous real-time communication and standard IT communication can be implemented simultaneously on the same cable without adversely affecting each other.
Distributed intelligence and machine-machine commu-nication (PROFINET CBA)
PROFIBUS and PROFINET International have defined a standard for implementing modular plant structures: PROFINET CBA (Component Based Automation). Positive experiences have already been made with modularization in mechanical and plant engineering: Frequently-required parts are ready-made and can be rapidly combined into an individual unit when an order is placed. With PROFINET CBA, modularization can be extended to the automation engineering of the plant with the help of software compo-nents. Communication takes place via the real-time chan-nel.
Software components are understood to be encapsulated, reusable software functions. These can be individual technological functions such as closed-loop controllers, or user programs for entire machines. Like blocks, they can be flexibly combined and easily re-used – regardless of their internal programming. Communication between the software components is carried out exclusively via the component interfaces. On the outside, only those variables are accessible on these interfaces which are required for interaction with other components.

Software components are created with STEP 7 or other vendor-specific tools. SIMATIC iMap is used for plant-wide configuring of the overall plant using graphical intercon-nection of the components. The degree of modularization does not determine the number of programmable control-lers required. Allocation to one central automation device or several distributed automation devices allows optimal utilization of the automation hardware.
Network installation
With PROFINET, the network can be installed without any specialist knowledge. The open standard based on Indus-trial Ethernet meets all the requirements relevant to the industrial sector. PROFINET permits the simple construc-tion of the usual network topologies such as star, tree, line and ring for greater reliability and using industry-standard cabling.
The "PROFINET Installation Guide" provides network instal-lation support for manufacturers and users. Symmetrical copper cables or RFI-resistant fiber-optic cables are used depending on the application. Devices from different manufacturers are easily connected via standardized and rugged plug connectors (to IP65/IP67).
For assigning addresses and network diagnostics, PROFINET uses the IT standards DCP (Discover Configura-tion Protocol) and SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol).
PROFINET provides new functions and applications for wireless communication with Industrial Wireless LAN. This enables technologies subject to wear, such as contact wires, to be replaced and permits driverless transport sys-tems or personalized operating or maintenance devices to be used. Industrial WLAN is based on standards, but also offers additional functions that permit the high-perfor-mance connection of field devices to controllers:
• "Data reservation" is used for reserving the bandwidth between an access point and a defined client. This ensures high, reliable performance for this client, regardless of the number of clients operated at the access point.
• "Rapid Roaming" for the fast handover of mobile stations between differ-
ent access points.
These expansions to the standard enable high-perfor-mance wireless applications with PROFINET and SCALANCE W right down to the field level.
IT standards & security
In the context of web integration, the data of PROFINET components is presented in HTML or XML format. Regard-less of the tool used, information at the automation level can be accessed from any location using a standard Inter-net browser, which considerably simplifies commissioning and diagnostics.
PROFINET defines a graduated security concept that can be used without any special knowledge and that largely rules out any operating errors, unauthorized access or manipula-tion without impeding the production operation. For this, the SCALANCE S product range is available with software or hardware modules.
Safety
The PROFIsafe safety profile, which has been tried and tested with PROFIBUS and which permits the transmission of standard and safety-related data on a single bus cable, can also be used with PROFINET. Standard switches, prox-ies and links can also be used for fail-safe communication. In addition, fail-safe communication via Industrial Wireless LAN (IWLAN) is possible.
PROFINET thus permits the implementation of standard and fail-safe applications with integrated configuration throughout the network – not only when designing new plants, but also when upgrading existing ones.
Process
PROFINET is the standard for all applications in automa-tion. By means of the PROFIBUS integration, it also in-cludes the process industry - including hazardous areas.

Passive network components
With the FastConnect (FC) system for Industrial Ethernet, structured cabling from the office environment becomes industry-compatible for installation in the production hall. Industrial Ethernet switches and media converters
The SCALANCE X family of products provides a graduated product portfolio of switches (entry level, unmanaged, managed and modular) and media converters.
Switches are active network components which pass on data in a targeted way to the corresponding addressees; media converters are perfectly suited for implementing various transmission media in Industrial Ethernet net-work structures. Industrial Ethernet/PROFINET networks can be constructed redundantly with switches from the SCALANCE X product line, OSM/ESM or CSM. By closing the ring, the network remains operational upon failure of one transmission path; in the event of a network component failure, only those stations connected directly to it are no longer accessible.
In addition to the possibility of configuring and diagnosing SCALANCE X switches in STEP 7, they provide optimized data transmission of the PROFINET real-time message frames by means of prioritization derived fromIEEE 802.1Q. The network components control the flow

When combined, the current Industrial Ethernet technolo-gies can boost performance in the network by a factor of 50 and more in comparison with the original 10 Mbit/s technology. These technologies are:
• Fast Ethernet with 100 Mbit/s: Messages are transported much faster than Ethernet
(10 Mbit/s) and therefore only occupy the bus for an extremely short time.
• Gigabit Ethernet with 1 Gbit/s: Gigabit Ethernet is faster than Fast Ethernet by a fac-tor of 10, the bus is occupied for only one tenth of the time.
• Full duplex prevents collisions: The data throughput increases enormously because the customary message repetitions are avoided. Data can be sent and received simultaneously between two sta-tions. The data throughput for a full-duplex connection therefore rises to 200 Mbit/s with Fast Ethernet and to 2 Gbit/s with Gigabit Ethernet. With full duplex, a great-er extension of the network is possible. This means, for example, that when glass fiber-optic cables of 50/125 µm are used, distances of up to 26 km can be achieved.
• Switching supports parallel communication: When a network is subdivided into several segments using a switch, this results in load separation. Data communication is possible in each individual segment independently of the other segments. In the overall net-work, several message frames can therefore be en-route simultaneously. The performance gain is due to the simultaneity of several message frames.
• Autocrossover automatically crosses the send and re-ceive cables on Twisted Pair interfaces
• Autosensing describes the characteristic of network nodes (data terminals and network components) that automatically detect the transmission rate of a signal (10 Mbit/s, 100 Mbit/s or 1 Gbit/s) and support Autone-gotiation.
• Autonegotiation is a configuration protocol in Fast Ethernet. Before initiating the actual data trans- mission, network devices automatically negotiate a transmission mode which is supported by any device (1000 Mbit/s,100 Mbit/s or 10 Mbit/s, full duplex or half-duplex).
• Gigabit cabling system The 8-core FastConnect cabling system of SIMATIC NET with cables, plugs and outlets supports transmission rates of up to 1 Gbit/s.

For the first time, this gives customers a single radio network not only for process-critical data (e.g. alarm message), but also for non-critical communication (e.g. service and diagnostics). The IWLAN components SCALANCE W and PROFINET provide a mo-bile solution for applications right down to the the field level. The reliability of the radio channel is reflected in the dustproof and waterproof design (IP65) of the rugged enclosure, with the high demands on mechanical stability familiar from SIMATIC. AS-Interface
Sensors, valves, actuators, drives – many different compo-nents work on the field level. All of these actuators/sensors must be connected to an automation system. Distributed I/O devices are used for this; in a way as intelligent out-posts directly on-site.
As a cost-effective alternative to the cable harness, AS-Interface links the field level components via a simple two-wire line for data and power. AS-Interface is stan-dardized as an international industry standard in accor-dance with EN 50295 and IEC 62026-2 and is supported worldwide by a number of member companies of the AS-International Association, which includes the leading manufacturers of actuators and sensors. AS-Interface is used wherever individual actuators/sensors are spatially distributed throughout the machine (e.g. in a bottle filling system).
AS-Interface is a single-master system. There are communi-cations processors (CPs) for SIMATIC and for SIMOTION and links that control field communication as masters. With the AS-Interface specification V2.1 or V3.0, up to 62 slaves can be connected. The AS-Interface specification V3.0 allows a maximum of 1000 digital inputs/outputs to be connected (profileS-7.A.A: 8DI/8DO as A/B slave). New profiles allow advanced addressing to be used for analog slaves, too. The analog value transmission is accelerated via "fast analog profiles". Thanks to the integrated analog value processing in the masters, the access to analog values is as easy as the access to digital values.

For connecting the AS-Interface to PROFIBUS DP, the DP/AS-i LINK Advanced, DP/AS-i F-Link or DP/AS-Interface LINK 20E are available with degree of protection IP20. This enables the use of AS-Interface as a subnet for PROFIBUS DP. The IE/AS-i LINK PN IO allows AS-Interface to be connected to Industrial Ethernet and thereby a direct embedding in the PROFINET environment.

Transparency and on-of-a-kind integration thanks to Totally Integrated Automation
As an innovative and standardized sensor/actuator inter-face, the IO-Link standard is the subsequent expansion of functions of the fieldbus systems for the field devices. With the Siemens IO-Link solution, sensors and actuators with all of their performance capability are optimally integrated below the fieldbus level into the Totally Integrated Auto-mation (TIA) environment.
In addition to process data, diagnostic interrupts and sen-sor parameters are also available throughout the plant. This accelerates commissioning, increases the plant avail-ability and reduces maintenance costs that typically arise due to the large number of sensors and actuators in the plant. Recurring parameterizations of sensors or actuators can be reconstructed as often as required thanks to central data storage. The devices do not have to be individually set. This shortens downtimes, because the parameters are automatically reloaded after a device is replaced. The com-patibility with conventional sensors and actuators remains always intact, because conventional field devices can also be operated on IO-Link interfaces.
The connection is made in the proven flexible layout via the master module of the ET 200S with IO-Link ports. In addition to sensors and actuators, IO-Link devices and IO-Link field distributors with 4 or 8 digital standard inputs in IP67 are available for the cost-effective integration of standard sensors.
The integration of the device configuration into the STEP 7 environment allows faults to be found and cleared quickly and easily. Thus, productivity is increased across all phases of the machine cycle – configuration, commissioning and operation .

Optical data transmission
The optical data transmission can take place via fiber-optic cables with glass or plastic fibers. There are cables forindoors and outdoors, as trailing cable or in halogen-free design. Future-proof fiber-optic cables, which are com-pletely insensitive to electromagnetic influences, are used as a transmission medium.
Wireless data transmission
With Industrial Wireless LAN, a local wireless network for wireless communication can be set up by means of an access point, e.g. SCALANCE W788-1PRO, and a wireless card. RCoax fiber-optic cables, used as antenna for the SCALANCE W Access Point, wirelessly and reliably cover challenging areas, such as suspended monorails, cranes and stacker cranes. The RCoax Cable replaces sliding con-tacts and trailing cables. For transmitting data for moving parts where no slip ring cables can be used, the mainte-nance-free RCoax cable is the ideal solution.
The electrical data trans-mission of the PROFIBUS DP signal takes place via con-tact conductors/slip rings, telephone/standard cables with the SIMATIC Power Rail Booster (e.g. suspended monorail).

Expansion by PROFINETThis range has been expanded by PROFINET-enabled components, thus providing a complete product range with fail-safe controllers, fail-safe I/O and a correspond-ing engineering environment. This includes controllers for the mid to upper performance range, digital input/output modules, motor starters and frequency converters with degree of protection IP20 as well as with degree of protec-tion IP65/67 for a cabinet-free configuration. The fail-safe controllers have interfaces for PROFIBUS and PROFINET. The fail-safe input/output modules can be operated via corresponding interface modules either on PROFIBUS or PROFINET.
PROFIsafe protocolThe communication between the fail-safe controllers (SIMATIC, SINUMERIK) and the fail-safe I/Os takes place via the protocol profile initially developed for PROFIBUS DP, i.e. "PROFIsafe". PROFIsafe was the first communication stan-dard according to IEC 61508 that permits both standard and safety-related communication on one bus. With SIL 3 and Cat. 4, PROFIsafe meets the strictest requirements in the production and process industry. PROFIsafe is tested and authorized by the TUEV Group (German Technical In-spectorate) and by the BGIA (institute for work safety of the statutory industrial accident institutions).
Openness of PROFIsafeThe PROFIsafe protocol V2 supports secure communica-tion for the open standard buses – whether it is the proven PROFIBUS DP or all variants of the new, fast bus system PROFINET IO. With the transmission variant PROFIBUS PA (IEC 61158-2), the integrity of the distributed automation extends into the processing world, e.g. in hazardous envi-ronments. PROFIsafe is also used in modern radio techno- logy.
PROFIsafe functionality PROFIsafe prevents errors such as false addressing, loss, delay, etc. when transmitting messages, e.g. through con-secutive numbering of the PROFIsafe data and time moni-toring. Safety-oriented sensor signals of a bus node make their way to the safety-oriented CPU via slave nodes.
After these sensor signals are linked, a corresponding out-put signal is sent to a fail-safe slave. The transmission takes place on a single channel without the use of a redundant path.

ASIsafe Solution local: Design and components
The "ASIsafe" concept supports direct integration of safety-related components, such as EMERGENCY-STOP switches, protective door switches or safety light arrays, on the AS-Interface network. These are fully compatible with the familiar AS-Interface components (masters, slaves, power supply, repeaters, etc.) in accordance with EN 62026-2 and are operated in conjunction with them on the yellow AS-Interface cable. Thus, safety-related shutdown is possible with ASIsafe up to Category 4/PL e (DIN EN ISO 13849-1) or SIL 3 (IEC 61508) while retaining the advantage of a simple, inexpensive wiring option.

The fail-safe components are part of Safety Integrat-ed, the Siemens safety program based on devices for safe acquisition, analysis and response. For fail-safe communication, ASIsafe and PROFIsafe are used.
ASIsafe Solution local: The safety monitor
For the local ASIsafe solution, the safety monitor monitors the safe inputs acquired via the safe slaves, links them us-ing a parameterizable logic, and ensures safe shutdown by means of built-in safety relays. In the event of a tripping operation or a communication failure, the safety moni-tor disconnects its two-channel enabling circuits with a maximum response time of 40 ms. At the same time as the second enabling circuit of the safety monitor, distributed valves or motor starters could also be activated for safety (device version 3).
All of the data is transferred via a dynamic, safe protocol. In each bus cycle, the safety monitor expects from each slave a specific message frame that changes continuously in accordance with a defined algorithm. The asimon con-figuration software is used to parameterize the shutdown logic of the safety monitor and it can respond accordingly in each case when the safe nodes trip. The safety monitor can be diagnosed via the controller. No additional wiring is necessary for the safety components. Ready-made images for operating and monitoring tasks allow users to visualize the safety-oriented events on SIMATIC HMI Panels.

PROFIsafe ASIsafe solution: The DP/AS-i F-Link
The DP/AS-i F-Link allows the use of AS-Interface among fail-safe SIMATIC or SINUMERIK controllers and converts the ASIsafe input signals into the PROFIsafe protocol. The acquisition of safe signals is done with ASIsafe modules or safety sensors with an integrated ASIsafe slave. The existing fail-safe controller takes over the analysis. On the PROFIsafe level, the F-Link is the best choice:
• When large amounts of safe slaves are used• When numerous trip circuits have been installed• For safety-oriented further processing at the higher-
level fieldbus levels• For extensive, nested logical operations
Configuration and parameterization are done via STEP 7 HWConfig. The safe logic is programmed with the resour- ces of STEP 7 Distributed Safety in F-LAD or F-FBD. Diag-nostics is carried out using the system functions provided by STEP 7 as well as locally on the devices by means of messages on the display.

High-availability communication and redundancy
Process or field communication
Production plants are designed and calculated for 24-hour operation. The consequences of a system failure are costly downtimes, high restarting costs and the loss of valuable data or materials. Redundant control systems, such as the SIMATIC S7-H system, protect against failures of the auto-mation systems.
Fault-tolerant systems The S7-400H is a high-availability controller. Handling, pro-gramming, configuring and communicating are all done as in the standard systems. Depending on the network topology, redundant connections are created to which the system can automatically switch in the event of a fault without any loss of data. The peripherals are connected via redundant PROFIBUS DP cables to S7-400H. For the safe, fault-tolerant design, the communication takes place between the fail-safe CPUs via fail-safe S7 communication blocks.
Redundant networks
The problem-free communication from PC applications (e.g. WinCC) via redundant networks with S7-400H is en-sured by S7-REDCONNECT. PC applications that already use S7 communication today (e.g. via the OPC interface) can be adopted unchanged. Industrial Ethernet and PROFIBUS networks can be constructed redundantly with switches from the SCALANCE X product line, OSM or ESM.
Fast redundancyTo achieve the extremely fast response times required by the industry, SIMATIC NET uses a specially developed pro-cedure for controlling redundancy. The reconfiguration of a network after a fault (broken cable or switch failure) into a functioning network infrastructure is ensured in the subsecond range (less than 0.3 seconds in a ring of 50 switches) and no logical connections are disconnected.

In the control room, two SCALANCE X-400 switches are used on the terminal bus. For a higher number of stations, SCALANCE X414-3E switches can be used with extender modules. These are connected together to create an elec-trical ring with a transfer rate of 1 Gbit/s. Several operator panels are provided and divided between the two switches, so that the system can still be operated in the event of a failure. The terminal and plant buses are connected using redundant servers, and also using high-performance Giga-bit plugs in the case of SCALANCE X408-2.

Network and device diagnostics simplify commissioning and the operation of the system. They keep network fail-ures to a minimum and increase the operational reliability and system availability
Diagnostics on Industrial Ethernet/PROFINET
The exchange of process and control data almost always takes place via Industrial Ethernet/PROFINET in modern production plants. Diagnostics are indispensible for this. Most analysis and management systems are complicated and expensive, however.
Diagnostics concept
PROFINET IO supports an integrated diagnostics concept for being able to efficiently find and clear any faults. If a fault occurs, the faulty IO Device sends a diagnostic alarm to the IO Controller. This in turn calls up a corresponding program routine in the user program in order to respond to faults. Alternatively, diagnostic information can be read directly from the field device (IO Device) and displayed on an IO Supervisor (PG or PC). The IO Device then gener-ates a diagnostic alarm if a fault occurs on a channel. An acknowledgement mechanism allows the faults to be pro-cessed sequentially in the IO Controller.

Within the scope of Totally Integrated Automation, Siemens provides the freely downloadable PNIODiag diagnostics package on the Internet, in order to simplify the diagnostic analysis of distributed I/O systems in con-nection with SIMATIC S7. A function block in the CPU de-termines such things as: • the statuses of the connected I/O systems and• the station statuses of an I/O system.
The diagnostic analysis and operation are done completely via the visualization with WinCC flexible or WinCC. The SCALANCE network technology is also integrated in this system solution. The tried and tested Industrial Ethernet switches are configured with STEP 7 and diagnosed during operation like field devices. The diagnostic information is processed in the PLC user program. This integrated func-tionality has advantages for engineering, commissioning and operation of the plant.
Topological plant view for more transparency
For PROFINET networks, the topology editor in SIMATIC STEP 7 or SIMOTION SCOUT can graphically display the port interconnections of the devices quickly and easily. An offline/online comparison identifies the communicating ports and presents them in tabular or graphical form. By detecting, presenting and monitoring the physical connec-tions between devices on PROFINET IO, the administrator can monitor and service even complex networks easily. In addition, with the topology editor the user receives com-prehensive diagnostics functions for all of the components during operation and support in generating the system documentation.

Swapping a device without PG or swap medium
If a device has to be swapped in the event of a failure, a setpoint topology is specified via the topology editor or it is acquired online. The replacement device must be installed in the same location with the same port cabling. The IO Controller can accommodate the device indepen-dently in the production communication.
Electronic rating plate
The "electronic rating plate", e.g. for SIMATIC ET 200 field devices, simplifies maintenance planning. Specifying the manufacturer and serial number, for example, allows the respective device to be identified. Other data, e.g. plant ID, installation date, facilitate the maintenance itself.
Diagnostics via the webSystem diagnosticsVia integrated web servers, template diagnostics pages can be called up from any location in the plant using standard web browsers and notifications can be sent (e.g. via e-mail). In this way, the topology and module status of connected PROFINET and PROFIBUS field devices can be displayed. The module status and variable status are automatically updated. The SINAUT Telecontrol system (Siemens Network Auto-mation) is based on SIMATIC. It supplements the SIMATIC system with corresponding hardware and software, and permits individual components to be networked over a WAN (Wide Area Network). SINAUT is primarily used when remote process stations are supposed to be connected to one or more control centers.
The data for this is transmitted via classical WAN, such as dedicated copper cable, telephone network, radio, but also via modern, IP-based networks such as broadband systems or the Internet.
SINAUT Telecontrol consists of two independent systems:
• SINAUT MICROSimple telecontrol system for monitoring and control of distributed plants using mobile radio communication (GPRS) on the basis of SIMATIC S7-200 and WinCC flexible or WinCC.
• SINAUT ST7Multifaceted telecontrol system based on SIMATIC S7-300,S7-400 and WinCC for fully automatic monitoring and con-trol of distributed process stations, which exchange data with one another and with one or more control centers via the most diverse WAN media.
SINAUT MICRO
SINAUT MICRO is a low-cost supplement for monitoring and controlling simple telecontrol tasks. It consists of a GSM-GPRS modem, OPC and connection management software optimized for GPRS, and an S7-200 program block package. With this package, up to 256 SIMATIC S7-200 stations per OPC server (cascadable) can easily and safely communicate with one another and with the control center using GPRS mobile radio. They remain permanently online.
SINAUT MICRO is suitable for use wherever small volumes of data have to be transferred via wireless connections. The system is configured using STEP 7 Micro/WIN.The maintenance personnel can access the secured center even from home via an Internet browser and query or set current values of connected S7-200 stations. In this way, for example, text or fax fault messages which are sent directly from S7-200 remote stations and are received via mobile telephone can be analyzed via the center. This al-lows a faster response to process interrupts.
The routing functionality of the OPC server SINAUT MICRO SC also allows bi-directional communication be-tween S7-200 stations that are connected via the SINAUT MD720-3 modem. Under WinCC, the OPC server SINAUT MICRO can be combined with SINAUT ST7cc to form a cost-optimized central fault message and telecontrol system that can grow to meet increased requirements.
SINAUT ST7Transmission networks
SINAUT ST7 demonstrates its versatility in the selection of the transmission network. In the classical WAN sector, these are:
• Dedicated lines (private or leased)• Private radio networks (optionally with time slot procedure)• Analog telephone network• Digital ISDN network• Mobile radio network (GSM)
With the exception of the radio networks, SINAUT ST7 pro-vides suitable modems for all classical WANS. In addition to classical networks, SINAUT communication is also possible over Ethernet-based WANs, namely:

All networks can be combined as required in a SINAUT project. Star, line and node topologies can be designed, and also mixed configurations of these basic structures. A station can be linked to two transmission paths for re-dundant data transmission. The two paths can be of the same type or also different, e.g. dedicated line combined with telephone network or ISDN with DSL.
Control center system SINAUT ST7cc/scSINAUT ST7cc is the standard SINAUT I&C system based on WinCC. Using the SINAUT ST7sc program package with the Data Access OPC interface, the SINAUT ST7 stations can also be linked to control systems from other vendors. It supplies the archives with process data in line with the provided time stamp and is also able to link sector-typical logging systems such as ACRON. In order to increase the
availability, the control center can also be designed as a redundant system in conjunction with the WinCC redun-dancy package.
Remote programming and remote diagnosticsBoth in the commissioning phase and during operation, program modifications or remote diagnostics are easy to carry out in the remote stations via the SINAUT telecontrol network, even without interrupting ongoing process data communication. This saves travel times and maintenance visits.
Future-oriented and economicalSINAUT ST7 is a telecontrol system produced on the basis of the SIMATIC S7 automation system and it resumes and continuously evolves the successful properties of the previ-ous SINAUT ST1 system based on SIMATIC S5. The consis-tent use of the SIMATIC platform ensures the long service life and economy of plant investments and ensures com-patibility with previous and future systems.

TeleService adapter with integrated modem
Remote maintenance via TeleService
Machines and plants are increasingly operated in places which are far away from the place of manufacture. Plant constructors must nevertheless be able to provide sup-port in the event of a fault. Especially during the warranty period this can result in high costs. TeleService helps to significantly reduce the risk. The TeleService applications are very diverse. Via the telephone line, plants can be diag-nosed, values can be set and data can be transferred from any place in the world.
TeleService contributes significantly to saving travel and personnel costs for service calls and has therefore been a standard tool for automation technology for a long time.
Application
Remote connections with TeleService can be used for remote maintenance and remote linking. Remote main-tenance permits access to a CPU with STEP 7 or an HMI device over WinCC. A remote link is a connection for data transmission. TeleService also allows text messages or e-mails to be sent through SIMATIC controllers.
Remote maintenance.For remote maintenance a technician dials into a remote plant by telephone. STEP 7 can be used to read status in-formation or to correct the user program remotely.
Remote linkRemote links are used to transmit data over the telephone network. TeleService supports program-controlled connec-tion buildup between the PG or PC and automation system. Process data exchange between several automation sys-tems can also be coordinated.
Connection build-up
Access to the automation network is not implemented via the virus-prone office network, but instead using a login and password over a secure connection from the telephone network through the TeleService adapter directly into the automation network.
In addition to password protection, a call-back function is provided. If this function is activated, the plant calls back a predefined number and only establishes a connection with this number. In the case of Industrial Ethernet, the firewall integrated into the TeleService Adapter IE that is pre-para-meterized for automation tasks ensures that only the relevant ports and utilities are enabled.

Remote diagnostics and remote maintenance of production plants have become indispensible in modern automation technology. They are more efficient and more cost-effec-tive than an on-site service employee on site. This allows faults to be detected and cleared much faster, downtimes of machines are reduced and their availability is increased.
The basis for optimal remote maintenance – even for dif-ficult to reach or widely distributed plants – are reliable, always available, secured and cost-effective data connec-tions. Together with Internet connections, the current ra-dio technologies are increasingly used for this task.
Because GPRS connections are implemented via the Inter-net, corresponding safety measures are required. With the SCALANCE S security module, a secure connection is estab-lished to remote stations with the GPRS router MD740-1. This reliably protects data transfer from espionage and manipulation.

In various SIMATIC NET components (e.g. SCALANCE, OSM/ESM, CPs with IT functions), extensive parameter-ization and diagnostics functions are provided through open protocols and interfaces (e.g. web server, net-work management). These open interfaces provide access to those components which can also be used for illicit activities.
When the above-mentioned functions and the open interfaces and protocols are used (e.g. SNMP, HTTP and Telnet), appropriate security precautions must be implemented to suppress unauthorized access to the components or network, especially from the WAN/In-ternet. For this reason, automation networks can be isolated from the remaining corporate network using suitable firewall systems (e.g. SCALANCE S).
