BICYCLE. THIS DEVICE COLLECTS THE

MOISTURE CONTAINED IN THE AIR, CONDENSES IT AND STORES IT AS SAFE

DRINKING WATER. POWERED BY

SOLAR CELLS, IT CAN HARVEST UP TO

0,5 L WATER IN AN HOUR´S TIME UNDER

THE RIGHT CLIMATIC CONDITIONS.

PROJECT GOALTO CREATE A SMALL, COMPACT AND SELF-SUFFICIENT DEVICE ABLE TO ABSORB HUMID AIR,

FONTUS CAN BE APPLIED IN TWO DIFFERENT AREAS. FIRSTLY, IT MAY BE INTERPRETED AS A SPORTY BICYCLE

ACCESSORY. USEFUL ON LONG BIKE TOURS, THE CONSTANT SEARCH FOR FRESHWATER SOURCES SUCH AS

RIVERS AND GAS STATIONS CAN CEASE TO BE AN ISSUE SINCE THE BOTTLE AUTOMATICALLY FILLS ITSELF UP.

SECONDLY, IT MIGHT BE A CLEVER WAY OF ACQUIRING FRESHWATER IN REGIONS OF THE WORLD WHERE

GROUNDWATER IS SCARCE BUT AIR HUMIDITY IS HIGH. EXPERIMENTS SUGGEST THAT THE BOTTLE COULD HARVEST

AROUND 0,5L WATER IN ONE HOUR´S TIME IN REGIONS WITH HIGH TEMPERATURE AND HUMIDITY VALUES.

H O W I T W O R K S In order to achieve condensation, one must cool hot, humid air down. The device has a small cooler installed in its centre called Peltier Element.

This cooler is divided in two: When powered by electricity, the upper side cools down and the bottom side gets hot. The more you cool the hot side down, the colder the upper side will get. Consequently, these two sides are separated and isolated from each other.

The air enters the bottom chamber at a high speed when moving forward with the bike and cools the hot side down. Moreover, when the air enters the upper chamber it is stopped by little walls perforated non-linearly, reducing its speed in order to give the air the needed time to lose its water molecules.

The condensing structure represents the largest surface in the smallest space possible.This provides a large surface for condensation to happen. Droplets then flow through a pipe into a bottle. The bottle can then be turned to a vertical position and losened. Every kind of PET 0,5l bottle fits.

CATASTROPHE, INFANT AND PARENT WILL STAY

SAFE AND CLOSE TOGETHER

THE CHALLENGE

AFTER THOROUGH RESEARCH INTO SAFETY REGULATIONS OF AIRPLANES AND SHIPS AND LIFE VESTS IN GENERAL, I CAME TO REALIZE THAT THERE IS VERY LITTLE EFFORT INVESTED IN GUARANTEEING THE CONNECTION OF AN INFANT TO HIS PARENT IN CASE OF A CATASTROPHE. INFANTS MUST USUALLY WEAR AN INDIVIDUAL LIFE VEST. IN CASE OF AN ACCIDENT, PARENTS MUST CARRY OR GUIDE THEIR CHILD WITH THEIR OWN HANDS, BEING OBSTRUCTED IN PERFORMING OTHER MOVEMENTS SUCH AS OPENING DOORS OR SWIMMING. FURTHERMORE, THERE IS A GREATER CHANCE FOR INFANTS TO GET SEPARATED AND LOST IN THE CHAOS OF THE SITUATION. THIS PROJECT WAS INSPIRED BY THE PROFOUND BOUND BETWEEN A CHILD AND ITS MOTHER.

THE LIFE VEST

BOUND MAKES IT POSSIBLE FOR PARENTS TO KEEP THEIR CHILDREN NEAR TO THEM IN CASE OF AN ACCIDENT.

BOUND ALLOWS A PARENT TO CARRY THEIR CHILD WHILE HAVING AT THE SAME TIME BOTH HANDS FREE

TO GET IN SAFETY. ALTHOUGH CONNECTED, THE LIFE VESTS OF PARENT AND INFANT ARE INDIVIDUAL PARTS

AND CAN BE SEPARATED FROM EACH OTHER EASILY. THEY HAVE INDIVIDUAL AIR CHAMBERS WHICH

MUST BE INDIVIDUALLY INFLATED AND THE DISTANCE BETWEEN THEM CAN ALSO BE EASILY REGULATED.

THE CHALLENGE

ACCORDING TO THE UNHCR, 45,2 MILLION

PEOPLE WERE FORCEFULLY DISPLACED AT THE END OF 2012,

THE LARGEST NUMBER SINCE 1994.

80% OF THE REFUGEES WORLDWIDE ARE WOMEN

AND CHILDREN.

IN MOST ARMED CONFLICTS, WOMEN AND CHILDREN ARE INNOCENT VICTIMS. THEY ARE EITHER

FORCED TO LIVE UNDER TERRIBLE CONDITIONS OR TO LEAVE

THEIR HOMES IN SEARCH OF SECURITY. EXPOSED TO FIREFIGHT

AND BOMBING, THEIR LIVES ARE CONSTANTLY AT RISK. THIS PROJECT IS INTENDED TO INVITE US TO REFLECT

ON CIVILIANS´ SITUATION IN ARMED CONFLICTS TODAY.

FINAL PROTOTYPE

THE VEST HAS A BULLETPROOF MATERIAL ON THE OUTSIDE AND IT IS CUSHIONED ON THE

INSIDE. THE FRONT SIDE IS CURVED SO THAT THERE IS ENOUGH SPACE FOR A BABY TO SIT

BETWEEN MOTHER AND VEST. AN INCLINED SURFACE ABOVE THE BABY’S HEAD PROTECTS

AGAINST SHRAPNEL AND OTHER PROJECTILES COMING IN FROM A HIGHER ANGLE.

STRONGOLD MAKES IT POSSIBLE FOR WOMEN TO TRANSPORT THEIR BABIES EFFICIENTLY BEING ABLE TO CARRY OTHER BELONGINGS TOO WHILE BEING BOTH PROTECTED.

THIS PRODUCT COULD BE DISTRIBUTED BY ORGANISATIONS LIKE THE UNHCR FOR WOMEN ESCAPING

TO REFUGEE CAMPS WHERE, ONCE IN SAFETY, THEY WOULD HAND IT OVER TO OTHERS IN NEED.

FRESH AIR, SUNLIGHT AND A NICE WALK IN NATURE OFTEN MEAN GETTING TO PLACES WHERE THE

GROUND ISN’T EXACTLY OPTIMAL FOR PULLING A BABY STROLLER. CLUMSY LITTLE WHEELS SHOULDN´T BE THE

OBSTACLE STANDING BETWEEN FATHER AND SON AND A

WALK ON THE BEACH.

THIS WAS AN EXPERIMENTAL PROJECT WHERE

I ANALYSED DIFFERENT KINDS OF LOCOMOTION SYSTEMS AND FOCUSED ON DESIGNING ONE SUITABLE

FOR A BABY STROLLER AND ABLE TO MOVE ON DIFFERENT

TYPES OF DIFFICULT TERRAIN.

I LATER ON PUT A STRONG EMPHASIS ONLY ON

DEVELOPING AN ALTERNATIVE MOVING MECHANISM,

INDEPENDENT OF ITS PURPOSE.

A BARBECUE STATION ON THE VIENNA DANUBE ISLAND FOR

THIS BARBECUE STATION WAS DESIGNED TO BE BUILT COMPLETELY OUT OF CONCRETE IN ORDER TO PROTECT THE OBJECT FROM WEATHER AND VANDALISM. AN INTEGRATED PIPE SYSTEM USES THE HEAT OF THE FIRE TO KEEP THE SURFACE OF THE BENCH WARM ON CHILLY DAYS.
