REDBACK is an electric vehicle designed for BRP, optimized for urban adventure riding and offroad adventures in northern environments. REDBACK uses 8 onboard cameras as ‘eyes’ to capture the ride from the vehicle’s point of view.

ABOUTDesign a 1+1 electric vehicle for harsh winter conditions, that adopts the BRP design language and inspires a connection between the riderand the urban environment.

WHAT? WHY?? HOW???Urban electric recreation vehicle, escape from the grind.

Adopt urban adventure photography with offroad thrills.

IDEATION

Ideation focused on developing a 3-wheeled, dynamic form that ex-pressed the aggresive offroad attitude of BRP Maverick products, with sophistication of camera and drone equipment.

CONCEPT DEVELOPMENT

CONCEPT DEVELOPMENT

Ergonomic bucks were made to test out the size of the necessarybattery components and motors for the vehicle. This aided in establishing a 1:1 size of the vehicle.

FINAL PRODUCT

REDBACK gives the adventurous souls a way to navigate the city and urban environments, while connecting and sharing their journey through the vehicle itself.

REDBACK ‘sees’ through several integrated action cameras located around the body, which capture and stream the rider’s journey, uploading the content and allowing it to be shared worldwide.

VEO is a housing designed for advanced LiDAR camera systems used on developing autonomous shuttle concepts. Manufacturing and material choice was crucial, with an emphasis on durability in cold weather environments and unique styling.

Client feedback and group critiques directed the concepts in a more refined direction, focusing on the aerodynamic properties of the design, narrowing the market to mobility shuttles and optimizing the field of view of the LiDAR camera.

PROFILE DEVELOPMENTWith a more focused direction, the need to refine the exterior profile became paramount. Quick and dirty profile sketches were done in rapid succession to explore form.

FINAL PRODUCTThe final product came to life in CAD software, using surface modeling techniques and added manufacturing details. Client is offered the ability to 3D Print the housing to reduce manufacturing cost.

Quad Lock Mounting SystemThe quad lock mounting system is a simple, secure mounting mechanism optimized for ease of use. Familiar twist and push movements allow users to easily remove the camera housing for maintenance.

Nanuk is an Amphibious Mobile Research Station which focuses on mitigating challenges which face marine biologists in the Canadian Arctic. Nanuk encompasses full-bodied ergonomics, sustainability and human centered design to develop a solution which alters the perspective on how Arctic research is conducted.

ABOUTSpecies preservation, environmental sustainability and gaining a deeper understanding of the natural environment is key to sustainable Arctic research. There are a great deal of challenges which exist in this space that make it increasingly difficult for marine biologists to do their job without having a negative environmental impact.

Understanding these challenges and developing a solution is the focus of this thesis.

FINAL CONCEPTNANUK’s Observation Pod enables marine biologists to conduct observational research safely in Arctic waters for up to 6 hours at a time before retracting to the surface.

HARD MODELA scaled 3D printed model was manufactured using a budget level 3D printer, printed with recycled PLA plastic. All files were sliced digitally to fit onto the printer bed and printed and manufactured in multiple sections.
