Natural ventilation solutions can be adapted to almost any industrial process, climatic condition, and building style.For the majority of facilities the main objective is to lower indoor temperatures and improve indoor air quality.

Poor indoor air quality is a major contributor to a wide array of health issues. Our ventilation system is also an ideal solution for smoke release and can ensure full compliance with the Chinese fire codes. These are all major considerations in our evaluation process.

Initially our engineers will sit with the building designers or process engineers to fully understand the processes

layout and evaluate the key areas where heat or noxious gasses is or will be generated inside the building envelope. For simple projects it may only be required to establish a suitable air change requirement based on experience and industry norms. For more complex processes then detailed calculations are used to establish suitable air flows and different areas of the process often require their own specific solution.

Once the basic air changes are established, then the solution can be further enhanced by adding a range of additional features including, motorized operators, automatic controls activated by temperature or air quality sensors, fusible links to allow smoke release, and even translucent sheeting allowing an increase in natural light entering the facility - all of course depending on your specific needs and budget constraints.

Challenging projects in challenging environments

Oyu Tolgoi: the world’s largest undeveloped copper-gold project, is located in the South Gobi region of Mongolia, approximately 550 km south of the capital, Ulaanbaatar, and 80 km north of the Mongolia-China border and a joint venture between Rio Tinto, Ivanhoe Mines and the Mongolian Government.

Due to the harsh nature of the Mongolian winter where temperatures can often be below -40 C a controlled environment was required to ensure all year around production of the copper concentrate. These climatic conditions offered significant challenges for both the design and construction teams.

Completely designed by our Shanghai team, we were constantly challenged by design change management generated by the client’s process designers in Vancouver, Canada. Data management and document controls were achieved by use of close collaboration and Projects On-Line

Monitored by the Spaceframe QA/QC, the ventilation components were fabricated and pre-painted to exacting standards in our Shanghai fabrication facility. As there were no established road systems for the last 100

kilometres of the journey, the project offered a significant logistics challenge.

The project was completed on time and with no LTI’s. Our compliments to Fluor our partners CMCC for their very professional Project Management.

Roof Vents

We are the market leaders in the supply of high quality industrial and commercial louver systems.

As indicated above, modular structural louver systems enables us to stack and create a fully louvered wall. Through the research and development of our fully structural load bearing frames, developed by our engineers in the USA and including a proprietary interlocking clip system, we make are able to make this type of application a reality. All our louvers have go through a rigorous testing procedure and we are able to validate our design and products through applying key performance criteria with regard to pressure drop ratings, water penetration and various other conditions.

The operation functions of our louver systems are also offered in a variety of configurations such as; • Manual. • Spring loaded.• Winder operated.• Motorized.• Sensor operated ( Gas or heat. )• Even by way of actuators. The louvers if used in conjunction with our CRV range of Natural Roof ventilators, can be synchronised to open and close simultaneously.

To accommodate your specific needs we offer a range of roof mounted natural ventilator systems. These are:

• Low profile vents, designed not affect to the overall cosmetic appearance of a facility by providing efficient ventilation product that is not visible from the ground.

• CRV Natural roof ventilators, where the rage volumes of air to be recycled are the major issues on the project.

• MVS Ventilators which is the baby of the range for the smaller applications that seek only to remove small amounts of air and smoke.

Our versatile Roof Vents can be engineered to minimise the impact to existing structures and enable ease of installation. Contingent on the specific requirements of projects our Roof Vents can range in size from a 300mm throat size to a throat size 4,600mm on our monster CRV 180 Vent System.

For heavy industry we can even provide larger systems if required but their occurrence is specialised and rare.

Our Roof Vents can also be provided with a variety of operable dampers to further optimise air flow and ease of operation. These can include either:

Natural lightEnhance and deliver more light to your facility

One of our recent enhancements in the development of roof ventilation design has been the introduction of translucent sheeting to the fixed top panels and the operable damper panels within the roof vent. This design enables natural light to be gathered in the vent and deflected in to the facility.

To achieve this, our preferred material for translucent sheeting is a twin wall solar grade poly carbonate composite which also has enhanced longevity and is resistant to the “yellowing” often found in fibreglass skylight products. Of further benefit, this materials insulation properties also

reduce the risk of either condensation occurring or heat gain, both often associated with traditional skylights.

Our system enables a significant increase in day light capture to be achieved in a manner that mitigates risk of heat build as well as providing a free increase of internal light and lux levels, obviously resulting in a decreased need for artificial light with the added benefit of increased operator comfort and, based on studies overseas, an increase in worker productivity.

Utilising the effects of wind chill while increasing airflow will enhance evaporative cooling. This means that via passive means and intelligent ventilation design you can provide an ongoing stream of free air changes to your

facility where ambient zones can exist.

To meet your fresh air requirements there is no more cost effective or efficient form of ventilation than by installing a natural ventilation system. As in nature itself, all things must be balanced to work properly and efficiently. A system that must change large volumes or air within a manufacturing facility must be balanced to its specific characteristics. Our engineers and designers will ensure the amount of inlet and exhaust air is balanced to meet your specific facility requirements. This is not simply a matter of installing louvers and vents.

Through our experience in this specialised industry we have achieved significant energy reduction and cost savings for our customers, in some cases reducing operational costs by in excess of 1M ¥ PA , even in relatively small factories; savings gained through simply removing the cost of mechanical air conditioning systems and replacing these with free fresh air systems.
