Hope Springs Institute is a 23-acre retreat Center located in Peebles, Ohio. Founded by two couples in 1995, the retreat center was incorporated as a 501-C3 in March of 2000.The land originally was comprised of 130 acres but in 2009 Hope Springs Institute sold and donated 107 acres to the Arc of Appalachia Land Preserve System. Throughout its 17-year history, Hope Springs has been the site of international gatherings including A Celebration Of Women’s Collaboration in 2005 and The International Peace Gathering in 2010. Hope Springs Institute sponsors over a dozen workshops through-out the year and is the site for many other groups who do work in healing, peace and leadership building.

Founder and Executive Director, Suzanne Stevens, recalls that her inspiration for creating Hope Springs came from her own experiences as a manager for Proctor and Gamble. “In 1977, I was a manager for P&G in a paper manufacturing plant in Green Bay. This was the first wave of hiring women managers. As part of the initial Women’s Support Group in Green Bay, I learned the power of focused, experiential learning and support groups.” Throughout her career at P&G and continuing after she left the company, Stevens designed and participated in experiential workshops throughout the country and the world. With a group of women, Stevens began dreaming of creating a Women’s Retreat and Learning Center. “ We wanted a place where women could come together to heal themselves, each other and the institutions in which they live and work. We had a dream of creating an environment that would hold and nurture us as we did this work,” she explains.

Stevens says her greatest joy has been to “ be on this beautiful and healing land… to work with circles of supporting people to unfold tis dream and to listen to those who come here as they tell their stories of transformation in their own lives; to witness the development of a new generation of leaders…”

When asked where she sees Hope Springs Institute’s place in the world, Stevens says it is to continue to fulfill its stated mission as part of a web of places that provide sacred space for healing and learning. The mission really says everything about Hope Springs: “Our mission is to provide Sacred Space for Feminist Education, Responsible Green Living, and Transformational Work in the Service of Healthy Relationship with Planet Earth, Global Peace, Social Justice, and Equality and Personal Development.” For more information on Hope Springs Institute, visit their website, www.hopespringsinstitute.org.

The Sounds of Spring How to Tune into Happiness

Sometimes it seems as if the music in your life is just not playing the songs you want to hear. The good news is the music that you want to hear is always playing; you need only to be tuned into the right frequency (frame of mind) to hear it.

I can already here you asking the question “how do I do that?” The answer is: You look for the things in your life that create the music you want to hear. Too often things that are unwanted in your life have your full attention resulting in sad songs that bring you down. If you were to make a conscious effort to find the good things in and around your life the music would change and you will find yourself singing along with a tune that uplifts and inspires you.

Again with the question “how do I do that?” Well, let me give you a few ways that are easy and that you can do right away. Let’s start with what you are watching on TV for entertainment. Take a few minutes and ask yourself if the programs that you watch make you feel happy or sad. Do they create mental stress such as worry, fear or sadness and focus on the bad in people or do the make you smile and inspire you to see the goodness in people.

Let me give you an example. I had just finished a day of work, I was feeling really good, I had a great meal with my wife and two teenage daughters and thought I would relax and enjoy something on TV. As I was surfing through the channels I came across what is called a reality TV show. It was new to me so I decided to check it out. The show was about a group of people living and interacting together in a large house somewhere in southern California. After about ten minutes of watching these young adults I noticed that I felt totally frustrated. They were verbally stabbing each other in the back, plotting to break up each others relationships and constantly complaining about how they were being mistreated by someone else in the group. I turned off the Television and sat there for a moment evaluating how I was feeling. I discovered is that great feeling that I had sat down with just ten minutes earlier was gone. It was replaced with a feeling of anger, sadness, and stress. I felt worn out.

by William Molitor, BCH, CI

So what happened? I knew that this was a group of people being paid to do the things that they were doing to create this show, but that did not change the fact that my mind became engaged in what was going on at a subconscious level. As these actors did these hateful things my mind would associate their actions to memories that are stored in my subconscious mind of other events or information that I had gathered throughout my life. This association would trigger the emotion appropriate to the thought. That emotion in turn would create a physical response that changed my whole self, physically, mentally as well as emotionally. In just a short time I had transformed a healthy happy body and mind into one that was stressed and sad.

I am not making a judgment about the show. I know it is simply about the network ratings and everyone knows that emotions are the biggest hook for ratings. What I am pointing out is that when you choose to put your attention onto something that creates negative feelings you will experience those negative feelings both mentally and physically. This is not limited to what you are watching but what you are listening to and thinking about, as well.

So the fastest and easiest way to feel healthy and happy is to consciously tune into the thoughts that provide those feelings. As you do this you will find that you will begin to choose to do other things that promote those happy feelings.

So don’t let this spring pass you by with a sad song. Change the channel. Tune into the thoughts that are playing the music that is happy, energetic and exciting to you. Then sing along, dance along, get into your music and experience the health and happiness that is just waiting inside of your thoughts.

Coming Full Circle and Coming of Age

by Cynthia M. Brown

I was born in the rolling hills and pine flats of northeastern Georgia-Appalachia. When I was very young, I wanted to be a park ranger. By the time I was eight, I wore glasses. My uncorrected vision was too poor to be able to train for that job. I was crushed. My second choice was to become a writer and an English teacher. I was a published poet by the end of my eighth year. I cooked my way through journalism school and, after dropping out in my junior year and returning a decade later, I decided that while I would like to teach, more students loans and more time in school was not what I wanted. I took my BA and began working in the news business.

I went back to cooking after two years because I could make more money cooking and I knew, if nothing else, I would at least get to eat once a day on someone else’s dime. I moved from place to place and learned a great deal about the food industry, both good and bad. After a nasty bout with cancer, I began working in the sustainable food movement and managing a farmers market. I became increasingly interested in our connection to food and how we commune around it and how food nourishes our bodies and our souls.

Recently, I attended a retreat in eastern Ohio. One of the core practices of the center is how food nourishes us body and soul. I was intrigued. As it happens, the center was seeking a new executive director. Through a series of unlikely and certainly guided events, I applied for and was offered the position. Now, I will be moving to the foothills of Appalachia to manage a 20 acre retreat center and oversee 110 acres that have been ceded to the Arc of Appalachia Nature Preserve. My job includes programming that stays true to the mission of healing the individual, the planet and the world community through peace education and mindful living as well as keeping an eye on those 110 acres. It is almost like being a park ranger!

So, at almost 49 years, I have come full circle. I am returning to my roots in Appalachia, though a little further north. I am involved in education. I am deeply committed to the principles of food as healing. I am participating in keeping a beautiful piece of the natural world intact. And, through this magazine and other efforts, I continue to write.

Sometimes, we do not see where the road of life is taking us. Sometimes, we spend a great deal of time seeking. Sometimes,

we are really not seeking but we are in training for what we have always known was our destiny. Everything I have ever done has prepared me to begin this new life in this sacred and beautiful place. I am humbled and amazed at how the Universe unfolds our life’s purpose. I have enjoyed every step of this path; the experiences I have had, the opportunities, the people I have met and cherished along the way.

The native peoples of the eastern woodlands believe that a person is not fully grown until they have seen 50 moons. They believe that we spend our youth doing the job of growing up. We spend our fertile years having and raising our children. When we are 50, we take our rightful place as adults and leaders of our community, having gained enough experience and wisdom to guide others. My fiftieth year begins in four short weeks. As I mark that milestone, I will begin to take my rightful place as a leader, guiding others in their paths toward peace and healing of themselves, this earth and the world community. This is my right and duty as a full adult. What a wondrous and serendipitous journey thus far and now the true adventure is just beginning.

Spring by David Mahen

As tiny bits of green appear in the muddy brown landscape at winters end, they herald the arrival of spring. Ahh, spring, its fi nally here, that time of growth, that time of renewal, that time of new love, new life, and new adventures. Our minds and hearts feel the energy of the abundant new life. Our own energy soars as we once again move out of our winter nests of confi nement and into the outdoors; such a change from the doldrums of winter.

The offi cial start of spring is the vernal equinox, even though the green hasn’t appeared and the days are still wintery, watery, and gray. We begin to feel the benefi t of longer days and the anticipation of spring steadily grows. While some of our feelings toward spring stem from our natural circadian rhythms of day, and night, and the changing seasons, the larger part are the feelings we embrace and hold deeply within our hearts.

So many of us miss out on some the joys of spring. There seems to be endless demands on our time, like work, family, home maintenance, rushing the kids to soccer, chess club, football and track meets. We rush from our jobs to one thing and another, grabbing fast food and relinquishing more and more of our most important time to the endless rush of things to do. What can we do to increase our joy and appreciation of spring?

In short, it begins with intention and crystallizes with action. We all know about intentions, but I believe it’s how we practice our intentions that increase their value.

• Begin the day with this little trick (courtesy of Zig Ziglar): Upon awakening each morning, sit up in bed, slap your hands together and exclaim with enthusiasm “It’s a great day to get up and get at ‘em.” This little practice sets a wonderful tone at the beginning of your day.

• Next, set your intentions in the morning, before the day takes over and sets your intentions for you.

• Make your fi rst intention on to recall your intentions throughout the day.

• Write down your intentions for the day, this day only. Some can and should be repeated such as “I see the best in everyone I encounter, I am grateful for all that I have and all that is, today I will notice the bounty of nature, today I love myself, and perhaps “today I will stay in my own business.””

• Meditate on them for 15 minutes. No time? A few minutes will do!

• Plant a few fl owers. In just a few minutes here and there you nurture them and they grow. Their colors and fragrances nurture you too.

You aren’t done yet. At the end of the day spend a few minutes with your journal and recall how you did today. Pick out the high points and record them, but leave the negatives behind. You will soon find that your actions follow your intentions, that like attracts like. After all, your intentions are a focusing of your thought, and one can look to many references on the power of our thought. Ralph Waldo Emerson wrote: “A man is what he thinks about all day long.” Marcus Aurelius said: “Our life is what our thoughts make it.”

Embrace the experience of spring and give thought to the wonder of new life and new beginnings. Each moment brings new life and a restoration of all things missing in the winter months. Hear the joy in the singing of the birds and the softness of the breezes blowing through newly sprouted leaves. Savor these moments for their transient beauty and be glad for the endless wonder of spring.

Our choice could be to keep doing what we do, working, running errands, worrying, and ignoring the present moments. Out thoughts would keep us there, in the same old pattern, ignoring the wonders that surround us. Instead, make space in your busy days to dwell on this beauty and wonder and fill your heart with joy and gratitude. With each passing moment that we dwell there our hearts expand; outpouring love beyond measure.

U niversal Prayer for Spring Blessing

by Rev. David Mahen Life springs forth in endless eternal variety,Creating splashes of color and sound,Let us give thanks for each new birth,As twig and tree and leaves abound.Bless this season for all it brings,Bless the new life; bless the ground.

I praise the endless miracles, The robin building her nest,Tree Frogs and Crickets harmonize,When evenings are warm as the sun retreats. And before I turn to this night to rest,I bless these creatures, every one.

That I could give back the joy they bring,From the first subtle changes in earth and air,I do so now with all my heart, I pray that my joy be returned, multiplied, Lifting each new life to greater heights,Bless them all, bless the spring.

Toward a New Life

Stopping smoking is a personal decision and a public act. Some do it many times and others are able to stop on the first, second, or third try.

There are about 400,000 deaths attributed to smoking each year. Smoking causes 90% of lung cancers and is the chief cause of emphysema and copd, which are lung conditions. If smoking is left unchecked, there is a good chance of succumbing to heart disease, diabetes, stroke, or cancer of the lung or other organs. Despite these grim findings, some 20% of the population continues to smoke, Quitting smoking is the single most important action a smoker may take to protect his/her health.

I was fifty four years old. I had smoked for forty years. I thought it was cool to smoke.

Over the past years, I had made every effort to stop smoking. I tried hypnosis, and nicotine gum and patches, nothing worked. I finally joined Nicotine Anonymous, a no nonsense approach to stopping, using the twelve steps and being led by those with “experience, strength and hope.” While attending, I learned that there was nothing attractive about smoking. I found myself angry. I set a date. I smoked through my date. The group encouraged me to set another date. I decided to go “cold turkey” which I had never attempted before.

Surprisingly, I made it past the third day. I continued doing it one day at a time. I admitted I was powerless over nicotine. I was not working at the time and I used this in my favor and slept a lot. I didn’t go out with smoking friends, I began new habits. Sometimes I would awaken at night with no one to talk to. I really thought, “this is it.” I prayed, and I got through each moment. I learned that a craving comes, and it will pass.

Different things work for different people. A program or support group works for one, doing It alone, works for another. And having a reason that speaks to the heart, may make the difference. For me, my sister had died of cancer a few years before. I prayed to her and it helped.

While giving up nicotine is difficult, it is possible. My advice to someone who wants to stop:

1. Consult a doctor

2. Set a date

3. Decide on a method or program

4. Begin a fitness routine

5. Watch diet and weight. Eat nutritious foods, mainly fruits and vegetables and some protein.

For me, I was used to a haze of smoke separating me from others. I had to get used to being close. Curtailing smoking has been well worth it. I am fourteen years free. I am a new person, it has led toward a new life.

I’m Adrienne Nguyen-Storer and I am ten years-old. I am a gymnast and compete for the USAG Level 5 team at Cincinnati Gymnastics Academy [CGA]in Fairfield, Ohio. I started going to Doc Baker because I hurt my back and when I did certain skills, like my tap swings on bars or my backwalkover, my lower back would hurt. My mom said that with all of the tumbling and swinging that I do during gymnastics sometimes my body needs help to get better and stay healthy. I went to a different doctor and his help only last for a little while. I liked going to Doc Baker’s office right away, because everyone is so nice and I get to see Ms. Krista too! After about three weeks of seeing everyone at Baker Chiropractic my back wasn’t hurting nearly as bad as it was before. Every now and then it still hurt to do my backwalkover

though and I would go see Doc and it would feel better right away. After another couple of weeks of seeing Doc Baker I was completely pain free!!! He even took care of my foot when that started hurting! My back doesn’t hurt at all any more but I still love going to see everyone at Doc Baker’s office and getting my treatments and adjustments. What I think is really funny, is that a lot of parents and gymnasts from CGA go and see Doc Baker now. He makes all of us feel better!!!

Join a Revolution in Child Care! LifeWays!

by Cynthia Aldingeradapted for Infinity by Meg Freeling

Early Childhood and Human Development Training: An Introduction - First time in Ohio!

Starts June 2011

While waiting to board my plane in a St. Louis airport, an announcement came that our flight would be delayed – again – and the sense of frustration among the adults mushroomed. A peacefully sleeping toddler began to stir. As he slid down from his mother’s lap, he began to walk around the rows of bolted-down seats, occasionally dipping his little head behind a chair, and then quickly peeking out at whomever he could engage with his twinkling eyes. Smiles began to emerge on faces, shoulders relaxed, and a soft chuckle began to float in the air. A sense of balance returned.

Beyond exhaustion, worry, fears and fuss, children lift our spirits and give us hope. Children are like heart medicine. They arrive in this world with the expectation that all is good and right, no matter what they encounter. Only through overt mis-teachings or unfortunate experiences will a child develop distrust or fear. The world is full of wonder for them.

How is it that every child is born with such openness and optimism? Where have they been before arriving here – on vacation? Held in the arms of angels, and fresh from a profound cosmic journey, they arrive as amazing spiritual beings wrapped in tiny packages called infants.

Children thrive in the warm, ‘home away from home’ atmosphere of LifeWays center-based and in-home childcare, serving children from infancy through age six. Mixed-age and family-style grouping and the same care providers year after year support the relationship-based care that children need.

LifeWays training is a guided experience that we share together to explore child development, our own development, and an introductory understanding of how our inner and outer lives intersect. It encompasses practical and artistic life skills and tools for creating childcare settings or parent-child programs. Integrated learning activities include projects like preparing simple and healthy meals, growing a simple garden, and other practical skills. They are combined with exercises to strengthen capacity for objective observation of children and nature. A primary

intention of the LifeWays training is to help participants come to a place where their own “Yes” to life resonates with and supports the children and families who come into their care.

The complete training cycle occurs over one year, comprised of four on-site sessions with a few months in between for mentor-supported independent study. This anchors the training in experience. Academic requirements include readings and presentations of papers and projects. Course completion results in a LifeWays Certification. Optional college credit is offered through Ashland University.

Susan Silverio describes how LifeWays training enhanced her Waldorf Kindergarten in Lincolnville, Maine: “LifeWays Training opened the door for me to rediscover and recreate what we have always known that young children need. LifeWays practices are based upon the fundamental need for relationship-based care (bonding and continuity), neurological research, and recognition of living arts (domestic, nurturing, creative and social arts) as central to the advancement of children’s social, emotional and intellectual skills.” She is now the East Coast Director for LifeWays!

You will find childcare providers, parent-child program leaders, parents, and home-based preschool teachers in the LifeWays circle - ages twenty to seventy. Even experienced teachers learn more about the living arts as a natural curriculum. Participants develop skills in the domestic and nurturing activities that support practical, daily life and learn how to create simple and engaging rhythms and routines.

While there are no prerequisites for LifeWays training, participants are expected to have a strong interest in human development and children. They also need to be open to the understanding that children are spiritual and physical beings and are to be respected as individuals with intention and purpose related to their infinitely unfolding personal biographies. The developmental picture of the child is primarily based on the research of Dr. Rudolf Steiner and supported by other contemporary early childhood research.

I realized it made a difference what the children saw us do and say. Our choices set a pattern, so we try to make sure they’re ones we can live with.

--We moved that sea of papers, books and bills—all dead things to little ones—from the kitchen to a home office.

--We focus on blessings. We don’t analyze or criticize.

--We don’t discuss plans too far in advance, but we absolutely do what we say we’re going to do. Our children count on that.

11Infinity

--Dirt, sand, mud, water, snow and rain are friends. I no longer apologize for my mucky backyard, or the stains on my kids play clothes. As one elderly lady said to us, “You can’t be that dirty, and not have had fun.”

--Sing, sing, sing! Even made-up silly songs. It feels so free and happy.

- Carol, parent and participant in LifeWays seminar

As fl ower buds continue bursting into color, and new plants emerge from your gardens, many folks have been sprouting interest in growing vegetables indoors. What would you think if you could harvest vegetables in less than one week from sowing your seeds? While this may defy logic, Chinese have been sprouting vegetable seeds, and eating their young shoots and roots as a valuable source of nutrition for over 5000 years. Accounts of sprouting appear in the Bible in the books of Ezekiel and Daniel, and are now widely used in health foods such as breads, crackers, cereals, supplements, sandwich wraps and ready-to-eat fresh from your local grocer and gourmet restaurants. The sprouting process is simple, fun and a great way to get many of the benefi ts from vegetables without waiting months for a garden harvest. The best part; seeds are inexpensive, and you do not need soil, fertilizer or even a yard to grow edible sprouts. There are many edible seeds you can sprout, such as: all bean varieties, alfalfa, sunfl ower, broccoli, clover, radish, arugula, cress, dill, fenugreek, mustard and grains such as, barley, wheat, rye, oats, spelt, millet, amaranth, corn and rice! Mix them in a stir fry, whirl them in soup, or sprinkle them atop your favorite salad; sprouts will add a fresh, nutritious and delicious addition to almost any meal.

Anyone can grow edible sprouts, even if you don’t have a particularly green thumb. The method for sprouting all seeds is the same, though the length required to accomplish germination may vary depending on the size and variety of seed. Simply fi ll a wide-mouth, quart sized mason jar one-third full with any edible seed you desire to grow. Then, add fi ltered water to the top of the jar. Typically, you need three parts water to one part seed, if you use less water, your seeds may not sprout. You may wish to purchase an offi cial sprouting lid, which is a simple plastic screen, or just use basic cheesecloth, and then fasten the screen or cheesecloth tightly on the jar with the ring lid. Allow your seeds to soak for 8-12 hours and then pour off all water, followed by rinsing your seed under a faucet with lots of water at high pressure, and room temperature. The high pressure helps to clean the seeds (soon to be sprouts) and infuses them with oxygen, as well as keeping them loose, which further helps with the draining process. Once rinsed, invert the jar and let it sit at an angle so it can drain and allow air to permeate the jar. The seed need to be rinsed a minimum of 2-3 times per day for optimal sprouting. Leave your jar inverted after each rinse, so that it thoroughly drains. Consider your sprouting vessel a micro-garden, which prefers sunshine, 70 degree temperature,

good air circulation, drainage and regular moisture for best success. By placing your sprouting jar next to a sunny window, and occasionally opening the window for better air exchange, your sprouts will thank you by accelerating germination, as well as increasing their abundance of vitamins and minerals. Within one day to two weeks, your sprouts will be ready to eat. You can tell that sprouts are ready by looking for visible roots and shoots that will emerge from the seed. Allow the shoots to grow at least one quarter inch before consuming, though waiting for shoots and roots to grow longer may be more to your liking. Experiment, and decide at what stage you prefer to eat your sprouts. Once they are ready to devour, drain all water from jar, and replace your screen lid with the original solid lid, and store the sprouts in the refrigerator. There is no quicker way to kill sprouts than by refrigerating them wet, so make sure you have drained off all excess moisture before sending them to cold storage.

Some seeds such as baby salad greens, wheat grass and sunflower can be sprouted and harvested for their vegetation. Though a bit more intensive, the process is still easier than growing a full-fledged backyard garden, and the results can be amazing. Prepare a horticultural planting tray by filling with a medium of vermiculite, soil-less organic potting mix, or a sheet of coconut fiber, better known as coir. The vermiculite or potting soil needs to be approximately two inches depth, or simply cut and lay the coir fabric to fit flush across the entire base of the tray. You will need a drip tray beneath your horticultural flat to catch the water that drains off after each watering. Then, simply soak desired seeds in room temperature filtered water for 8-12 hours. Rinse and drain seeds 4-5 more times over the course of the next two days. The goal is to have small roots before planting seeds in your tray. Thoroughly saturate vermiculite, organic potting soil or coir pad with water prior to sowing seeds in tray. Sprinkle seeds evenly across growing medium heavily, allowing seeds to touch one another for best coverage. Once seeded, cover the tray with an inverted nontransparent tray to keep light out and moisture in. A hand sprayer works best to keep trays moist, but keep in mind that too much moisture can cause fungus attacks, which could destroy your delicious crop. The coir pad will require more water than vermiculite or potting soil, so keep this in mind when planning your water regimen. A organic Liquid Sea Kelp fertilizer diluted with water and mixed in your hand spray bottle is suggested to apply every other watering for maximum flavor and health of your sprouted greens. After 3-4 days, when your sprouts reach 2-3 inches tall, remove the inverted lid and place your sprouted greens near a sunny window or under a florescent light, and watch them grow! You will need to add more water during this period of rapid growth, once or twice daily, as they are prone to drying out. It takes about ten days to be ready for harvest. Your shoots will be 4-6 inches tall, and will have their first set of leaves (cotyledons) unfurled, and typically the hulls will have fallen away. If the second set

of leaves emerge (the true leaves), then you have waited too long to harvest, and your sprouted greens may taste bitter. To harvest, simply cut the greens just above the medium and enjoy. While best eaten fresh, sprouted greens can be stored in your refrigerator for 1-2 weeks, Bon Appetite!

The miraculous process of germination produces large quantities of vitamin A,C, E, B2, B5 and B6, as well as increasing Carotene levels as much as eightfold. Mineral increases such as calcium, magnesium, iron, potassium, phosphorous, zinc and niacin are common in sprouted seeds, as well as beneficial chlorophyll. As significant, sprouts are attributed to neutralizing phytic acid, a substance that inhibits the absorption of calcium, magnesium, iron, copper and zinc. Also, the sprouting process neutralizes enzyme inhibitors, which could otherwise inhibit our very own necessary enzymes in our digestive tract, while producing other enzymes that actually help digestion. Sprouts are a powerhouse of nutrition, and they taste great too! At Marvin’s Organic Gardens, we offer dozens of certified organic sprouting seeds and sprouting kits, so that you will be equipped with all the accoutrements for sprouting your very own organic, edible seeds. Come visit us this spring at Marvin’s Organic Gardens, “Where Plants and People Bloom!“ For questions and comments, please contact Wes Duren at [email protected]

Attitude of Gratitude: Making Peace with What Is

by Leslie Stewart

The rule is there is more change than not. So if the rule is change, how does one become grateful and compassionate for what they already have? Moreover, when what they have leaves, moves, or is no longer in existence, how does one adapt? You adapt if you are in the ease of life, if you are enjoying what is, and if you are living your life in the moment rather than projecting yourself in the past, future or somewhere where you are not in the now. If you are enjoying what you have and you are in this gratefulness mode, and in this mode of appreciation for what you do have in your life, your family, your friends, your acquaintances, the lovely home, the appreciation for what is in existence rather than looking for something that is not in existence. By appreciating and loving your life as you live it from moment to moment. Love what is, enjoy what is, appreciate what is, and be grateful for what is. What is it that you do not have? You have everything you need when you are in appreciation and are grateful for everything that you do have---loving what is.

Isn’t it miraculous your day-to-day life and what you have? Remember that when something is no longer in your life, when something is taken away, perhaps there has been a death and you feel and emptiness or a void. Perhaps there is a loss of job. Perhaps there is a loss of home. Perhaps there is a loss of what is familiar to you. However, in looking at what is and those things that you do have, it makes you more appreciative of your life as you are living it in the moment. In realizing that when something is taken away or when there is a loss, you often times replace those things with something else. Another habit, another habit of thought, another habit of feeling or being or choosing. Everything becomes habit after a while…your thoughts, your feelings, your emotions. Therefore, if what is is no longer the way it is and it changes, you develop new ways of looking at things. New habits of thought, new feelings, new emotions, new beginnings.

Realize that everything is here on a temporary basis. Everything that is in existence is here for a quick moment in time. By realizing what you have and being appreciative for what is and enjoying your lives as they are and seeing that what you have is really so very much when you are looking at it through the eyes of love and acceptance and appreciation and joy and thankfulness. Moreover, when you view your lives as being in appreciation and gratitude, you are living in the moment and appreciating what is.

No matter what your life brings you it is because of your thoughts and feelings and emotions. Therefore, when things change, it

is because of something that has changed within you. Realize that that change that is occurring is a miraculous event giving you more choices more events to look at from a new perspective. That perspective of realizing that what you have chosen for yourself---what you have created for yourself is why you should be in appreciation. Create your life’s experience from whatever vantage point that you can find. However, we would suggest looking at it through the vantage point of appreciation and gratitude and love. For when you look through those eyes, and realize that everything that is in your existence is there because of your creation, you can observe it, feel it, be in it, and know wow look at what I am creating. Life is constantly changing because of your growth and experiences! It is all about the beingness of self and your divine appreciation of who you are, loving yourself and embracing yourself because that is the person that comes from within. Enjoy yourself from the inside out for that is the beautiful message!

Spring, more so than the beginning of a new calendar year, is a time of regeneration, of new life. Walking outdoors, even to and from the barn, is a walk full of reminders of this. The grass is taking on a vibrant shade of green, the earth smells moist and fertile, the trees are somehow more hopeful, their sap beginning its slow warming flow of nutrients. The air is filled with the cries of a flock of migrating birds; there are hundreds of them in our trees. Robins chase each other (it is after all the mating season for them), and the squirrels are busy chasing one another as well. Our horses begin their daily mud rolling to rid themselves of winter coats, allowing the sleek new coat underneath to begin to show through. And, yes, I hear the first “peepers” of the year – the tiny frogs that live in our drainage ditches are among the earliest to awaken and begin hollering for a mate incessantly.

In our relationships with each other, and the animals that live with us, we often feel that there are no new beginnings, no new starts. Yet, we are human beings that make mistakes just as the animals make mistakes. Sometimes it feels to us like we don’t understand the animals, that we cannot hear them. When we make a mistake in working with our dog, horse, cat, or bird we can feel that we have damaged that relationship, that we cannot start again and move forward. Most humans don’t sit down next to the dog they have just yelled at for chewing up the Oriental rug to explain that they are sorry for getting upset, that they love them but just are very angry and upset with their behavior. A rider who misunderstands a horse’s reaction, and overcorrects or disciplines the horse before realizing what is wrong, does not often stop and express their apology before moving on together.

I feel very fortunate that I have the ability to hear our animals telepathically. When I sit down to explain to Lukas, one of our Bassets, that I love him very much but I am very angry that he chewed up our new rug, I am able to convey that love to him clearly. I use telepathy to send not only images around what I am saying, but also the emotion of love that I feel for him no matter what his behavior has been. I am able to move forward in our relationship, beyond that spot, and work with him in a different way to hopefully save the rug from further damage. Our ability to connect with each other comes from our love for each other, and it is that connection – heart chakra to heart chakra – that allows us to hear each other telepathically. It is the foundation of communicating with animals.

We have also chosen to move our relationship with our horses

Starting Again by Cindy Huff & Terri Noftsger

in a new direction. Recently I realized that, much as I love to ride and groom my horse Cheyenne, something was missing from our relationship. We have brief moments of connection together, and she was able to understand the pictures I send her of what we are going to do. Still, the relationship felt two dimensional to me. What I wanted with Cheyenne was a full, creative, loving relationship full of connection and trust. I wanted us to BOTH be able to think, to be curious, and to enjoy our time together. So, I chose to restart our relationship, and to restart myself with respect to how I work with horses. We found a methodology that puts relationship first, and we found a local trainer in that methodology to help us. Terri decided she would work with her horse Rohan as well.

What I realized, as I started this whole new way of working with a horse, is that I am so afraid to make a mistake. If I do something wrong, I could confuse my horse and ruin the work together. The first time I worked with Cheyenne without the trainer, I did make a mistake. I was upset with myself, but moved on to something we both knew how to do and ended there. The next time we worked together – amazingly – we both did very well. That was a huge lesson for us. We can make mistakes together, and we can move on from them to grow and change and understand one another. The relationship will grow, just as the grass grows, even in winter. I am grateful that I am able to hear the animals, and that they can hear me. They are amazing in their patience, forgiveness, and willingness to connect with and love us.

If you are interested in adding the dimension of telepathic communication to your relationships with the animals in your life, please join us for our Animal Communication Level I class on Saturday, April 30th and Sunday May 1st!

One of the most popular fruits in the world, the orange is known for its powerful healing benefi ts. With several varieties available throughout the year, one can choose an orange that is sweet, bitter or sour according to your own preference.

Navel, Valencia and Jaffa oranges are ideal for making juices. In the orange family, there are also the Mandarin, Clementine, Minneola. and Kumquat that are the most familiar.

Oranges are loaded with phytonutrient compounds, which provide important healing properties. We already know that oranges are an excellent source of Vitamin C, just one orange provides the daily requirement. Vitamin C disarms free radicals and prevents damage of cells, especially in the digestive system.

Research has shown that Vitamin C included in your daily diet is associated with a reduced risk of death from all causes

including heart disease, stroke and cancer. Consuming oranges is vital for building a healthy immune system and reducing infl ammatory conditions, such as asthma, osteoarthritis, and rheumatoid arthritis.

In addition, another benefi t from this citrus treat is fi ber, oranges provide over 12% of the daily value, which has been shown to reduce high cholesterol and keep blood sugar levels under control, which makes it a very healthy snack for people with diabetes.

Oranges also have a good source of B vitamins, folate, vitamin A, calcium and potassium. Oranges can be stored in the refrigerator or room temperature. Many recipes using the whole orange, zest or the juice, compliments the dish by adding a refreshing and delicious fl avor.

Wake up with the brightness of the sun, reach for an orange!

Dream Interpretations

“ I never dream,” ”When I dream, I never remember them,” “My dreams don’t make sense…one minute I’m skiing down a snow bank and the next minute, I’m cooking in a bathing suit!”

Does this sound like you? Much to the surprise of many, we do dream EVERY NIGHT! It’s not that we don’t remember

our dreams it’s that we don’t recall them. Your subconscious mind remembers everything that it has ever seen, heard, done and/or had done to us.

So we buy a book. Unfortunately, the books we buy give us universal definitions. What makes the dream real in your life is what’s going on in your life.

For example, you have a dream that you are in a car and you are riding in the backseat. How are things in your life? Are you going through stressful situations? Are you feeling lost? Well, it could mean that you feel you are out of control of your life…someone else is ‘driving’ you, taking you where they want you to go. On the other hand, if things are going well and you feel you are in a good place in your life, the dream could simply mean relax and enjoy the ride.

That’s why it is so important to learn your symbols, your patterns. They won’t be like anyone else’s. Yes, the universal definition will be the same…but the meaning will be different.

On a spiritual level, your dreams are talking to you. They are giving you answers to your questions, resolutions to your issues and/or perceived problems. And guess what???? It’s FREE!!! The Hebrew scripture ‘The Talmud’ tells us that “a dream that is not interpreted is like a letter that is not opened”. Dreams reveal our thoughts, attitudes, states of awareness and who you really are. When you know your thoughts, you discover who you are and what you identify with…because as most of you know, you become what you think. THOUGHTS ARE THINGS-CHOOSE THEM WISELY!

We are not human beings having a spiritual experience; we are spiritual beings having a human experience. That being said, how else can we hear/know anything other than from our Spirit? That’s where your dreams come in, that’s how your Spirit communicates with you.

Every dream is about YOU, the dreamer;

Every person in your dreams represents an aspect or quality of YOU;

Every thing in your dreams represents a part of YOU.

The actions in your dreams are occurring in YOUR own mind.

Since every dream is about you, is it feasible to think that the Universe would not give us the information and tools to understand them? If we can’t understand them, then why bother? It would be like going to a counselor who speaks a foreign language. It’s up to you to either learn the language or have a translator.

With your dreams, you can be and do both…YOU can learn

Serendipity

by Tina Armor

It is hard to believe, yet less than one month ago, three friends Diane, Tina and Olivia met one Saturday morning at the Fairfield public library. We came to discuss how, when and where we might expand and offer our collective spiritual purpose(s) within the framework of community.

We each came to the table from different life experiences, interests and perspectives. Have you ever heard the phase, God is in charge? The questions and concerns flowed while the solutions unfolded with a life of their own. The serendipitous energy from above streamed down upon us as rays from a mystical source.

Within a few hours we had selected a date, May 14, Saturday, 10am to 5pm, and a location Receptions in Fairfield for our first psychic fair. We decided to invite healers (3), readers (3), venders (3) and a wonderful lady to provide snacks. We were ready with a deposit and the contract would be mailed to Tina the following Monday. Admission would be free and the cost to the healers, readers and venders would be very affordable.

Shortly afterwards we met again to implement the publicity of our small venture. We are working well together. Each contributing to create a loving attitude and environment that will welcome you, family and friends to the Spiritual Mystic Rays Psychic and Holistic Health fair.

With Peace,

While learning for and about herself, she found that she had a natural gift for listening, interpreting dreams, counseling others and helping them discover their true self (as scary as that can be). As a substitute teacher for ‘at-risk’ students, she found that she had a real talent for getting the students to talk about their lives and discovered that her teaching style was more about inspiring others to realize their potential than it was about English, Math and Social Studies. She is now in the process of earning her Doctorate of Metaphysical Psychology (Mpsy.D) through the University of Sedona and is excited to be sharing what she has learned.

Fibromyalgia, Fact or Fiction?

In recent years the medical community has changed the diagnosis of some chronic aches and pains at specific areas of the body from myofibrositis to fibromyalgia. Instead of pain and inflammation in the fibrous area of the body, it is now in the muscles as well as the fibrous areas of the body where muscles attach to the bone. Not including the inflammation factor. There are 16 points that are indicated as being very tender to touch that is termed “Fibromyalgia”.

Some of the symptoms are chronic pain that you have experienced for the last three months or pain on both sides of your body. You will have an all-over pain that you just can’t shake. Your joints feel tender, and there doesn’t seem to be any explanation for your misery. You may feel as though you are living a life of fatigue and depression that you can’t explain.

Is this pain above or below the waist? Does this pain interfere with your daily living or is it attended by fatigue? In the last four weeks, has the pain interfered with your sleep, ability to concentrate, ability to do your housework or occupational work? Do you have muscle tenderness, flu-like aching, dull pain in tendons and ligaments? All this is attended by the ten tender spots on the back and legs plus six spots on the front of the body that is used for diagnosis of fibromyalgia.

The pharmaceutical answer for treating this condition for which there is no known cause, according to the medical community is, LYRICA. However, this drug, as enumerated by the maker, may cause suicidal thoughts or actions in a small number of people. It can cause a change in mood or behavior. It can also cause swelling of your hands, legs and feet which can be serious to people who have heart problems. It can cause dizziness and sleepiness. You may also feel sick, feverish, have blurry vision and kidney problems that may require dialysis. Weight gain and a dry mouth are among the other symptoms. Warning! Do not stop taking Lyrica without talking to your doctor. If you stop

suddenly you may have headaches, nausea, diarrhea or trouble sleeping and if you have epilepsy, you may have seizures more often. This does not sound like a product that should be taken by anybody. Certainly not by prescription.

The medical community has stated that there is no known cause, but big pharma has a drug for it. All the side effects of the drug itself will far offset any benefits. When in essence the causative factor that I have seen in the last 34 years is adrenal gland fatigue that controls all the ligamentous attachments of muscle to the bone. Getting rid of the stress factors that are wearing the adrenal out, takes care of the problem. Between the gluten reaction from foods (present in all people who have had the MMR shots) and candida albicans, a yeast bacteria being in the blood stream, it is a toss up which fatigues the adrenal glands the most. Both can be corrected without any drugs. Taking away these stressors, the body can function normally without all these aches and pains.

Depression seems to accompany the problem and call be corrected by treating the pineal gland in your head that causes depression when it is not performing the way it should. There is a vitamin called Para Pineal designed especially for the pineal gland that eliminates the cause of depression.

It is a bit freighting to read the directions and side effects of Big Pharma’s answer to a simple problem. The body has it’s own ability to heal itself if given a chance with the right help. With the aid of a few vitamins and enzymes plus some dietary changes the adrenal glands can rest and not be exhausted. Therefore they can do their job and provide the joints with the lubricates they need to prevent them from becoming “rusty” and nonfunctional, stiff and sore to touch.

All the sixteen points that are used to diagnose “fibromyalgia” are nothing more than joint connections and ligamentous attachments in the body. Neurologic dysfunction to these areas are also contributors to the tender spots that are used for determining whether the patient has the condition. In other words nerves that are entrapped or impinged could be the causative factor that are

making the tender spots. This then becomes an issue that chiropractic can correct.

The Great Outdoors by Dr. Susan Payson

It seems to me to be common sense – children need to play outside. Fresh air, sunshine, exercise, learning about nature, getting muddy – it’s all good! Two new medical studies just proved this to be true!

Harvard University and the Albert Einstein School of Medicine have conducted research and found what appears to be a causal link between low Vitamin D levels in children and higher rates of asthma and food/environmental allergies, such as eggs, peanuts, ragweed, and oak. Their solution? Spend time outside in the sun! Why? Because the sun’s rays contacting your skin stimulates the production of Vitamin D! This far outweighs the benefi ts of Vitamin D additives to milk or food –absorption is only 60% or less through the gut. This means that your child is not getting enough of this vital vitamin if you primarily rely on milk to provide it. In fact, it is estimated that one would need to drink 50 glasses of milk per day in order to ingest the required amount of Vitamin D!!!! The Harvard study and the Vitamin D Council, an organization dedicated to educating the public about Vitamin D, specifi cally state that sunblock prevents the skin from being able to produce Vitamin D. They recommend against regularly using sunblock!!! This

is something I long suspected, but now is proven. Well, what else is Vitamin D good for? Strong bones!! As an ER physician, I have noticed a trend in recent years – I have seen many more complete fractures in young children than I ever did 10 years ago. Back then, most kids who slipped and fell or had other low impact injuries would present to the ER with what is called plastic deformities of the bone – buckling or bending or fracture on only one side of the bone (buckle, torus, green stick fractures may be the terms you have heard). The bones were splinted and casted and healed. Now, low impact injuries tend to result in adult type broken bones – true fractures that often need surgery to correct. I can’t remember the last time I saw a buckle fracture, or any of the other childhood type fractures! Personally, I believe it may be due to low Vitamin D levels. As if that was not bad enough, the Vitamin D Council claims that low Vitamin D levels may also be contributory to autism, diabetes, heart disease, autoimmune disorders, even cancer. You can access links to more information and studies on these subjects at www.vitamindcouncil.org.

What else does a child get from being outside? Fresh air – important when you consider a winter spent breathing

recirculated air with all those nasty airborne germs! Exercise – walking, running, climbing – all things important for muscle development, heart health, and strong bones (weight bearing activities stimulate a child’s bone growth and calcium deposition!). Face it, childhood obesity is the result of a sedentary lifestyle just as much as it is from eating junk food. Creativity – allowed the time to explore, a child can make toys and games out of found objects while on their outdoor adventure! There is real value to that skill – it satisfies a child’s need to stretch his/her imagination (which is required in order to properly develop problem solving and other intellectual skills) and decreases the unhealthy tendency of today’s youth of needing an adult to tell them how to play. Mood lifting – the sights and sounds of nature have a wonderful way of refreshing everyone’s spirit!

Outdoor time is not meant to be an afterthought or an ‘if we have time for it’ type of activity. It is meant to be a central part of the family’s life – your health is on the line! Opt for time outside instead of video games, internet, TV, and all other passive forms of entertainment. Get outside!!!! (Of course - the area should be cleared of dangerous objects and a parent must be supervising!) Have a great spring!

My Mother... The Wind Beneath My Wings

My mom always said, “it’s not how you survive the storm, but how you dance in the rain”…and my mom was a “rain-dancer”.

Rosabelia, or Rosie to friends who loved her, and my mama, was born and raised on Guam, a beautiful tropical island in the Northern Pacific. During WWII, she and her family were prisoners of war, until they were liberated by the Americans in 1945. During that time they suffered many atrocities and cruelties that war seems to bring out of man. When my mom was 16, she contracted tuberculosis and physicians told her she would not live to see 21….to which she replied, “You didn’t put me on this earth, and until my Maker decides to take me home, I will live my life to the fullest as long as He gives me life.” So my mother’s journey through life began…You see, because of the tuberculosis, they had to remove one of her lungs. This did not stop her drive and desire to live, and live life to the fullest she did! Growing up, I have so many wonderful memories, mom playing ball with us, singing to us, brushing my hair and having “girl-talk”, going with us to events, working very hard, and always, always with so much joy and exuberance. Her beautiful smile outshined the sun!

Mom wanted to do so many things in life, some she achieved, and some she was unable to achieve because of her illness. But mom never had the “woulda, shoulda, coulda” mentality, she just redirected her energies to other things and always faced them with passion and with all the gusto her body would allow. One of the dreams mom had was to be a teacher, but because of recurring visits and long stays in the hospital throughout her young life, she was unable to finish school. Still, nothing hindered her passion for books and reading, which followed her throughout her life. Mom was always surrounded by books, she loved to read! My husband, who loved my mom so much, gave her a beautiful gift once with a poem that read, “To teach is to reach out and touch the hands, the hearts and the minds of tomorrow.” That being said, my mother was the best teacher to her children and grandchildren, friends and family..…teaching us all the precious value of life, family, devotion to God, and how to always spread your wings and soar with the wind and never give up. In her own special way, mom always allowed us soar in the wind, to follow our dreams, guiding us with encouragement, kindness and such deep love that we always knew nothing could or would stop us from achieving whatever our hearts conceived! She guided us through life with kindness and love, and always will be the wind beneath our wings.

As time passed, the illness overtook her physical energy….but her mental, emotional and spiritual energy never wavered nor faltered. Her ever-present smile and positive encouragement was a beacon of light to all who knew mom. The love and passion she and my dad shared throughout their over half-century marriage endured and was as strong as the first day they met when my dad was a sailor stationed on Guam. A true and beautiful love story. As mom knew her incredible journey was nearing its end, she never once felt sorrow nor regret for the things she could not accomplish, only absolute gratitude for the time God gave her and the family she nurtured and loved. Throughout her life, whenever anyone asked how she was, with that radiant, beautiful smile, her always sincere response was, “How could I not be great…I’m still here.” For someone being told she would never reach 21, my mother lived a full, passionate, beautiful, and incredible life to the age of

Remember, one may lose a job, a house, a lover may part or a loss of a family member or pet, but we never, ever lose the home. The Visual home inside our own soul-mind-system, that is, our visual lab system.

The visual lab system works as follows:

1) Visualize and understand your own beliefs, list all of them, be detailed, separate your belief system from untruths, they may be hurtful. Note: Be comprehensive in what you do believe, true or not, this is important. Progress, type in visually what you do want in your system.

2) Find a quiet place, a white candle (non-scented) and light the candle

3) Find the blue dot on this page. The next step is to touch the blue dot, close eyes, use the hand you write with.

4) Next, Breathe deep, notice the touching of the blue dot opens the door to your Visual lab. Be detailed. “See” your “magic” laptop computer on. Delete anything you don’t want in your life.

5) See yourself in your lab. Type in what you are to become. Visualize in detail what you are working on. Say it, touch the words with your mind. Press enter, Press send! Visual Destiny: Bloom or Gloom

by Ráven79! On her 79th birthday, the doctors told her she had pancreatic cancer and would only have three months to live…to which mom replied, with her sweet smile, “Once again, I will leave this life only when my Maker calls me home.” But this time, mama knew, she was not afraid, and she was ready. Her journey through this life was filled with so many friends and families that loved and treasured her…she was an inspiration to everyone who met and knew her. Her friends, family, people she touched, no matter how briefly and no matter the time span, came to pay their respects to Rosie, an incredible woman with such passion for life, compassion and devotion to her friends, and deep enduring love for her family. I miss my mother with every single breath I take and will forever miss my beautiful beacon of hope, faith and light. Because of my mom, I am who I am today…a strong, compassionate, loving and spiritual woman, here for my family and friends at moments’ notice, just like Rosie.

I was blessed to hold my mother’s hands as she soared into heaven…and sharing her last moments with my mom, I know, without a shadow of doubt, when it is my time to leave this life, family gone before and Angels do surround you, keeping you safe and preparing you for your journey home…my mama spoke with them as she softly closed her eyes, took her last breath, and quietly…as she lived her life, gently went home.

Moons. Your ruling planet, Mercury, will be retrograde from March 31 to April 23, giving you an opportunity to reflect on what you want and how to initiate it. A parent (or a job situation) is in process of leaving, hence your interest in making new beginnings!

a Cancer June 22-July 22

As April comes in, you are focused with situations involving your career, your status in life, and/or some new beginnings for you or a parent fig-ure. This all may be a bit unsettling, as Cancer does not appreciate the direct, frontal approach, and April’s new and full moons will show this in big bold living colors! Many may actually be on new jobs, or having to learn the ropes in a new situation. And to be perfectly honest, the other major planets are also creating changes at home and within partnership areas. By the time May comes in the new and full moons here will find you more relaxed, and finding support from friends, both old and new. They speak your language, and can help you rise to new levels of under-standing in assessing your partnerships.

b Leo July 22 – August 22

The lion kings among us start off April with great enthusiasm for expanding horizons – either for career, vacation, or personal improvement. This first half of 2011 will be a great time to “think big”, as the wheels you set in motion will last for a long time. But of course, there is a price to pay for all this excitement, and in your book, it is definitely worth it. The Mercury retrograde has you studying something new, or possible talking to or traveling on account of relatives at a distance. New Moon early April says you are serious about learning something that just might take a long time to unfold, but stick with it, as it will reward you greatly. A major area of interest in May will be the price of everything – income versus outgo. By the full Moon on May 17 you will be well aware of dollars spent on the home, or perhaps because you are a parent who is paying alimony!

c Virgo August 22 – September 22

OK Virgo, time to bite the bullet! Which of course you are well equipped to do, since nothing escapes your gimlet eye. April starts with your ruling planet, Mercury, retrograde in the sign of Aries in your house of major finances. Obviously this relates to tax time, but also you may be realizing or arguing about how much money the partner has spent or had to spend. Saturn in the other money house is forcing you to take a hard look

^ Aries March 20 – April 19

This will be a time that will go down in the history books! There are 2 big planets and 4 personal planets all in Aries, the sign of war, violence, destruction, as well as new beginnings, and pioneering. Beginning with outbreaks in Egypt and Libya, and upsets in the USA , and now earth changes in Japan, affecting the Pacific and coastal California, we can see the destructive side of Aries first hand. In our personal lives, we are called either to break free from old patterns or to deal with our anger issues. No matter how we do it, we are met with major changes in career and/or family, and must come to the bargaining table with significant others to find a happy medium. Since ancient and modern prophets have indicated that nature follows man’s lead, then humankind is seeing the parallel of their violence in nature’s fury. Now we see clearly what must be fixed, or eliminated. Mercury retrograde will help us look around to access the situation and begin the repair programs.

_ Taurus April 19 – May 20Taurus signs (by birth or by essence) are finding the pileup of Aries energy in an area of life related to illness, problems with loved ones who are becoming agitated, maybe violent, or the issues could show up at the workplace with tension and unrest behind the scenes. Be careful of working with machinery or driving on the highway, as inattention could cause accidents. A very good way to deal with all this excessive energy is to look around and begin a real cleanout project. (Taurus always has too much “stuff”). The new Moon on April 3 can begin these projects and the full moon on April 18 will show you how much easier and happier it makes you. Saturn is requiring that you take a hard look at the employment or labor picture and decide what you really need to do about it. May’s new and full moons will bring about some important decisions about finances which involve significant others.

` Gemini May 20 – June 21

All this extra energy in the cosmos is basically good news to Gemini. You are being stirred into action in regards to your future plans, making new friends, enlarging your circle of connections, and finding opportunities all around you. Also, you could seriously be interested in a romantic situation (especially with someone you have known a long time, or your child/children may be embarking on some unusual activity and/or sudden activity because of the mate. Part of this time frame may find you concerned over a loved one needing a doctor’s attention, possibly more so in May. And you are already aware that, in order to bring in the “new”, you must let go of the old, so a cleanup project is very much a part of May’s new and full

at what is fair or reasonable, and since you usually work harder than anyone else, you deserve an equitable share. The transiting Pluto is in your corner, especially as it is re- designing your sense of self worth. A child may be growing up and accepting more responsibility. The new moon on May 3 will show you that you are getting the paper work together in order to support your case. The full moon on May 17th can be paper work completed, or news about financial matters from the lawyer, or even from relatives at a distance.

d Libra September 22 – October 23

With Saturn, planet of lessons and responsibility halfway through your sign, you are feeling the weight of personal obligations in contrast to the seeming freedom and excitement that your partner may be experiencing. In April, the house of significant others is action packed, and potential for new horizons coming in big time. Or you could be noticing that new partners, clients, friends or companions are keeping your dance card very full! Or you may simply be aware that the partner is excited about new beginnings which leaves you with much of the routine procedures to solve. This partner/friend will spend the retrograde Mercury in April reviewing his position and preparing for new growth ahead. By May, the new moon in a money house can bring in extra income (or extra expenses), and by mid May the full moon will highlight the amount of money necessary to re-furbish or improve existing home or property. Take advantage of Saturn’s demand to improve your physical body.

e Scorpio October 23 – November 21

You are a force to be reckoned with, and especially in these 2 months, there is much on your plate where work and employment are concerned. Really big plans are in the offing, and you are more than eager, but once again, Mercury retrograde says “go back and check the figures”. There is a reason for every delay, and you are learning that you must allow even the slowest of players to have a chance on the playing field.. We know you would like to win the whole war all by yourself, but right now “winning” means you have adjusted your plans to some of their input. New and full moons in May will bring you right in line with a long-awaited financial position. Anything in your world right now relating to child, children or pleasure can bring you great joy. Take a trip to the ocean! And for those Scorpios out there who pretend not to be psychic, the universe is giving you a glimpse of just how powerful you are.

f Sagittarius November 22–December 21

The house of recreation, enjoyment, love affairs, pleasure and children burns bright for you right now. You can be enjoying many new interests, and almost excessive zeal. Some of this new energy may be because you are involved with restructuring your income level, and need to improve you own self worth. And as always, it doesn’t take you long to come up with some new ideas. Saturn is suggesting that you take the time to plan carefully, and with a certain amount of restraint, as your initial response to life is to push into overdrive! But your ruling planet is right now in an excellent position to propel you forward, and the results will be with you for a long time. New Moon in April is all there for you, and May’s new moon has you checking on the expense program.

g Capricorn December 21 – January 19

You’ve got a lot on your plate right now, Capricorn. And perhaps that is the reason that you need to go through a re-adjustment program for just how much you can and cannot do. Your health is up for grabs, so be sure to take the time necessary to see if anything needs to be fixed. Especially true if some of you have sugar issues. Matters dealing now with parents, or with the existing home are on the forefront, and the Mercury retrograde in April will find you checking out these issues. Some parents could create more work for you as well. You may feel a bit uneasy if there are siblings who need help but can’t be helped. But this is also a good time for you to realize that the phrase “let go and let God” is especially true for you as you tend to take on more work than is reasonable or even necessary. However, May proves to be a very enjoyable month, so do take the time to “stop and smell the roses”.

h Aquarius January 19 – February 18

Your mind is on overdrive right now, Aquarius, as your ruling planet, Uranus, has finally entered Aries for a 7- year stay, and that indicates you are ready, willing and able for new learning, new experiences and even new travel if such opportunity would come about. News about or from siblings or relatives may register strong in April, and the transiting Saturn requires that you go slow and get the details all in place before you plunge. Pluto, in the background is demanding that you start to organize your affairs, if not your home and accept the responsibility for ignoring the effects of too much on your plate, either literally or figuratively. Home and family matters are strong in May, and the demands here may be on the financial side. Even so, invest in a “sacred space” for yourself, as your spiritual self is growing steadily and you need to be ready.

i Pisces February 18 – March 20

For you early Pisces, your ruling planet, Neptune is dancing around the front door of your sign, and is about to prove to you that the past 7 years of Neptune in Aquarius (wanting to wake up but being afraid of it) are over, and the time has come to accept your ultimate spiritual self as your goal in this lifetime. You still have another year to take the plunge, but the planets right now in Aries are really talking very loud about personal change, and acceptance of new challenges. Mercury retrograde in April will give you a last chance to think things over, but when all is said and done, you are about to be a “new you” in the long run. Learning to accept the fact that you are guided from above will accelerate your sense of personal value and show you that “when God is for you, no one can be against you!
