Tips and tricks to get children to try healthy foods

Tip cards forABCPLAY WITH ME
parents
Think about colourChildren love colour and are drawn to different bright and unusual shapes. So why not play around with the use of colour to encourage them to eat the ‘red’ or ‘yellow’ shape.
Play along with them and make it into a game. This way they are having fun and being
healthy. The result is that the good nutrition is going into their tummies, helping them grow stronger and learn easier. The right nutrition helps the brain engage and focus, meaning your child can learn new things all day long without difficulty.Think about the use of colour and make it exciting to eat.

Play with it!Children love story time so why not make a story or scene out of fruit and vegetables to ecourage them to use their own powerful imagination.
You are giving them control through what they visualise but you are in control yourself as they are playing with and eating exactly what you want them to.
Use a different set every time as this gives the ability to relate it to what they are into, like Disney films.
Letting them play with their food allows them to gain a much better understanding as they are likely to put it to their mouth to taste it.
Eat a piece = 1 sticker reward
Make it fun!Relate it to what they enjoy playing with. Making it look like a toy will grab their attention as it’s a ‘new’ toy but you can also eat it! Weird right? Think about how it comes across to your child... Fascinating? Yes. Using a variety of different colours, fruit and vegetables
can really make the food come alive. Think about personalising the food, naming it and giving it a voice. This will make your child laugh and have a slight feeling towards the food. Don’t you remember doing this when you were a young child?Make it fun!

Get them involved
Let them help you make the exciting food and characters. This will get them thinking creatively and they will want to show you what they have made. Praise them and then ask them to eat the eye, leg, head and so on. This increases the amount of interaction between parent
and child as well as teaching them along the way. Their own unique characters may surprise you, children are extremely creative and you need to allow them to play and experiment to understand new food. One piece of fruit or veg eaten is a sticker to add to their collection.

There are some 26 stages, some that need to be coloured in according to the fruit or vegtable and others that need to be answered correctly. Each stage passed means a steady progression to the next letter. With only five life lines, you need to be careful. There is a lot of useful information and facts within the app which might suprise you too, so give it a go, see how much you know about nutrition.
If you colour outside the lines you will get a cheeky message telling you not to do this as it will damage one life line gradually.
Answering a question wrong is an instant life lost and again, you will receive a little message telling you that you’re a ‘silly salad’ and so on.
