Our Facebook live events are held on the 3rd Thursday of every month at 4:00 pm
ET! Our next one is on 3/16/2017. This session is hosted by our Instructional team Talk
about useful classroom resources!
Join us live on Facebook on
March 16 th at 4:00 pm ET.
The month of March begins the start of many spring time activities in nature, but also the flurry of many outdoor activities. For students, we highly suggest you help take advantage of area activities and events where you student can express their natural abilities and en-joy being expressive. It’s important to allow our students time to just be children and engage in that much needed energy release in what-ever format they enjoy most, whether it be outdoor physical activity, artistic expression, musical composition, or technological fun! Sched-uling in time for these fun activities to take place will help your stu-dent then focus on the school work when it needs to happen and may build in the important skills associated with scheduling and pri-oritizing.
Here at The Keystone School, we also want to be able to learn more about our students and all of the amazing talents that they do pos-sess, both academic and social in nature. That is why this spring, we will not only be hosting our first Brain Bowl competition at the end of this month, but will also be holding a Keystone’s Got Talent event! There are details on page 5 and more will come soon!

adapt to change.”

AN INSIDE LOOK AT CRISIS TEXT LINE
Keystone Guidance Assistant, Disa Turner is a counselor for the Crisis Text Line.
This program is not affiliated directly with The Keystone School, but can be an im-
portant resource of information to have on hand.
Who Are They:
Almost 3,000 volunteer crisis counselors, or, as they call themselves “CC’s”. Counse-
lors all complete an application process, background checks, and 34 hours of training
on issues like depression, anxiety, eating disorders, LGBTQ, self-injury, and bullying.
After successfully completing the training, Each counselor volunteers four hours per
week. Supporting the crisis counselors are the awesome supervisors, who have Mas-
ter’s degrees or Ph.D.'s in psychology or social work.
What They Do:
If there is a crisis issue to deal with, then this is the best place to turn. The team
practices active listening to make sure everyone is heard, understood, and cared for.
In roughly 1% of all cases, if there is extreme concern for a texter’s immediate safe-
ty, we contact the texter’s local emergency services to perform an Active Rescue.
Active Rescues test knowledge, skills, focus, and calm to the limit. However, The Cri-
sis Text Line is not a substitute or replacement for long-term or professional care.
Some Numbers:
Crisis counselors are available 24/7. No matter what time it is, someone is always
awake and ready to listen. Our Keystone Guidance assistance, Last month alone,
almost 38,000 people texted into Crisis Text Line. 93% of those texters got connect-
ed with a crisis counselor within five minutes, though our wait time can increase a
little during periods when a lot of people text at once.

MOTIVATIONAL TIPS
FROM STUDENT SUCCESS ADVISOR
MR. DAN PUENTES

“ The secret of
getting ahead is
getting started”
~Mark Twain
The best place to get motivation support is from you Student Success
Advisor. We offer some of the best practices needed to stay motived.
We offer tips on time management as well as scheduling. You can reach
us at [email protected].
Some of the best questions that are asked are questions that are very
detail oriented. You want to make sure you ask about time manage-
ment and scheduling as well as where the ROC-K course is located so
you can review it. Remember your success is up to you. If you want the
most positive results during your time here at Keystone I suggest you
use all the tools available to you.
If you are a new Keystone parent/guardian, we have also prepared sev-
eral documents to help you to get oriented to Keystone and start to em-
brace your role as the parent of a successful independent learner! We
suggest you review all the documents carefully and keep them for refer-
ence. You can download them to your computer, print them, or come
back to this article again and again to view them as needed and the only
one we need back from you is the Handbook Acknowledgment form (if
not already submitted). We strongly encourage you to take advantage
of as many webinars, tools, and support features as possible to get the
most out of your Keystone experience!

SAT/ACT PREPARATION
Guidance frequently gets asked by students and parents about ACT and SAT Test Prep programs. While Keystone offers access to some independent study materials through the Guidance Services Resource Center, many students want a more formal study program. K12 has two new offerings to meet the need: 1. A 6-week teacher-led test prep program, with 6 hours of live instruction offered
per week, online study program, practice tests, and live teacher help desk ses-sions.
2. A 6-week study program, supported by teachers, with access to online lessons, recorded teacher instruction, live help desk sessions, and practice tests.
To get the most out of either option, · Determine when you are planning to take the ACT or SAT test, and sign up for
the test you want at a location near you. o https://collegereadiness.collegeboard.org/sat/register/online-
registration-help o https://www.act.org/content/act/en/products-and-services/the-
act/registration-information.html · Visit http://www.k12courses.com for more information about the two options above. You will find the programs listed under the “Subject” tab. · Select a testing for either ACT or SAT test prep that matches up with the test you have signed up to take. · You have the option to purchase the program from that website, or call the toll-free number listed for more information. Not everyone wants to study for these tests on their own, especially if they are try-ing to get the highest score possible. Best of luck on testing day!

ATTENTION KEYSTONE STUDENTS:
Keep your eyes open for more infor-mation on our 1st annual Keystone’s Got Talent competition coming this April/May. All Middle School and High School students are invited to participate along with some of your fellow Keystone staff! Prizes will be awarded to the top win-ners. Rules and regulations will be ap-plied.
Zyna is a hard working student that has a great moti-vation for learning. She has many hobbies which in-clude sports, Tae- Kwon- Do, music, the clarinet, writing and graphic design. From inside out, she loves volunteering and helping others every day. Even though her father passed away in September of 2015, she exemplified persistence and determination in continuing her education and inspiring others that you can go on even if you lost a loved one. She would like to spread a message to all of her fellow school-mates that you can be anything as long as you have great strength and confidence in yourself. The scientists of to-
day think deeply in-
stead of clearly. One
must be sane to think
clearly, but one can
think deeply and be
quite insane.

Using the Dynamic Course Scheduler
The Dynamic Course Schedule is a tool you can use to determine how much work you need to accomplish in your courses on a weekly basis. The Dynamic Course Schedule creates a road map for you and will show you how to get from the beginning to the end of your courses and, more importantly, how to stay on track with your goals.
1. Enter the course for which you want to create a schedule. We will be using Algebra 1 as an example.
On the Left Navigation Menu, select your Teacher’s Office. In this example, you would select Miss Kasa’s Office.
Scroll down to the teacher’s Class Information, and click on the Schedule tab (pictured below).
Using the dropdown menus, select your Start Date and your anticipated End Date for the
course. When you have selected the dates, press Submit.
You will now be able to see a schedule that reflects the date rage selected.
