The Asia-Pacific region has the potential to achieve a developmental transformationthat will serve as a global model on the cooperative use of innovative technologies
for common good.

Despite high and enduringeconomic growth and significant
progress in terms of povertyeradication, absolute poverty
persists in the Asia-Pacific regionthe poor are more vulnerable andsuffer the worst disaster impacts.

Ministers and the heads of the space communityencourage members and associate members of ESCAPto work together closely and develop appropriate jointprogrammes and projects that are aligned with thepriority themes, goals, targets and actions of the Plan ofAction.
Cooperation among members and associatemembers of ESCAP, United Nations agencies, internationaland regional organizations, the private sector andother relevant stakeholders is encouraged, to supportthe implementation of the Plan of Action and to contributeto a “Space2030” agenda, to be formulated by theCommittee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space.
Members and associate members of ESCAP areencouraged to work together and to mainstream theuse of space technology and geospatial informationapplications, where possible, across the SustainableDevelopment Goals, as national and regional champions,and in multiple capacities across relevant fora.

The Plan of Action isdesigned to provide both
a consolidated needsassessment for countriesin the region that wish to
utilize space applications forsustainable development,and a guide for partners
that wish to support thosecountries in meeting the
needs.
A phased review has beensuggested over three,
four-year periods.
Includes activities at the international,regional and national levels.
Identifies the means and modes ofimplementation.
Promotes partnerships and collaborationbetween member States, United Nationsagencies, intergovernmental mechanisms,and international and technicalorganizations.
