Learning Theme overview During this theme, we will describe the physical and human features of China and Japan and understand how the mix of these features helps to explain its character. We will draw out similaries and differences between these places and begin to understand links between them. Key quesons will be asked to help recognise and describe human processes and environmental issues. Children will be able to confidently use a full range of skills and different kinds of maps and resources to undertake independent invesgaons. To engage children in their learning we started our theme with a carousel of Eastern Delights! Children experienced a variety of inspiraonal acvies throughout a theme day including: origami, maral arts and Manga cartoon design. They finished the day with a fun chopsck team game! WE ARE STUDYING THE NOVEL, KENSUKES KINGDOM. Washed up on an island in the Pacific Ocean, Michael struggles to survive on his own. With no food and no water, he curls up to die. When he wakes, there is a plate beside him of fish, of fruit, and a bowl of fresh water. He is not alone

Learning Theme overview

During this theme, we will describe the physical

Sensational Start!

To engage children in their learning we started our theme with a

FICTION: Short Adventure Story (Purpose: Write

to entertain)

GRAMMAR & PUNCTUATION:

Use of the passive to affect the presentation of

information in a sentence

Use a combination of multi-clause and single clause

Use the semi-colon & colon to mark

use semi-colons for complicated lists

Know how hyphens can be used to

Year 6 pupils will be designing a bridge to withstand a tsunami:

GEOGRAPHY– OVERSEAS LOCALITY

Focusing on the countries of China and Japan, children will:

understand geographical similarities and differences through the study of human

and physical geography of a region.

describe and understand key aspects of physical geography, including: climate zones, biomes and

vegetation belts, rivers, mountains, volcanoes and earthquakes.

describe and understand key aspects of human geography, including: types of settlement and

land use, economic activity including trade links, and the distribution of natural resources

including energy, food, minerals and water.

use maps, atlases, globes and digital/computer mapping to locate countries and describe

features studied.

COMPUTING

Linking to technology in China, children will

be beginning to create 3D games:

To know different solutions exist for

the same problem.

MATHS

During maths we will be learning to master the following objectives: use common factors to simplify fractions; use common multiples to express fractions in the

same denomination compare and order fractions, including fractions > 1 generate and describe linear number sequences (with fractions) add and subtract fractions with different denominators and mixed numbers, using the concept

of equivalent fractions multiply simple pairs of proper fractions, writing the answer in its simplest form solve problems involving the relative sizes of two quantities where missing values can be found

by using integer multiplication and division facts solve problems involving similar shapes where the scale factor is known or can be found solve problems involving unequal sharing using knowledge of fractions and multiples

SCIENCE

Animals Including Humans

SPANISH "Mi pasatiempo" (My free time)

Explain what they do in their free time, including revising the days of the week and time. Use the near future tense to say what they and others are going to do alongside future tense

peoples opinions with justifications.

ENGLISH

NON -FICTION: Persuasive text to encourage people to follow a

PEEWEES - Explaining Meaning
