Dear Colleagues,
This is to bring to your kind attention that 55th Annual Convention ofChemists 2018, the yearly event of the Indian Chemical Society, is beingorganized on December 28–30 and the Department of Chemistry, G. B.College, Naugachia (T. M. Bhagalpur University, Bhagalpur), Bhagalpur,Bihar has kindly agreed to host the Convention. The programme wouldconsist of scientific sessions that will include several Endowment andInvited Lectures, presentation of contributory papers, posters, and alsostudents’ competition. The Society intends particularly to encourage thebudding young chemists of our country by organizing special award ses-sions to accommodate the contributions of the young chemists. We be-lieve that the Convention would provide an effective platform for exchangeof thoughts among the participating chemists which would generate newerideas and open up new fields of research.
We earnestly hope that chemists from our country will participate inthis Convention to make it a grand success.

CALL FOR PAPERSA soft copy of Abstract (100-150 words; diagrams, 5 cm × 4 cm) along with the dulyfilled in Form-A should reach the Honorary Secretary, Indian Chemical Society, 92,Acharya Prafulla Chandra Road, Kolkata-700 009, within October 31, 2018 [email protected]. Abstracts received after the aforesaid date will not be con-sidered. Abstracts should accompany Form-A along with a charge of Rs. 300 foreach of the authors who are not Fellows in good-standing of the Society/Members ofthe Institution of Chemists (India). The aforesaid paper submission fees are to be sentby CTS DD/Multicity CTS Cheque in favour of Indian Chemical Society, A/c Conven-tion of Chemists Fund payable at Kolkata. Multicity CTS Cheques on any Bank atKolkata will also be accepted. Author’s name will be deleted from the Abstract, ifsuch charge is not received along with the Abstract and no future correspon-dence will be made to the authors in this regard.While sending the abstract (Oral/Poster), the author should indicate the Section(Inorganic/Physical/Organic and Biochemistry/Analytical and Environmental/Industrialand Applied Chemistry). The name(s) and address(es) should follow the title of theAbstract. The Principal author should be marked with an asterisk(*) and the author whowould be presenting the paper should be underlined. Not more than two papers will beaccepted from any author in single or joint authorship among all the sections com-bined.Poster Specification : 1 m × 1 m space would be provided for each poster.The Scientists-in-Charge will inform the authors regarding the acceptance of theAbstract (Oral/Poster) or otherwise of their contribution. If the intimation is not receivedwithin the deadline, the author may directly contact the Honorary Secretary, IndianChemical Society for information.Under no circumstances, the Abstracts should be sent to the Scientists-in-Chargedirectly. B. College, Naugachiahas been assiduously shaping the socio academic needs of the youth right from its dayof foundation in 1957, in face of poverty ridden, food ravaged agro based populace.This region of Bihar, situated on the confluence of the Ganga and the Kosi, has aunique scenic beauty carved by green fields, tributaries, Mango, Leechi and Bananaorchards. Thanks to the toiling farmers of this region that Leechi and Mango havebeen gratifying the taste of the people around the globe while all the time Naugachiabanana is transported to the cities of West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh and Delhi. Four andhalf km long Vikramshila Setu over the Ganges like Naugachia and Bhagalpur withsmall scope of trade. Needless to say that water is a major factor for both the growthand devastation. This small town of Bihar is academically nourished by four colleges.ABOUT BHAGALPUR CITYBhagalpur City has a glorious past as well as shining present. Vikrmashila was one ofthe two most important centres of learning in India during the Pala Empire along withNalanda. Vikramshila is located at about 50 km east of Bhagalpur. Vikramshila wasestablished by king Dharmapala (783 to 820) to maintain the quality of scholarship.Vikramashila, the premier University of the era, was destroyed by Bakhtiyar Khilji alongwith the other major centres of Buddhism in India. Vikramshila was a centre of Tantricpreceptors. The stupas built for the purpose of worship is a brick structure in the centreof the square monastery. The Vikramashila site is the place for Vikramshila mahotsavwhich is held annually. There has been inflow of the sacred Ganges river.Silk IndustryBhagalpur situated on the bank of the Ganges is known as the silk city owing to its vastscope of silk export and economy of the town depends on the silk woven world classsarees.

In ancient times, Champa in Bhagalpur was the kingdom of Danvir Karna as per refer-ences from the Mahabharata. The place known as Anga Kshetra was famous for trade,wealth and religion. Kobi Guru Rabindranath Tagore, Nobel laureate spent some partof his precious time in Tilha Kothi Bhagalpur now known as Rabindra Bhavan where hepenned some portion of his famous book ‘Gitanjali’. Birth anniversary of poetRabindranathTagore is celebrated by Bangla Department of T.M. Bhagalpur Universityand Bihar Bengali Samiti. The silk city had a deep connection with late Sarat ChandraChattopadhyay, the great Bangla novelist. He had come in 1884 to stay at his mater-nal uncle’s house in Bhagalpur where he began his early education at Durga CharanBalak Vidyalya. Sarat Chandra went on to pen famous Bengali novels like Devdas,Srikant and Pather Dabi.DeogharAn important pilgrim spot of the state, Deoghar is one of the Dwadash Jyotirlinga ofLord Shiva, l10 km away from Bhagalpur in the Jharkhand state which can be reachedby a pilgrim within three hours by bus or private taxi.Mandar ParvatMandar Parvat known as Mandar Hill, a great place of pilgrimage is situated in Banka45 km south from Bhagalpur District Head quarter. On the top of the hill, a Hindu anda Jain temple co-exists. The mountain in Hindu mythology known as Mandrachal Parbatas per references from the Puranas and the Mahabharata. Adjacent to this hill, a pondcalled ‘papa-harani’ exists.Jain TempleBhagalpur is a pilgrim for Jains’. Many Jain devotees from several countries come andoffer their prayer in Vasupujya temple at Nathnagar.
