GeneralStokeCollegeisasmall,independentdayandboardingschoolforchildrenaged4-18.Situatedin25acresofhistoricparklandinaruralsetting,theschoolisanidyllicenvironment,whichoffersourpupilsawonderfulstartinlife.Weprovideanexceptionallearningenvironmentwhereemphasisisplacedonoutstandingteachingandtheindividualprogressofallchildren.TheCollegeisahappy,welcomingandinclusiveschool.Ournurturingapproachplacestheutmostimportanceoneachchildachievingtheirfullpotential.
AsrepresentativesoftheCollege,allstaffarerequiredtodemonstrateourcorevaluesineverythingtheydoandtostriveatalltimestoreflectourcommitmenttocourtesy,efficiencyandcontinuousimprovement.
WehavethecompleterangeofpupilabilitiesatStoke,andastrongreputationforsupportingthosewithspecificlearningdifficulties.Childrenwhoreceivededicatedlearningsupportarefullyintegratedintothemainstream,day-to-daylifeoftheschool.
ThePersonWearelookingforagoodhonoursgraduatewhoisanexcellentclassroomteacherwithapassionfortheirsubject,andcapableofhelpingpupilstoachievetheirverybest.Thisisa0.6FTEtimetable(Mondays,WednesdaysandFridays).
Theabilitytoteachwithflairandimaginationacrossthe11–16agerangeisessential.ApplicantsshouldhavesomeexperienceoftheuseofICTintheteachingandlearningenvironment.
ThePostThepostholderischargedwiththedeliveryofGeography,HistoryandEnglishclassesinKeyStage3andGeographyinYear10.
Responsibilitiesincludethefollowing:
• Preparationandplanningoflessonsinaccordancewithschoolpolicy;• Assessing,recordingandreportingonthedevelopment,progressand
attainmentofpupilsinlinewithschoolpolicy;• Communicatingandconsultingwiththeparentsofpupils;• Demonstratingarangeofteachingmethodsandkeepingabreastof
developmentsinthesubjectarea,andemployingarangeofteachingresources;• Recognitionofthespecificneedsofeachpupilandadaptingteachingmethods
totheneedsofpupils;• Establishingastructuredlearningenvironmentconducivetolearningandwhere
pupilsknowthathighstandardsarealwaysrequired;• Providingguidanceandadvicetopupilsoneducationalandsocialmatters;• Motivatingpupilstowanttolearn,andestablishingarapportwiththem
conducivetolearning;• Providingallpupilswithappropriatechallenges;• Ensuringthatworkissetforclasseswhenabsentfromschool;• Attendingstaffmeetings,andschoolordepartmentalINSET.Seeking
opportunitiesforprofessionaldevelopmentthroughINSET,andthroughparticipationintheschool’sappraisalscheme;
• Promotinghighstandardsofworkandbehaviourinsideandoutsidetheclassroom;

TheAppointment
Allapplicantsmustcompleteourstandardapplicationform.AstatementofthepersonalqualitiesandexperiencethatapplicantsbelieveisrelevanttotheirsuitabilityforthepostandhowtheymeetthepersonspecificationisrequiredinSection7ofthe
form.Inadditiontoacandidate’sabilitytoperformthedutiesofthepost,theinterviewprocesswillalsoexploreissuesrelatingtosafeguardingandpromotingthewelfareofchildren.CandidatesforinterviewwillhavetheopportunitytomeetthemembersofstaffandhaveatouroftheCollege.
Onerefereeshouldbetheapplicant’scurrentormostrecentemployer.Pleasenotethatreferenceswillnotbeacceptedfromrelativesorfrompeoplewritingsolelyinthecapacityofafriend.TheSchoolwillseekreferencesfromshort-listedcandidates,andmayapproachpreviousemployersforinformationtoverifyparticularexperienceorqualifications,beforeinterview.Whereanapplicantiscurrentlyworkingwithchildren,thecurrentemployerwillbeaskedaboutdisciplinaryoffencesrelatingtochildrenandwhethertheapplicanthasbeenthesubjectofanychildprotectionconcernsandifso,theoutcomeofanyenquiryordisciplinaryprocedure.Whereanapplicantisnotcurrentlyworkingwithchildrenbuthasdonesointhepast,thatpreviousemployerwillbeaskedaboutthoseissues.
TheappointmentwillbesubjecttosatisfactoryoutcomeofaDBSenhanceddisclosure.
Allcandidatesinvitedtointerviewmustbringdocumentsconfirminganyeducationalandprofessionalqualificationsreferredtointheirapplicationform.Whereoriginalsorcertifiedcopiesarenotavailableforthesuccessfulcandidate,writtenconfirmationoftherelevantqualificationsmustbeobtainedfromtheawardingbody.
Wherethesuccessfulcandidatehasworkedorbeenresidentoverseasinthepastfiveyears,theschoolwillcarryoutsuchchecksandconfirmationsasmayberequiredinaccordancewithstatutoryguidelines.Ifrelevant,theSchoolwillverifytherightofforeignnationalstoworkintheUK.
Allcandidatesinvitedtointerviewmustalsobringwiththem:
• Acurrentdrivinglicenceincludingaphotographorpassportorfullbirthcertificate
• Autilitybillorstatementshowingtheirnameandhomeaddress• Whereappropriate,anydocumentationevidencingachangeofname• AcademicandprofessionalqualificationcertificatesfromGCSElevelupwards.
