SIGHTSEEING IN KUALA LUMPUR

To get the best out of your trip and to make it a memorable one, we have compiled some of the top must visit hotspots in the city.

PETRONAS TWIN TOWERS At the heart of the city, a must visit landmark is the iconic Petronas Twin Towers, which stands as one of the world's tallest buildings. At this skyscraper, you can opt to cross the sky-bridge on the 41st floor where you can enjoy a bird’s-eye view of the city. At the bottom, you can enjoy great shopping at Suria KLCC or just enjoy a day in the sun at KLCC Park.

KL TOWER KL Tower Standing at 421 meters tall, the KL Tower is built on top of Bukit Nanas and it's one of the world's tallest towers. On top of the tower, you can get a 360 degree view of the city at the observation deck and at the revolving restaurant. At the foot of the tower, you will find the Bukit Nanas Forest Reserve which is one of the last surviving patches of rainforest in the heart of the city.

BATU CAVES Batu Caves is a limestone hill with a series of caves and cave temples. The massive cave temple features Hindu idols and statues erected inside the main cave and around it. It is believed that the limestone forming Batu Caves is 400 million years old. However, be prepared to scale 272 steps to access the caves.

MERDEKA SQUARE/INDEPENDENCE SQUARE This historical landmark is the most popular tourist spot in Kuala Lumpur. Merdeka Square, which literally means Independence Square, was the venue where the Union Jack Flag was lowered, and replaced with the Malayan flag. Across the Square, the Sultan Abdul Samad building can be easily recognised from its copper dome clock tower. It was designed and built by A.C. Norman using a Moorish architecture style.

CENTRAL MARKET The focus for the city’s artistic community, Central Market is a KL cultural landmark, just a short walk away from Petaling Street. Also called Pasar Seni, it was built in 1928 and used to be a simple wet market, until the early 1980s when it was revamped into a handicrafts outlet. In similar vein to New York’s SoHo flea market – the merchandise here is cheap and comprises traditional goods such as batik, embroidery carvings, souvenirs, and sculptures.

PETALING STREET Known as Kuala Lumpur's China Town, the colourful Petaling Street is a well-known area for bargain hunters. Deeply immersed in the oriental culture, heritage and history, Petaling Street's night market offers all kinds of goods at relatively low prices. Food is also plentiful with many scrumptious varieties to choose from; some of the restaurants here have been in business for generations. Locals flock to Petaling Street primarily for bargain accessories and great Chinese food.

LITTLE INDIA

Brickfields is Malaysia’s official Little India and was recently transformed into a wide street with Indian stores and restaurants run by the country’s Indian community.

The shops here sell everything from traditional Indian goods such as saris, flower garlands, spices and Bollywood music, to local delicacies such as vadai, thosai and more. Since its transformation, Little India Brickfields has turned into one of KL’s trademark tourist hotspots not only because of the wares found here but for its proximity to KL Sentral station.

BINTANG WALK

Shopaholics would find Bintang Walk a shopping paradise. Surrounded by the city's most popular shopping malls, Bintang Walk is Kuala Lumpur's prime shopping district with plenty of international brands and eateries.

The bronze sculpture depicts a group of seven soldiers in various poses, each denoting one of seven qualities: courage, leadership, sacrifice, strength, suffering, unity and vigilance.

KL BIRD PARK Kuala Lumpur Bird Park is the showpiece of the renowned 60-ha Lake Gardens. The park is home to more than 3,000 birds from 200 species all over the world. The free-flight, walk-in aviary has over 60 species of local and foreign birds, including the Indian blue peacock, with its colourful five-foot train, and the crowned pigeon, the largest pigeon species in the world.
