Enter the haggisIt may be dark and cold outside, but Burns Night is a great excuse for a party in an otherwise gloomy month. Invite friends over for supper to toast the life of poet Robert Burns. Or, organise a community event withevent with a lively band to dance away the blues. You could even hold a concert of traditional Scottish music. Raise money by asking your guests to pay an entrance fee. Light up a lantern Spread peace and happiness by celebrating Chinese New Year. Offer to

clean houses for donations, sweeping away misfortune and bringing good luck for the year ahead. Host a party and ask guests to dress in red, the traditional colour of China. Or organise a fireworks night. You could even arrange a lantern-making workshop (using environmentally friendly materials of course) and then, once finished, watch your lanterns gently light up the night sky.

Let’s go fly a kiteTake part in the Hindu festival of Vasant Panchami and honours Saraswati, the goddess of knowledge, music and art. Wear yellow as a sign of prosperity and organise a

traditional kite festival. Why not hold a kite-making class and competition to see how many kites can you get up at once? How long can you keep your kite up for?

Calendar sales Make your very own 2012 calendar to sell it to friends, families and colleagues. Think of a theme and get creative. Don’t forget to add our ‘in aid of UNICEF’ logo so that everyone knows who you are supporting.
